Root [ROM] GummyJAR 2.5 - 12/28/10

So I'm trying this, coming from TranQ 3.6 and it's been great so far.

My only gripe though, is having to use LPP to make my homescreen run smooth (no matter what ROM I use).

How come ROMs makers don't try and adapt the memory usage settings like LPP does?

I wish! Unfortunately the dev said that they will not be including it as it is not AOSP (and it actually integrates into framework.jar). That said, I am working on making that request a reality. Mostly self-serving cause I like the predictive dialer as well. Stay tuned... :D

Just wanted to note that the initial dialer is fine, but when you make a call it still defaults to the original dialer (which has no haptic feedback in it.) E.G. Make a phone call its fine, but when you are prompted to press 1 for this and two for that, it goes back to the original dialer released with this ROM which has no haptic feedback. Perhaps you can address it with the dev for a future update/release.

Again, thanks very much. I'm happy to have haptic feedback when making a call!!

That is because the initial dialer is contained in the Contacts.apk file and the "secondary" dialer is contained in the Phone.apk file (go figure). I'll see what I can do... :)

Have you tried 'Go Launcher'? I've been running GL on all my ROM's and it flies.

Well, I finally made the plunge and rooted my DX with Z4Root - I had resisted this for several months since I was concerned about the possibility of bricking my new toy, but after reading this thread and especially how well GJ was working for Outlaw71 and others I decided to try it (it actually wasn't that bad to "Git R Done"!).

I followed the instructions per RoOolers Guide (big thanks to him) and made backups, moved my contacts to Gmail, and even installed GJ. I flashed back to the pre-ROM state to have experience with doing this in case it becomes necessary - no problem there either.

My questions to all in this thread are regarding some things I noticed in GJ:

1. Can the stock launcher have more screens added to it so I can get back to seven as per stock without adding an app (LPP), or can I resize the icons to fit more on a home screen? If not, what apps are available to accomplish these?

2. I'd like to be able to keep my list of recent calls in the dialer app (I use this as a shortcut to finding recent numbers a lot). How can I copy this file to my SD card and then copy back after I reflash back to GJ? Not sure what the file is or where its located... Also the same thing with my favorites list in the dialer.

Sorry if these have been answered elsewhere - I tried to search but didn't find anything specific to these questions. Today was my first experience with root/ROMs so I am a total Newbe at this...

Thanks in advance for all ideas/answers/suggestions:D

No, but there are lots of home replacement apps that work well. My favorite is LauncherPro:

You can use Call Logs Backup and Restore:

I use SMS Backup and Restore by the same guy, works great.

Thanks Binary Visions for your post above.

I've been doing some further searching - will running a theme like Dark Android or Blue Droid for GummyJAR 2.5 work better as a launcher? From the screenshots posted it looks like there are 5 instead of 4 icons per row.

How tough is it to install a theme? Is it the same procedure as installing a ROM via Bootstrap?

Thanks all!

Anyone have the MMS.apk by chance????

I need to reinstall it..... Some help would be greatly appreciated, thanks...

Installing a theme isn't the same as installing a new launcher. The 4/5 icon rows are customizations in the launcher, not in the theme.

Pretty much the same. Any theme will have instructions on how to install it and what it's compatible with.

I posted it in this thread:

What's so special about it? How does it compare to LPP?

I've had some phone problems the past two days. Dunno if its GJ or a network issue or a coincidence.

Basically I've dropped calls in areas where I normally dont, and have had problems hearing people on the other end, (they said they could hear me).

Also bluetooth dialing issues. Anyone else having these problems? Did not have these issue with ApeX.

Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to get a clock removal script made for this rom for the clock in the notification area? Fabs works but after I install it it messes up the dialer causing the phone to reboot......

I love GO Launcher mainly because of the APP drawer. Check out the thread on it here The screens are so easily customized. IF you don't like where a screen is instead of moving every widget and icon over one-by-one you just go to the screen preview and drag and drop it where you want. bam. so fast. Up to 30 screens. Changing an apps icon on the homescreen is so easy too. Long press on the icon and you can swap the image it uses. Hands down best launcher I've used and I had to give up LPP for it. And I'm cheap so it's hard for me not to use something i've paid for lol.

As for your issues I don't use BT and I haven't yet dropped a call.

Thanks for fixing the lockscreen issue, but now my slide to lock is missing, any idea what is going on. list of mods: dx bootstrap, clockwork, z4 root, ADW EX launcher,..

Thanks brother. I installed it earlier today and just trying to learn the ropes with it a bit. Thanks again man!

Hey all, anyone know how I can get the white original Droid X keyboard on here? I've tried a bunch of things but can't get it to work. Thanks!

hey i know it was mentioned way earlier in this post but never saw anything more about it...

anyway to get the stock text messaging look? i think its the blur version...it looks cooler than the one included with this ROM.

I'm guessing you can just take the messaging.apk file from a ROM that you know has the blur version and replace it over the existing apk in your system/app folder. You MAY have to get the corresponding system/lib file as well, but I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm this?

P.S. I got the old white DX keyboard up and running.

Sorry I didn't get back to you, happy to see you're trying it though. For me it's just sooo easy to customize it. Like Aggie said you can swap entire screens around if you don't like where they are. If you long press on an app in the app drawer little 'X's' pop up on all the other apps and you can delete them from there. I love that when you go into the app drawer you can hit 'running' and find out exactly what is going on in your phone at that moment.

A couple of other things I really dig are the screen jestures. I have mine set so that when I swipe my finger up on the screen all of my home screens appear, then I can just click on which ever one I want to go to instead of swiping through all of my home screens to get to it. If I swipe down on the screen it toggles the status bar on or off. On LauncherPro I just had it turned off because I like the look of my home screens without it. But sometimes it's useful, so now I can just swipe my finger down and there it is.

Freakin sweet!

Installed and although exchange works for me (Exchange 2007), my exchange acct on GummyJar requires a password. I didn't need that for any other rom.

Is there a fix for the duplicate holidays and events in all my calendars? I have two of every entry.

EDIT: Never mind. Installing GJ corrupted my holidays. Fixed that.

Requiring bogus Exchange security (9 char strong password) is BS tho and a deal breaker for me. Who wants to enter a password every time you wake up your phone. To enter exchange email is one thing, but not for the phone.

Bump! I also tried to use FAB's zip and it put me in permanent Bootloop. Sure would appreciate a zip specifically for GummyJar.

You guys take a look at this? xUltimate
I'm not exactly sure if it'll work with the DX so you may want to read up and/or ask. This is how you would go about using it: (thanks to vbhokiefan over at droidforums.net)

Step 1: Download xultimate (thanks to xeudoxus for this program)

Step 2: Extract it to C:\xultimate

Step 3: Make sure phone is not mounted and usb debugging is turned on

Step 4: Now open Main.exe for xultimate (you should have a white screen with options like 1 2 and so on right)

Step 5: Choose Option 1 (if asked do you want to delete files in origi_app say YES)

Step 6: Choose Option 2 (if asked do you want to delete files in origin_frame say YES)

Step 7: Choose Option 15 (advanced menu)

Step 8: Choose Option 3 (ONLY do this once, if you already did it once then thats it per this rom/phone - skip to step 10)

Step 9: Choose Option 15 (advance menu)

Step 10 Choose Option 5 (remove clock)

Step 11: Transfer the changes to your phone say YES

Step 12: Say Yes to reboot

Step 13: Reboot might take a bit because it is rehashing and checking the folders but yes that is it, it should be gone when you get back in
