Root [ROM] ICS Elite Aeneas Build

uninstall the update. I downloaded holo from a non market site..I think its bootleg. didn't really think to check it.

Derp, I should've made it clearer.
It won't allow me to update to the latest version, I meant to say. From what I can tell that's it a system/app.
If I delete it-upon installing a temporary launcher- and download it again, will I have any problems?
I also see that there's Launcher2 in the System/app as well.
Strange, Titanium Bu says that Launcher2 is Holo Launcher...
I made backups for both, deleted and am now rebooting and going to Google Play to install a fresh copy of Holo.
It worked!

no installing another launcher like adw won't result in app error as it won't install to system. be sure to install it before removing holo. and regardless of cause of issue. I think my holo is bad. so I'm going with store version.

I don't want to leave this hanging in limbo. I'll do something on it. I'll need time. It'll depend on how I'm feeling. It's difficult to sit at PC as of late for me. My uppermost vertebrae in neck gets out of whack and locks up on me. And other things set it off also. So give me some time and I'll make this right. I would hate to leave it undone and on someone else's shoulders.

Alright, I trust and believe in your word. :] Feel better man hope it gets fixed!

Flashed this earlier, it runs great! The only issue I have is that I can't send mms messages, but that was an issue on the last rom too so it may be in my end. Thank you for the work you put in, I hope your back starts feeling better!

I just wanted to confirm that I too am getting the USB error. I must say though, that everything else is kick ass. I did however do a restore to my previous setup due to the fact i use mass storage a lot. I'm not experienced in writing code but I'll be a tester! :p

I still can't get this to work. As soon as I reinstall my app via Titanium Backup I reboot it and it gets dtuck in the VM boot loop. I even made sure to not install any of my root apps this time too! Just my games, joke apps, and info stuff along with social apps. Nothing that goes in the system.

Mine stayed in boot loop for a good while. but I left it alone and it booted fine. my guess is because cache and dalvik are wiped?

ktb the link for the systemui.apk is broken. I was all like "Epic! I can use this sick ROM now!" But no, I was denied. I'm very heartbroken. :(

Interesting. I just tried downloading it and it worked fine. If you're going to manually copy this to /system/app/, it would probably be a good idea to reboot into CWM and clear dalvik cache afterwards (you would need to reboot anyway). Remember to set the correct permissions: rw-r--r--

Correction: That link WAS broken. Sorry.

SystemUI.apk

forgive me but how would I manually copy? like through terminal emulator and the basic commands? I dunno much about linux based command line

CORRECTION: Nevermind lol. You mean to copy it over the current systemui in the zip of the ROM right? but how would I set the permissions? I don't currently have the rom flashed.

Okay I got it installed with the proper permissions but my touch screen is not responding properly. Certain areas only work some of the time. particularly the bottom where the launcher and spacebar are. but I've seen it else where.

Right after i posted this I checked back on my phone because I was going to do a restore until this was resolved. but it seems fine now. i'm going to do a reboot and see if it is still working right.

How I put the systemui.apk in:
Backup, wipe/formats, flash current ICS Elite ROM, pulled up root browser, moved new systemui.apk to system/apps, set rw-r-r permissions, shutdown, wipe dalvik, reboot.

correct me if I'm wrong in my procedure.

I assumed you would install Curtis' ROM and then copy SystemUI.apk to /system/app/ using a root file manager (such as Root Explorer or ES File Explorer).

You could also have used terminal commands or before installing the ROM just have opened the CWM-flashable ZIP for the ROM (using WinRAR, 7-Zip [compression level set to Store or no compression] or the archive manager which comes with Ubuntu) and added SystemUI.apk to /system/app/ (just open the ZIP file, navigate to that folder and drag the file into the opened archive window, remember to set the compression level as suggested earlier if using WinRAR or 7-Zip), replacing the one that would get installed with the ROM. Then just install the updated ROM ZIP in CWM as usual. The updater-script in the ZIP file takes care of setting the correct permissions in that case.

I'm not familiar with the touch screen issue you described, but you should reboot immediately after replacing the SystemUI.apk. Generally when replacing system apps such as this one, I recommend first copying the APK to /system and setting the permissions for the APK there, then moving/copying it from /system to /system/app or /system/framework (for framework-res.apk) overwriting the version that is currently being used. Then reboot. Rebooting into CWM and wiping dalvik cache sometimes helps, sometimes it's unnecessary.

The procedure you described sounds alright. Let me know whether or not everything works OK. Until now, I think it has only been tested on my phone.

Everything is working great. I do have one question. I previously had installed giantpune's kernel. This rom reset the kernel config. Could I simply reflash the kernel zip over this one? Thanks a bunch to you and Curtis. Yes that's exactly how I moved the systemui.apk... To the letter. And the problem resolved itself a few minutes later. Works fine.

Yes, you can reflash GP's custom kernel boot image over this one. You should prob use an app to control the clock speed (such as setCPU or something else) otherwise your CPU will be set to ondemand and run at 1600 most of the time. I've had decent results (speed/stability/battery life) with SetCPU using the smartassV2 governor and 1400 max. Play around with it and see what works for you.

I've always used SetCPU. I used to run 1600max with smartassv2. but when I played a few games my cpu hit 120 plus so.... I'll scale it down to 1400 and see if I have any performance drops. Probably not though. So far I'm able to confirm that everything is working great so far. Thanks a bunch. Maybe you should consider putting it into the ROM?

Just a follow up. The only "issues" i'm seeing are the font is a bit small (I can still read it fine), the launcher (holo launcher?) seems as though it is barebones with only 1 screen change effect etc., and lastly when downloading icon in the notification bar changes size with the animation. it gets wider and smaller etc.

I do like the font and the launcher's fine, just wondering why it only has the one effect for screen/drawer transitions. The download icon is probably just some simple fix. If i got a crash course from somewhere i'd try and help with these things. I'd really love to help.

All this being said there aren't any actual problems of any kind. MMS sends fine, mass storage works, GP's boot image is fine. Thanks a bunch guys!

I'm going to leave this ROM to the community as a whole. I'm no longer able to work on it. I have four bad discs in my neck,c1 through c4 that bother me frequently. I hope others would take up support. I'm just not able to. Sorry everyone.
