Root [ROM][ICS] Paranoid Android Ver1.6 Beta from source (31JUL2013)

So far so good with the 7/31 release. I was overclocking the earlier releases to get nova to run pretty smooth, but this one is buttery smooth on the stock mhz. Too early to tell about battery life.

I've had no slowdowns or force closes at all. I don't play any intense games but I'll probably load some to generate some load on the system. This for me has been the most stable and responsive release. No text jumble as of yet either. Will report more later on. Keep on keepin on Bsydz!!! Great work bud!!!

So far the 7/31 build seems pretty snappy, the battery drains faster than the 7/24 rom, no jumbled text as of yet, however, when I got up this morning the phone went into roaming and locked up. so may have just been an issue with the phone having locked up cause I left stuff running (it has happened before) I have only seen the roaming the one time so far, however unlike the 7/24 rom which would reconnect right away it remained roaming(no signal) till I toggled airplane mode. other than that it has been an amazing rom

I'm back. Been using revamp for a while, but saw the excitement here and had to give it a try. So far I'm impressed!!!!

Just trying to catch up, and saw a few questions that other people may be wondering about.

I have reloaded the latest PA tester and it has been working like a charm, I dig it too much to not enjoy having it on my phone. One thing I have noticed is random headphone disconnections or it might be the music app I am now using (WinAmp Pro). I will try another one and see if I get better results. I would use the stock music player which is sweet but I cannot get into the white theme of it. I would like to see that app go black.

Other than that everything seems to work just fine. The heptic feedback tends to hiccup and go off base (meaning if you hit a single letter it adds three random letters) when you are typing too fast which makes texting a chore but if I slow down it seems to work fine.

Kudos though! PA is functioning significantly better than the first release I loaded. :D
Thanks for the feedback.

If you go in to apollo settings you can get themes from the play store, almost any color scheme you could imagine.

I see the lag in the haptic also, I just keep typing when it lags and it seems to catch up. I have gotten three words ahead and it caught back up, I haven't tested it yet but turning off haptic should fix the issue.
I installed the July 24th tester yesterday along with the Symlinked Gapps and here's what I have to report...

First things first, this is noticeably quicker than any previous build/tester I have installed. HOWEVER, with all the previous versions I had been using the tablet UI instead of the phone UI. After installing this tester I also flashed the "BSydz-PA-Stock-CM9-Mode-Changer.zip" that can be found in the OP. So, that being said, I don't know if this tester actually IS quicker or if my lag problems in the past had been related to using the tablet mode.

With the previous testers (again, in Tablet UI mode) there was often a lag between when I would press an icon and when it would actually register the press and then open. This doesn't seem to be an issue at all here with this build. There is still quite a bit of lag (3 to 5 seconds) from when I exit an app to when the home screen icons and widgets reappear. This is not a major problem for me, just a minor annoyance.

The statusbar button for the Torch/Flashlight does not work at all and I've found nowhere to remove it. Not a big problem since I always keep the icon for Torch on one of my home screens. It seems that if I try to turn on the Torch with the statusbar button and then go into the app, it won't work at all. The only fix I've found is to kill the Torch app and clear data, followed by a reboot.

I've mostly been at home and on my Wi-Fi since I installed this. The Wi-Fi icon in the statusbar randomly goes grey for a few seconds as if the signal was lost, but then it switches back to blue fairly quickly.

I've not played around with the GPS yet, though I reckon I'll probably have the opportunity tomorrow depending on where work takes me for the day. I seem to be one of the lucky few who has had good results with the GPS on my MT, so I don't imagine there will be any complaints from me regarding its performance.

The garbled text seems to be back in full force, and more prominent than ever. It's rather irritating to have to close an app, reopen it, and then find my way back to what I was doing. But I'm willing to live with the irritation in return for a decent ROM.

One final thing... I have not had any of the random reboots while using Facebook that both I and cowboy44mag reported a few days ago. But the Messaging app seems to enjoy suddenly closing. It does this at completely random times, such as when I open it, when I go into a specific conversation, and sometimes when I hit the send button on a message that I was composing. No warning of any kind, just a rapid exit back out to my home screen.

I hope the feedback helps. It seems there's only a few of us stragglers hanging around and commenting these days, so if anyone needs any further details or specifics please don't hesitate to ask. I don't have the knowledge to do dev work but I'm more than happy to test and provide feedback. Thanks for keeping the MT alive and kicking!
Thanks for the feedback. The flash light works flawlessly for me on both of my phones, there is an issue with CM9, that the flashlight options are grayed out, and not accessible. I haven't found why, but I figured the flashlight toggle was worth having there, as you can access it with out having to unlock the phone, just pull down the status bar and tap the toggle. Right now I feel that it is worth the real estate to have it there even though we cant remove or modify it.

As for it not working ... Can anybody else confirm a nonworking flashlight toggle?
This may sound real dumb, but is it still okay to install mode changer with the new Jul 31 build?
The mode changer is similar to a build.prop, it is PAs way of keeping the system and app DPI settings in order. It should work across all PA ICS ROMs. That is the file that paranoid backup backs up to save your settings. That is how I made the mode changer, I put everything as phone DPI and backed it up, then renamed it to pad.prop, then made the flashable zip.

Thanks for the feedback. I haven't had any lockups, so if you run in to this again please let me know. Also if you could include install process and recovery version, that may help to identify what may be going on.

Once again thank you all for the kind words and feedback, it makes working on this a lot easier. Plus, the more stuff I get worked out in this, means things can get pushed to other ICS and JB ROMs.

my issue may be cause by the issues I had installing I am using cwm 6.0.1.9 I'm going to try wiping and trying again, noticed I'm not having any luck connecting to GPS, going to fully wipe and reinstall the rom to see if my issues persist or if maybe it was caused cause Initially I installed the rom twice cause it didn't take the first time

Edit: I reinstalled the rom, Factory reset, clear cache, clear Dalvik cache, install rom, Google now, Symlink gapps(I think the problem may have been how i installed the first time). Since the reinstall the GPS seems to be doing better (still slower than the 7/24 rom) though it is actually finding satellites now. on 7/24 it connected in 120s on this current rom it connected in 260s (tested using "GPS Status" app). I have not seen roaming again, though that only occurred when I left my phone overnight (so if it is an issue it is likely due to deep sleep if I don't see it tomorrow it was likely tied to the same issue). So far this rom has run great, very smooth

edit: the roaming issue hasn't occurred since the reinstall

I can confirm a nonworking flashlight toggle. The option for the button is there in the settings, but it is grayed out and cannot be put into the widget.

Sorry should have been more specific, the options are grayed out but I got the toggle in the status bar, by adding it to the default toggles in powerwidget in frameworks. So the toggle is there but, like before when you couldn't enable it, now the opposite is true, you can not disabled it(remove it from the status bar), but it is there.

Hope this helps.

Hey BSydz, first off I want to join many others in saying THANK YOU for all your hard work on this ROM. Unfortunately, I do not have a money tree growing in my back yard and I don't believe there's gonna be one sprouting anytime soon, therefore, I'm going to be with the Triumph for the foreseeable future and I'm so glad you're out there taking the time to work on it. I don't know what I'd do if I were still stuck with 2.2 (personally, I don't get how anyone can stand using FroYo... ick).

I'm about to update to the new release. My question is: has any progress been made toward getting video recording working? Video is probably the feature I value most, even more so than taking still photos, so I've been keeping my fingers crossed for someone to have a breakthrough & get it functioning.

Also, I just noticed in the original post that you say everything with the camera is working except video -- does this mean the front camera works now? Last I knew, only the back was operational and if you try switching to the front the phone basically has a heart attack, so I haven't dared to try switching.

Anyway, again, thanks for all your hard work. I'm going to update now and I'll do my part by reporting back how it's running. :proud:

I have edited my status bar toggles and the torch one went away. If you want it to go away, try that. You may also try reordering them, as that's the only other thing I did. My problem is I like the option and now it's gone. Am I out of luck? Thanks BSydz... this version is so snappy!!

Well, I'm having some issues this morning using GPS and Maps. I tried to start up Google Navigation which prompted me to turn on my GPS. I enabled GPS and went back to Navigation. The whole time I never received a GPS signal, gave it a good 20 minutes. So I decided to close navigation and just use the Maps app to find out where I needed to go.

When I opened Maps, it errored out stating I had no network connection which was false, as I could run a speedtest which confirmed 3G connectivity. I tried to toggle airplane mode which didn't work nor has a reboot. I've taken screenshots of said errors as I've never seen them in these 2 apps before. Other than that, I haven't had any other issues to this point.

This is the first time using Maps and Navigation on this ROM if that's any pertinent info.

ERRORS:

Front and Back camera WORK :D

so far really loving the 7/31 build, getting amazing battery life (granted I haven't been using GPS) but I go online on my phone a lot, I have gotten more than 24hours on this battery and it is still alive, 1d 0h 39m and still going saying it has 14% charge, it will probably die pretty soon but still, over a day WOW.

edit: phone lasted 1d 2h 45m on the battery

I tossed the July 31 build on last night and so far so good. I took cowboy44mag's suggestion regarding the setting for purging memory assets, as well as the back button long-press app kill. I have had no random reboots at all and lag, while still evident, is at a minimum. I'm heading out of town for a quick trip in just a few moments so when I have the chance I'll report back here on how well Maps/Navigation work for me. I've never had any of the problems with GPS locks that other people have reported here and in other forums, so I don't anticipate any issues at all.

Also, not a big deal to me, but the Torch toggle in the Status Bar is working perfectly on this build. I don't hardly use it but since I reported the issue on the July 24 build I thought I'd let you all know it seems to be sorted out now.

Been running the 7/31 build since released and it is just amazing. The battery life is great, and the rom is so snappy there is no reason to overclock anymore---> even better battery life!! GPS locks on quickly and navigation works flawlessly, and so far the issue I was having with the battery and camera is no longer occurring. The builds leading up to this have been great, but this build is the best of the best (so far). It is truly amazing!!

Last night's road trip got canceled so no testing of the GPS/Navigation... :(

Just wanted to report that I have had the Messaging app randomly closing like it was doing on the July 24 build, with seemingly no rhyme or reason, or pattern to it. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I just had the random thought that perhaps it has something to do with my settings for it, or even maybe that it's somehow related to me transferring my SMS/MMS messages with Titanium Backup. (Pro version 6.0.1, if that means anything to anybody.)

Before anyone asks... I do not restore the app itself, just the messages themselves.

Is the app force closing or just closing? In times like these I usually go to recovery and fix permissions and wipe dalvik. That fixed a lot of issues for me. Otherwise I'd say reflash the ROM.

Just simply closing at random moments. For example:

1.) Sometimes when I open the app it immediately closes
2.) Sometimes when I open a specific conversation or hit the back button to back out of a conversation, it will suddenly close
3.) Sometimes when I compose a message and click the send button the app will quickly close. The message DOES send, however.

I wouldn't have thought clearing the dalvik would have much effect because it was, of course, cleared when I installed the ROM and these problems creeped up almost immediately. I will take the time to do a fix permissions and dalvik clear. Which order do you recommend I do them in, or does it not matter?

And, of course, thank you for the suggestion. Everything else seems to be running great so far :)

Any order. I don't guarantee that it'll fix the problem but doing so has helped me several times before with similar issues. I don't believe it is the rom because I had it before and don't remember that issue coming up. If all else fails you might want to try using GO SMS or something...I use it instead of the default SMS app.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a go in a few moments.

I am having huge problems with touch latency. For example: Sometimes when I enter a phone number it takes several seconds for the touch event to execute, which usually leads to duplicate numbers as hit it repeatedly thinking it registered nothing.

I have also been getting the random Roam of Death (RoD for short) where my 3G drops to roaming and does not recover until reboot or plane mode is engaged. This is without using WiFi what-so-ever (I have not switched on WiFi at all since loading this ROM).

The phone also flashes constantly when I hold it up to my ear during a phone call. I have not had any trouble with apps or GPS not working, though I admittedly use very few apps.

Just to head you off at the pass, I did a complete wipe before installing this ROM. Including Dalvik Cache. I do not use any recovery program to reinstall apps, I recover apps the long way.

Also, I used CWM 6.0.1.2

I think leaving WIFI ON prevents the roaming issue. I get these drops a lot too. I never get the issue when I leave my WIFI ON, although it drains the hell out of the battery. I believe the RoD problem usually occurs in areas of low signal so that's why some experience it and others don't.

Also I do recommend using CWM 5.5.0.4, it is more stable than 6.0.1.2.

hi been testing this rom for a week allmost in my opinion it is very sluggish the touch screen latency is almost unusable it shuts down at least once a day it is very slow overall.

thank you this is just my input ......thank you for all the work u guys do ..
