Root [ROM][ICS] Paranoid Android Ver1.6 Beta from source (31JUL2013)

I am having huge problems with touch latency. For example: Sometimes when I enter a phone number it takes several seconds for the touch event to execute, which usually leads to duplicate numbers as hit it repeatedly thinking it registered nothing.

I've turned off the following settings which IMHO have helped greatly with touch latency:

  1. System Settings > Sound > Vibrate on touch
  2. System Settings > Language & input > Android keyboard settings > Vibrate on keypress

BSydz awesome work on the 7/31 build!

I was enjoying the snappiness of this ROM compared to the July 24 tester, but I am also having huge problems with the prox. sensor. The screen constantly flashes on and off (about once per second) while on a call. I may need to go back to an earlier ROM.

I was having the same issue with the proximity sensor but I enabled the auto brightness and that fixed my problem.

hi been testing this rom for a week allmost in my opinion it is very sluggish the touch screen latency is almost unusable it shuts down at least once a day it is very slow overall.

thank you this is just my input ......thank you for all the work u guys do ..

Try reloading the ROM and not tweeking it for a week and see what happens.

I havent been on this forum in a long time as I have moved on to the Nexus 4 running PA 3.69. My wife is still using her triumph. I previously ran cm7 on it. it ws getting sluggish so i cam back to see if there were any updates to that rom. It appears that development has stopped on that and you guys have moved on to PA. Awsome! PA is the future. you should see what they are doing with the nexus line of phones.
Anyway, i installed this rom (july 31 build) and her phone is gettting a wake lock of DEATH. android os will not sleep. after a few hours this morning her battery was dead. battery stats show that android OS has been awake for 7+ hours. any idea what might be causing this? Im about to factory reset and re flash the rom to see if that helps. any suggestions are welcomed

Well, I'm having some issues this morning using GPS and Maps. I tried to start up Google Navigation which prompted me to turn on my GPS. I enabled GPS and went back to Navigation. The whole time I never received a GPS signal, gave it a good 20 minutes. So I decided to close navigation and just use the Maps app to find out where I needed to go.

When I opened Maps, it errored out stating I had no network connection which was false, as I could run a speedtest which confirmed 3G connectivity. I tried to toggle airplane mode which didn't work nor has a reboot. I've taken screenshots of said errors as I've never seen them in these 2 apps before. Other than that, I haven't had any other issues to this point.

This is the first time using Maps and Navigation on this ROM if that's any pertinent info.

ERRORS:

I haven't seen this before, but I have seen install issues with Gapps. A few times when Maps or other apps that use maps was erroring out, it was because the google maps jar in frameworks was corrupt. I don't know why, but after looking at the file it was smaller than the one in the Gapps zip. So I copied to the correct place and everything worked again. I don't think this is the problem you are having but I have no idea what is happening. If the problem persists go to recovery and flash Gapps again. Sorry I can't be of more help, but you seem to be the only one to report this issue.
July 31st release is running great, but only problem is browser randomly closes.
How often does this happen? I have had a couple of apps do this but there has been no rhyme or reason and it is very random and also rare.
Last night's road trip got canceled so no testing of the GPS/Navigation... :(

Just wanted to report that I have had the Messaging app randomly closing like it was doing on the July 24 build, with seemingly no rhyme or reason, or pattern to it. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I just had the random thought that perhaps it has something to do with my settings for it, or even maybe that it's somehow related to me transferring my SMS/MMS messages with Titanium Backup. (Pro version 6.0.1, if that means anything to anybody.)

Before anyone asks... I do not restore the app itself, just the messages themselves.
I also use TI and use the xml to restore messages. I have not had the messaging app close on me at all. So it may be a memory leak and related to any other app doing the same thing. We all use our phones differently so while you may be getting the mms app closing somebody else is getting the browser app closing. It may be the launcher, I think I read somewhere about trebuchet issues with memory.
I am having huge problems with touch latency. For example: Sometimes when I enter a phone number it takes several seconds for the touch event to execute, which usually leads to duplicate numbers as hit it repeatedly thinking it registered nothing.

I have also been getting the random Roam of Death (RoD for short) where my 3G drops to roaming and does not recover until reboot or plane mode is engaged. This is without using WiFi what-so-ever (I have not switched on WiFi at all since loading this ROM).

The phone also flashes constantly when I hold it up to my ear during a phone call. I have not had any trouble with apps or GPS not working, though I admittedly use very few apps.

Just to head you off at the pass, I did a complete wipe before installing this ROM. Including Dalvik Cache. I do not use any recovery program to reinstall apps, I recover apps the long way.

Also, I used CWM 6.0.1.2
I have to ask which version are you using?
The JULY 31st release should have taken care of most of the latency issues, and also should have taken care of the proximity sensor. I may have not cleaned before I built so it may be using the kernel image from before I made the change back to the old CM9 proximity code.. If you would like to test this theory I have built a CM9 with the same setup that can be found in The BSydz Triumph Collection thread.

As far as the ROD, I have not gotten that since like 10 buids ago, so I can't do any kind of debugging. If you run in to this again do this:
open terminal and type su
allow root priv
logcat -b radio >/sdcard/radiolog.txt
Then PM me the log, or edit out your MEID and phone number, and post it. I say to PM me cause it wil contain all of your radio info such as phone number, MEID and stuff, so you don't want that to be public knowledge.

I think leaving WIFI ON prevents the roaming issue. I get these drops a lot too. I never get the issue when I leave my WIFI ON, although it drains the hell out of the battery. I believe the RoD problem usually occurs in areas of low signal so that's why some experience it and others don't.

Also I do recommend using CWM 5.5.0.4, it is more stable than 6.0.1.2.
I agree, only some people experience this.

As for the recovery, I use 5.0.2.7 on my good phone cause it is the most stable as far as backups and such go, Basically any recovery above that has issues with the correct filesystem being used when backing up and restoring. They back up froyo as ext4 and that will make the backups not load after restore. But I use 6.0.1.2 on my dev phone cause the option to sideload a ROM is one of the most useful options when reloading ROM after ROM. Other than the backup issue everything should work fine in any of the available recoveries.

Which version are you using? On the July 31st release, I have not had any shut down or hard reboots at all. I have only had one soft reboot, which is when the device resets to the PA boot logo, not the Moto logo. This is a RAM issue I believe. And was during a very ram intensive game.
I've turned off the following settings which IMHO have helped greatly with touch latency:

  1. System Settings > Sound > Vibrate on touch
  2. System Settings > Language & input > Android keyboard settings > Vibrate on keypress

I have been looking at the vibe patterns that are in our device files and they are all greater than stock, so this may be the issue. The haptic latency may be because the vibe is vibing too long and has to wait to vibe again. I can't promise this is the cause but sounds logical.

My phone has the auto brightness on and still strobes the screen on and off while talking on it.
The proximity sensor is in the kernel So if it was good before then you could try flashing the MAY 6th kernel to test the theory, and to get back just reflash the ROM and Gapps to get this kernel back. No need to wipe since it is the same system.

I have been getting great battery life and haven't even gotten to a point of looking at wakelocks. So any more details would definitely help. It may be an app, but I can't say for sure.

Men i have a triumph that it don't want to die lol, i got a new battery the other day just to let it live again, and install what ever new rom you guys give us.

will be testing this later :)

Here if a screen shot of her

Shutting off location didn't do anything either. Did a fresh install of the ROM and didn't install anything except the gapps package. So no apps at all. Still won't go to sleep. Android os keeping it awake

I am using the JUL 31 build. I got the ROD (lol) about 3 times within about 3 days of loading the rom, but I have not had it happen for a few days now. I shut off all the haptic feedback stuff and that has seemed to help with the touch event latency, but it is not 100% fixed. I sometimes have to select an app 2-3 times before the tap is registered, and sometimes a tap gets stuck in what appears to be a down, or pressed, state where the OS acts as if I have my finger held down on the screen rather than registering a tap. This leads to the OS reacting as if I am swiping screens instead of selecting whatever I was taping on, which results in me having to tap a few extra times to unstick the tap functionality.

Still getting the strobe screen effect when on a phone call, which usually leads to the phone screen remaining off when I take it away from ear. This forces me to press the power button and unlock my phone to hang up from a call. I do not want to use the work around of having the power button hang up the call, as that prevents me from making a 3 way call if I need to.

I have also noticed that sometimes the lock screen is messed up. Kind of hard to describe in text, but when I attempt to unlock the phone the little unlock thing I have to swipe gets stuck in the top left part of the circle and becomes fairly difficult to move to the unlock icon. It doesn't happen 100% of the time, but maybe 40%, but I think it happens most when I receive a call with the phone is asleep.

Also, when going into the phone or contacts portion of the rom, the phone takes on average 3-5 seconds to load. So if I tap the phone icon, it will load to a blank screen and take 3-5 seconds until all the phone app stuff appears. Same happens when selecting the Contacts app icon.

The plus side is that I was using the Virgin Mobile revamp, and with this rom my phone has much better 3g and call coverage. I don't know why, but with the VM rom I had no bars\reception in my office, with PA I have usually 3 bars of 3G available. The battery lasts much longer as well. In general this mod is awesome, just needs some more ironing.

My only issue has been reboots while using the GPS. I'm trying something with setting up a new profile to shut down all syncing and hopefully as much data as possible to limit the number of other actions going on. I'll test it tonight and see how it works.

So I had her run her phone all day with Wi-Fi off. She has Wi-Fi at home and work. The phone went into deep sleep. Something with the kernel or ROM is preventing the phone to sleep when Wi-Fi is enabled. Any suggestions? I've tested this on 2 triumphs each with multiple factory resets.

I'm
fairly sure that the lack of deep sleep in Wi-Fi is a known issue on this ROM. Correct me gentleman, if I'm mistaken.
Personally, my only issue is the messaging, including Chomp, closing
abruptly, as do a few other apps. I can only imagine this being too much memory use.I've tweaked the CPU up, but not much help. Any further suggestions appreciated.

Once again, amazing work Bsydz!

The "bars" scale is just for show. the MT can pick up a signal down to -125dbf (I think that's the suffix). With other ROMs the signal could be biased for a phone that looses signal at a higher point. Case in point, my Epic. It can only pick up a signal down to -106dbf. If you ran a FroYo ROM that had a signal out put in stead of bars I think you would see that the signal would be a similar reading at the same places. Taking into account network breathing, atmosphere... You know?

Our kernels have an intentional wakelock to prevent a known sleep of death issue caused by the processor going to sleep with the WiFi radio on. This traces back to about two years now.. My how time has gone by.

I've been running this rom for over a week and have run into no problems. I was having a problem with MTDEV CM 9 where I would open an app that required an internet connection and if it didn't find one immediately, it would reboot the phone. The Showtime app was good for this. Load up PA and no problems! Runs smooth. I haven't tried the GPS yet but it has never worked right on my phone (even with every fix and rom posted in the forum) so I've just given up on it all together.

Shutting down as much as possible via the profiles does nothing to prevent reboots while using the GPS.

My only recommedation would be to try a fresh flash without any apps and test.

It is a nessecary pain with custom ROMs to start from scratch. Even the manufacter's support would tell you to start from scratch.

A few days ago I heeded the suggestion to clear my dalvik cache and fix permissions in recovery to see if that would solve the issue with the Messaging app abruptly closing. It did seem to take care of the problem for a few days, but just a little while ago I went to open it and it closed immediately so maybe I will have to take a couple minutes to do that again. Seems like a small price to pay for an otherwise stable system.

Once or twice last week I did get the Roam of Death (LMAO at whoever coined that term) but switching to Airplane Mode and then back again took care of it without having to reboot. There were a few times that I noticed my Wi-Fi graying out for a couple seconds at a time, but it didn't seem to actually affect my connection (i.e. I got no errors due to a lost network connection, etc.)

I have found one possible bug with the camera. Last night I was taking a few pics at the bar, using flash of course because it was dark. There seems to be some sort of issue between the flash timing and when the phone actually "records" the picture. The flash would light up, and the shutter sound would go off, but the picture saved would be from a second or so after (or before??) the flash turned off. Basically a dark pic of the lights in the background. I took about 8 or 10 pics and this happened on 2 of them.

EDIT: I just snapped about 35 random pics in a darkened room, including closing the camera and reopening it, and could not repeat this bug. I don't want to say that maybe last night's issue was a fluke, so can anyone else attest to this?

I had the flash issue before when using the camera through third party apps...I haven't had the issue when using the camera app directly.

The camera flash/record timing issue happened to me before on previous builds, but it only seemed to happen every now and then. I think I usually noticed it with the first picture tho... perhaps it's the camera "waking up", so to speak?

Installed the July 31st build last night, so far I'm very impressed. Touch response is smooth, only seems to be bogged down by the RAM limitation. I've compromised by living without Swype, and might even kill off Facebook (those were my big memory hogs).

I am happy to find that (at least so far) the background app settings in the Developer Options is sticking. It seemed to revert itself to "standard" in previous builds, but I like to set it to none or just 1 in order to help the memory a bit.

No random restarts or jumbled texts for me yet. Granted it's been less than a day, but so far I think you got things ironed out rather well, Bsydz!

*Edit* Background app setting still reverts, but that's really just a minor issue. Probably a built-in failsafe somewhere... it's a development option, after all ^_^
