Root Rom + kernel help

Newbie
Been looking through all the thread here and kinda confused on what to do for this... I'm going to root but not sure what the next step is after

Is "flashing" a kernel the same as a rom? Seeing all these posts of "1.5ghz OC kernel" and "1.8ghz kernel" and its confuseing me a just a tad lol. Want to get to that 1.8ghz speed on my TB with a good rom(i see alot of good things for "bamf")

Basically, anyone wanna explain this for me? Flash the latest BAMF rom then find the 1.8 kernel and flash that as well? that what i do?

Yes you flash your rom first thru CWR and then you flash your kernel next with the same exact process...

What if you want to flash a kernal and not a ROM because you dont think the current ROMs benefit you enough just yet?

How do you flash just a kernal and is this ok?

Yes, it's ok if the dev says you can flash it to any sense rom. Read the OP in the kernel thread. And.. why not? You, naturally, did a nandroid backup. ;-)

I flashed the bamf rom through rom manager and nothing seemed to change, wiped the phone but still have the same exact apps/layout as stock thunderbolt o.o Anyone able to help?

I don't think there's much of a change in looks...maybe performance tho...I've never used it so couldn't tell u but most of these find look da same as stock wit performance enhancements...

I did have golf in the app drawer, and i figured out my problem  Was flashing the kernel file he has in his thread instead of the much larger rom file!

Stupid me...

You'll love the BAMF ROM!

Super smooth, phone is much quicker, transitions are extremely snappy. The kernel included is a 1.2ghz overclock on the newest version. 1.3.2

I've used and still have the 1.8ghz kernel saved in case I want to show off quadrant scores, but otherwise there's no real difference you'll notice besides quicker battery drain and the phone gets warmer pretty quick.

At 1.2 its just as fast as you'll need and it has great battery life, relatively speaking for Thunderbolts, no increased heat either.

I'd try the 1.8 for fun, but for everyday use its overkill. Set the governor to 'on demand' and run it at like 1.3 or so. Drop the min all the way down.

One thing i noticed(not sure if im messing something up) is that when i setup a profile for less then 30% battery to underclock it, based on what i read on cpu when im at 18% it doesnt take affect and stays on the main profile. Got the priority set to high to o.O
