Root [ROM] MidnightRom: Sense 1.5.4

The unlimited.io guide is a step by step guide. It does involve a wire trick but I have done this on 3 phones and no problems. Just cut open an Ethernet cable, with one of the smaller cables within, cutoff both ends, leaving an insulated piece in the middle and follow the directions. As long as you keep your fingers on the insulated piece, you should be fine. The trick is tricky, it will probably not work the first time, just keep restarting the app until it works.

If you are absolutely paranoid of bricking, you would not have even rooted it.

Success! It really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but now my phone is stuck in a boot loop. HELP!

EDIT: The last time this happened (bootloops) I used fastboot to flash the boot.img file again but it still didn't work. So after trying restores and even flashing the ROM I gave up. This morning I tried flashing Harmonia and it worked so I restored my 1.4.9 backup and it's working again. I have no idea what happened or why it stopped working let alone why it's working again but I'm ok ;)

Has it ever finish booting after flashing the room?

Yes) Either, 1. adb reboot or 2. Remove the battery
No) Everything needs to be wiped. Cache/Dalvik cache/System/Factory Reset in recovery, then flash ROM and gapps.

Yes it booted up just fine after the initial flash of the rom. Then after the battery dies, and only after the battery dies, the phone won't boot up and gets stuck on the boot animation (the part with the pulsating beats logo). I have tried wiping everything multiple times, but it didn't help. Also I have tried removing the battery after my phone died, but that didn't help either. However i have not tried to do an adb reboot. I don't want to have to adb reboot after everytime my phone dies though, otherwise it would be just like having a tethered phone! lol

Dak, love the Rom.

However, I accidently switched something in leedroid and I get UI errors unless I use the stock sense profile.

Am I losing speediness using the stock Sense profile? Tweaks default profile gives UI errors after booting. I just don't want to lose speed because I made a stupid mistake.

Also, what's a nice setup for kernel tuner for good performance/battery life? Currently 1.5 max 385 low using smartass governor noop with brightness almost all the way down and I can literally watch the battery drain.

Can someone please tell my phone bootloops when I try to flash this rom or a backup? It never did that before when I was S-On. Now that I'm S-Off I've discovered that I need to flash a different rom (like Harmonia) and then flash the backup over it and it works fine. I thought S-Off was supposed to alleviate headaches.

I kept running out of internal storage space for no apparent reason. It was so bad that I had to delete a bunch of apps, then scramble just to get an ssh server installed so I could dig around.

I found 700mb worth of logs in /data/wimax/log -- this is in only about 18 hours of use. I deleted everything and changed the permissions to 000; that appears to have done the trick. It would probably be a good idea to incorporate that into the ROM, or better yet disable logging in the first place.

Aside from that minor glitch, it is absolutely fantastic. I thought the ICS ROMs were a tremendous improvement over stock, but JB is amazing! Thank you so much for all your hard work.

EDIT: Nevermind, it came back after a reboot. chattr +i /data/wimax/log (from this thread: http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-all-things-root/679331-wimax-log.html) worked, though!

is there a cifs.ko module working for this rom and kernel? kernel says it has cifs support. i was hoping to mount samba shares...

I also had this problem. I fixed it by cleaning the data up of Google Play Store and Goggle Play services. I had two reboot twice to get it settle. The point was to re-associate the Google account with the phone.
I'll keep an eye at /data/wimax/log if I get it again, tho
Thanks!

Back home with Midnight. :) This rom is a balance of power and functionality. Will be my daily driver until another ground-breaking rom comes about.

I did that as well on Friday. I ended up wiping everything (but /data). I couldn't do (or think) anything.

I just set the settings in leedroid myself to get back to normal and its working great now.

BTW, not sure but SetCPU seems to not like the Mac kernel. Using profiles is iffy and often locks my phone at 438/382 MHz regardless of governor, and phone won't restart correctly and leads to pulling the battery to fix.

Despite minor problems, loving the ROM dakman. Great work. Just got this phone and glad I chose this ROM.

EDIT: Uninstalled SetCPU and got Kernel Tuner back and same thing. Using Llama for profiles and something is making the frequencies stick and and reboot doesnt work so have to pull the battery. I'm gonna try wiping/flashing again and see if that helps.

EDIT AGAIN... Had to do multiple wipes/flashes before getting it back working. The first flash every time I exited an app the HTC logo came up for a few seconds then said loading until bringing me to homescreen. Very annoying. Took a few more flashes to get it working correctly. Worth the trouble though ;)

The HTC logo popping up like that means that the ui is reloading, usually happens when changing settings in Leedroid.

Very small bug: The frequent tab in the app drawer doesn't show recently used apps, it's always empty.

If it's not a bug and was disabled by default, could anyone tell me how to enable it? Thx

This was after a new flash though. Not doing it now though.

Now my phone is rebooting randomly. My phone is clocked at default settings for the ROM and I didn't mess with anything at all so not sure why this is happening?

Maybe the battery has something to do with it? I'm noticing that every time it reboots my battery is showing almost 10% less.

How come the software number on the rom still shows as the 1.13 instead of the 1.14 if the ota files have been put in?

Since upgrading to 1.4.9 I've noticed that all my contact pictures have severely dropped in resolution when I get a call or msg preview. Anyone else noticed this?

My phone overheated the other day after only 15 minutes of navigation then restarted, and I continued navigating. Battery also dropped to 20% from 95% within 20 minutes.

SmartassV2 governor.

1.4.9 must be the most stable of all your releases. Congrats

0 issues since I upgrade over 1 week ago. Everything is working butter smooth.

SmartassV2 keeps your cpu at the maximum frequency while the screen is on. Try another governor. Look them up and try them out.

Try using interactive. I set mine to only use 1 core unless I need it and my battery was 40 percent yesterday after moderate use the whole day. Turn screen brightness down too and get juice defender or some tasking app to disable data when you turn the screen off.

I don't recommend profiles be used with this ROM. For whatever reason something sets my frequencies to a low level and requires a battery pull to fix.

Also, I've concluded that the rebooting problems isn't from heat. I was using my phone as a flashlight last night to change my headlight and it was -10 degrees out. Phone still rebooted. I think its a memory problem. I've noticed I can't set apps to close after I exit them and I can'tset how many apps to have in the background either. Messing in these options will cause a reboot and the default settings will come back.

I've looked into it and it seems that people are reporting a number of problems. The kernel has been blamed but stock kernel even had reboots. Maybe its just a software conflict somewhere. Maybe dak can figure it out haha.

Hi,

I just flashed the most recent release(1.4.9) and I seem to be having some issues with the cpu overclocking. It seems to automatically revert to the standard 1.5ghz overclocking after a while on standby, no matter what I set it to. Any way to fix this?

Edit: Well, It seemed to of stopped doing this for some reason. I dont know why, But I think its fixed.

Also, I have one more question..

Is there any way to install sense 4.0 themes, Even though this includes Sense 3.6.. From this page?

Before installing this ROM, I HIGHLY suggest you take a look at this thread do everything it says. http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-a...ng-turning-your-phone-into-evo-3d-thread.html

The included goomanager app automatically notifies you when there is a new ROM update! It uses virtually no memory at all, and updates can be downloaded directly from within the app!

Notice!
Sprint has released some phone updates (as of this posting, which is 11/21/2012), including software and firmware updates. It's highly recommended that, along with this rom (which has the other sprint updates integrated) that you also update your phone's firmware.
To do so, simply download this
Goo.im Downloads - Downloading PG86IMG.zip
Put it in the root of your sd card (Do not extract anything from this. Just download and put it straight on there)
Power off your phone, hold the power button and the volume down button at the same time, and it should do the rest! Just accept the update and you'll be good to go!
(If nothing happens, make sure you select bootloader)

Is all (or some) of this still relevent after the latest OTA for the EVO V? Can I skip all the turn your phone into EVO 3D? Does the zip file flash put me on hboot 1.04? Does it do anything else?

If I do all the pre-steps, are there any implications restoring a NAND that I before flashing that .zip file? Let's say that I have to go back to Mobster HD because I just gotta have the baked in JB 4.2 keyboard, can I simply restore the NAND and be up and running, or should I flash another file before restoring that NAND?
