Root [ROM] MidnightRom: Senseless

I've been running 1.07 for more than 24 hours and the wifi problem hasn't surfaced. I guess the reflash helped.

I flashed from 1.06 to 1.07 kept the new default kernal, and it seems like battery life is drastically weaker... Like half the life. Unclocked and no apps running gets maybe 7 or 8 hours.

2)If I do a restart > reboot the phone will appear to shut down but the screen stays on but is completely black. Phone never reboots just sits. I can turn the screen on and off with the power button, but have to pull battery to get it to reboot.
This and and I'm getting a ton of crashes and random reboots during calls. I updated from 1.05, but I actually had to because my phone just got stuck on the startup screen after it ran out of battery one day. Did a full wipe, md5 checksum and all that jazz.

I appreciate your work, just letting you know.

I have also had multiple crashes and boot problems since 1.07. Cleaning cache/dalvik x3 seems to help. I think this kernal is too buggy.

Yeah I don't even bother trying Anthrax anymore. The last flash I did I flashed the MAC Kernel immediately after flashing MidnightRomS, and I haven't had any problems at all. The only thing Anthrax has over the MAC Kernel the is undervolting and allowing you to change LED timeouts, but I never bother with those so I don't feel like I'm missing out. I suggest those of you who are having problems to try another kernel. You may or may not need to reflash and flash the new kernel immediately after do Anthrax doesn't run at all on your phone.
(sorry I don't mean to hate on Anthrax, but honestly it's just always given me problems)

And yet I've been using Anthrax since the first week that the phone was released without any major issues, when kernel tuner was first released I had problems with that but using Setcpu corrected everything until that was sorted out with the release of version 4, even though I've had the paid version of Setcpu for a couple of years I use the current build of kernel tuner because it's pretty lightweight and now works very well and is designed specifically for our phone.

I'm not really sure why Anthrax just doesn't play nice with my phone. When I first rooted my phone (about 4 months ago) the first custom rom I tried was MidnightRom, but I had problems with it (presumably because of Anthrax), so I quit using it for a while. Then when I came back to MidnightRom to try out MidnightRomS, I had the same problem but this time I decided to see if flashing another kernel would help (because I saw someone else solved their problems this way), and it did. I haven't had any problems since. But like I said, I'm not really missing out anything since there are alternatives. Everyone is free to pick and choose and see what works best for them :)

I'm also having lock up and reboot issues with this ROM. They were so bad I went back to Harmonia. Now I'm thinking I'll try Midnight again and flash the MAC kernal. Thanks for the suggestion.

Working on a new version. Thinking of changing kernel from anthrax to mac kernel. I'll see though, after some testing..

Here's a rough changelog

General...
-Add align init.d script
-Change install script
-Update of apps that needed updated

In buildprop...
-Disabled checkin services, error reporting, and logging
-Lots of other build.prop changes

In init.d postboot...

-Change read ahead to 1024
-Enable zram compressed memory
-Removed fsync code
-Change wifi settings
-Removed undervolting
-Change memory settings
-Removal of some code that was no longer needed

I do agree that the Anthrax kernel gives reboots sometimes. I'm switching the default kernel soon, possibly to buttered toast.

Could someone pm me a link to the mac kernel they are using for this Rom I can't seem to find it nor do I know a good version of it. It'd be greatly appreciated.

New version incoming. I consider this one a bigger upgrade than the rest, so a full wipe is DEFINITELY recommended.

-No more crashes during calls, wifi no longer takes forever to connect, everything runs faster and smoother, battery life is about the same if not better, clock speeds go down smoother when the screen is turned off preventing more crashes, etc etc etc

I've tried flashing this new version twice, but I'm just getting bootloops... I did a full wipe both times and I checked the MD5 sums. I am on the 1.04 HBOOT, would that be the problem?

Hmm...strange. I'll try a fresh install again and see if this happens.

Is this happening to anyone else?

*edit*

Worked fine for me. Are you s-on or off?

Hmm...
Go HERE, and download "ICS VM HBOOT - 1.57.5757"

DO NO EXTRACT ANYTHING

Rename it to "PG86IMG.zip"

Put it on the root of your sd card

go into boot loader

and it should upgrade your hboot to version 1.57.5757

Tell me if that works

I will try this and update this post when I have more time, but I need to go out right now... Give me about 2-3 hours.

[EDIT] I changed to the 1.57 HBOOT and I didn't get any reboots :)

no boot loop but seems to be building the system infinite at the beats logo. will full wipe and re flash

*edit* alright, full wipe and re-flash worked and is booted with the JuopunutBear HBOOT. Now for stability testing. I'm still not sure why it doesn't like the 1.04 ENG. Fickle kernels

First post! First off I wanted to say your work is amazing.
I hate complaining and what not but s108 my wifi won't work. Works fine on s107. Kernal problem?
I tried mobsters lite rom and wifi doesn't work either.
Any ideas?
