Root [ROM][MS870] Katana

hehe that's not right GT, but had to go all the way just to see what was at the end of it lol
Lol Don't feel bad. I always go all the way too. I just can't help it. I need to know. :o

Someone here hijacked my browser this way with video playback. It was hilarious. lol

Gt for some reason that joke crashes Android forums app. LoL. Had to use my browser to find out why the app was crashing. LoL

Is there an app I can use to get my hotspot going with out changing my plan with metro. they said I would have to go to the $50 plan and I would only be allowed 2.5GB of data per month in order to get it going.

why not just use the built in hotspot?

6. Install zip from SD

Hello I followed all of your instructions but I am missing something I cannot figure out.

It doesn't give me the option to install the .zip file.

I have followed the directions and everything went smoothly until I got stuck on no. 6.

there isn't even a recover menu when you hold the power button and the volume buttons -/+

It just gives me the option to do a hard factory reset and it exits.

if it's plugged in to my computer in charge mode and I do the process I mentioned above it says "download mode do not unplug the device until the process is complete."

I am stuck here.

Download mood doesn't install ROMs. It only resets your phone to factory. Please the root guide. Then the second init recovery guide.

On this phone you can't get into CWM recovery from "Powered Off" position. You have use an app called LTE2. You don't install the ROM from your computer. It's all done from the phone, you have to put the zip file on your SD card. You will also have to be rooted.

First you have to be rooted: http://androidforums.com/spirit-4g-metro-pcs-all-things-root/692930-how-root.html

Second you have to install this app:http://androidforums.com/spirit-4g-...962-recovery-lte2-recovery-app-now-touch.html

Third fallow this detailed instructions on how to install a ROM. http://androidforums.com/5710670-post121.html

I booted into recovery to install Katana v3 and the Phone is back to when I installed Katana v2 without my apps (Which I already backed up). I finally got into revovery and didn't see option for "Nandroid backup" only saw "Backup, Restore and advanced back up"; did a backup and got a "Backup Complete" message. Was that a Nandroid backup?
Am I stuck or do I now Wipe data/factory reset, Wipe cache, Advanced - Wipe dalvik cache, Hit home buttom to switch to external sd and then install zip from SD?

Stuck in Limbo......Tom

PS I hit reboot recovery and I'm back at Katanav2 new install again. Need to get to Katanav3.

Yes that's the right backup but make sure you are on external SD when you do a backup in recovery.
You aren't stuck. Install like you said above

Oh and if you need the Titanium backup flashable zip just let one of us know. I'll upload it in a few mins. That way you can just install it through recovery if you ever have any problems

Thanks for the reply. I hit reboot recovery and I'm back at Katanav2 as new install. Where do I go from here to install Katanav3? Missing a step somewhere I think.

Thanks..Tom:confused:

You have to use the LTE2 recovery app like before to boot into recovery. Press apply first and wait for a 'success' pop-up. Than press reboot and do factory reset, wipe cache, and dalvik. Than pick your katana v3 zip. Make sure its the v3 version. When its done it will say install complete and than you can press back and reboot. I dont know how you got back to katana 2. That's weird.

Also in the LTE2 app, you have to apply first than reboot to recovery. Dont press the second option unless it said success after pressing the first 'apply' option. You could factory reset if you do that

Ok...Got "success" pop up and booted recovery, I thought I was supposed to a Nandroid Backup before factory reset but I don't see that option.

Thanks again.....Tom

The nandroid backup is the backup you do in recovery. I dont think you should be worried about a backup at this point. Just fact reset and do the wipes than install katana v3
