Root [ROM][MS870] Katana

I have to say this is an awesome rom

And I agree...once again....GREAT job GT. I have one question about that apps that start when I turn the phone on, Adaway for one. How can I set certain programs to automatically start when I turn the phone on, like Lookout and Droidwall as well as Adaway.

Thanks again for all you do.......Tom:thumb:

There's a few ways to do that. The apps you are asking about probably have in-app settings for starting on boot. Otherwise use ROM Toolbox Pro or another similar app and change your broadcast receiver settings. Usually in Auto Start Manager

Thanks again, I'll check them out. I purchased a program "Autostarts"

Thanks Bro

Autostarts or as AGLtech said, Rom toolbox. However you don't need to autostart AdAway. AA is a program you can run 1 or 2 times per month or as necessary. It simply updates androids built in ad-blocker called the hosts file. Personally I update about once a month and it keeps my phone 100% ad free. I like it specifically because it doesn't run in the background using android resources. You can also set it to auto update.

On this phone you can't get into CWM recovery from "Powered Off" position. You have use an app called LTE2. You don't install the ROM from your computer. It's all done from the phone, you have to put the zip file on your SD card. You will also have to be rooted.

First you have to be rooted: http://androidforums.com/spirit-4g-metro-pcs-all-things-root/692930-how-root.html

Second you have to install this app:http://androidforums.com/spirit-4g-...962-recovery-lte2-recovery-app-now-touch.html

Third fallow this detailed instructions on how to install a ROM. http://androidforums.com/5710670-post121.html

Absolutely flawless, I am just missing the Google play store. :o

I restored it and I keep getting the pop up message. "Unfortunately, Google Play services has stopped." every few seconds after I push "OK"

go into settings, apps, click the all tab, find google play services, then clear cache and data, do the same for google play store. reboot see if that fixes it. If not then you will have to uninstall google play store and reinstall it. GT uses a custom playstore. Restoring the old version is crashing it.

where download the latest version of the .apk file for my model?

Go to settings/apps/all/Google Playstore and uninstall updates if any then uninstall app. Then do the same for Google Play Services. Then Place the apk from the link in /system/app and set permissions to rw-r-r and reboot....

Phonesky.apk

I can't find the 'the link in /system/app'
This rom has an app called ES File Explorer. Use ES to place the Phonesky.apk app in the /system/app directory then change the permissions of Phonesky.apk to rw-r-r then reboot your phone.

There you go Ireac... ES File explorer is a little different, but the same concept. I just can't throw Root Explorer into the rom because it's a paid app.

changed permissions but when I tried to hook it up to replace application, it didn't install. :(

es file explorer is garbage.
I agree... You should buy the rights to root explorer so I could throw it into roms. lol :p

I use root explorer (absolutely love it), but ES has much more features that root explorer will never have. lol For the basic user there not necessary, but for me they come in handy.

just wondering if there is a way to switch the external for internal, has anyone tried this on this phone? oh how do I ad an avatar to my profile? I have looked through the profile settings and cannot find it.

I did it and It didn't work.

I admit I am not a pro, I am new at this. please just break the steps down.
Sorry dude I didn't realize you were so new to this. At this point I really don't know how else to help you so I'll leave it to someone else. However, I do recommend that you return back to the rom you were on before and stick with that. Then perhaps read around this forum till you gain enough info/knowledge on flashing roms for this phone and come back and flash this rom or any other rom of your liking.

The first time I ever flashed a rom, I did a ton of research first and it took me a couple months to muster up the courage to flash it. Needless to say, I was so prepared that I flashed it on my first try flawlessly.

Sorry man, sometimes sh!t don't go as planned. I'm sure eventually it'll work out. ;)
