Root [ROM] OMGB v7 1/20/2011 Gingerbread 2.3

ok this is what i know from when i was on OMGB
OMGB= the stock bare bones gingerbread (dev stopped writing the code to go on to OMFGB)
OMFGB= a user friendly highly customizable version of gingerbread

but it is true the Dev of this rom was banned for xda for you got it right he was out sourcing and rewriting the CM7 mod and not giving credit he even went as far at to use one of there roms and just change then outside name and nothing else ... if i were you guys i would go to CM7 or everlon

That's pretty effed up about the dev! Since it sounds like you're familiar with these AOSP ROMs (I've never flashed any so I'm clueless) are the "nightly" builds of CM7 stable everyday ROMs or are they "try out for a few hours" betas? Have you ever flashed Everlon? Did you have any issue with it/are their any known issues? I've checked out the thread on XDA, but it's huge and this is all new to me as I've never flashed anything other than sense ROMs. Thanks in advance

1) i have been with the nightly s since build 0 and the crackflasshers ... they are all stable builds that have new tweeks and fixes every night so it gets updated every night

2)no i have never flashed everlon once i got on CM7 i fell in and havent had a reason to switch ... but when i get some free time ill flash it and let you know how it is if you dont want to try

3) yeah the XDA thread is long and i know i have read it all lol... as far as bugs go the only non working thing on cm7 is you cant record in 720p yet but it is coming... other then that there are some random reboots and thats about it but according to xda and from what i have herd the Release Candidate build should be coming in two weeks or so

hope that helps

Sadly he didn't do it just once. He would create new user names, and new ROM's all the while sourcing CM directly. Hell, for one of them under software information build number it directly reference 'jdkoreclipse' and he STILL denied it was him. It was a shame, and a good source for a laugh all at the same time.

That helped a lot, thank you! I think I may have to try CM7 if it's as stable as you say. Also, if you do happen to flash Everlon, I'd love to hear your opinion on it. Is there anything different to flashing an AOSP ROM vs a sense one? I'm sure you have to use a AOSP Kernel, but is there any thing else I should know about prior to flashing?

no man there is no difference when flashing...
the kernel in CM7 is already backported and patched into the builds do it is already there nothing extra to flash unless you want to use some of the battery mods

for me i am on the BETA kernel that slayher is doing so i have to reflash it every build but it is worth it

bat mods: CM7 [DInc] Mods
build bot the most current is on top updated every night (unless the build fails compiling) released at about 9:30 10:00 pm EST : TeamDouche Mirror System
beta kernel mirror: http://chad0989.dyndns.org/2.6.37-gb-inc_signed.zip

if you wanna try the evervolv here is the XDA thread with change log and download sites i wont have time to look into until next weakened so if you wanna try it be my guest
[ROM-AOSP][01-29-11] Evervolv | GRH78C/Android 2.3.2 | v1.0.1b3 | KB Dictionary! - xda-developers

from what i get it this is a stock gingerbread biased off of the CM coding with special mods a tweaks so going from CM7 to Evervolv i don't see there being much of a difference except less options mod wise for Evervolv

I think I'm going to try and make time tonight or this weekend to flash Evervolv. One question regarding google apps. Do you flash it after the ROM before booting up? Or do you boot/set up then flash gapps?

i actuley tried everlov yesterday and went to flash it and the rom didnt work i had to ndroid restore to get my pone back ... but the GB gapps from CM7 should work for all GB roms

I decided to skip trying evervolv and flashed nightly #32 instead. It's pretty sick! There's a ton of settings I need to learn, but so far I like it a lot. Have had 2 FCs in Zedge, but everything else has been smooth

is anyone still on OMGB haha

I have been on it for a few days now. I love the rom so far, having many force close issues on the default launcher, about 2-3 random reboots a day, and the wireless teether doesnt seem to work 100% of the time. Might be a gingerbread factor not sure though.

Is anybody still using OMGB? I just rooted and flashed for the first time, and decided to install OMGB (1.1.2) because I heard it was the closest thing to vanilla Gingerbread. So far no issues but I've only been using it a day.

Is this ROM even still supported? I tried CM7 but it was too "frilly" for me. I just want as close to the vanilla Gingerbread as possible. Are there any alternatives to OMGB for that?

Also, this is probably a stupid noob question, but what do you use for a Voicemail app? I'm not using Google Voice, and I kind of miss the old Sprint Voicemail app with the notifications and the visual mailbox.

Oh, one more stupid noob question -- if you flash the google apps, can you still update them through the Market? Or do you have to flash with a new zip file?

Thanks!
