Root [ROM] Quattrimus JB (CM10, AOKP41)

OK so I'm semi new to romming and have switches to the aokp build and the cm build and am having trouble with video playing and WiFi not working correctly. I can get a video saved in my gallery to play but its choppy and just awful and my WiFi is saying my router is out of range and I'm 10 ft away from it. Any suggestions or fixes?

You're right, wifi signal is very poor compared to stock ICS. I wonder if it can be improved somehow...

What router are you using? Make and model if possible. I'm getting solid signal across the house with my Linksys WRT54G running DD-WRT.

Using a Cisco e900 here with no issues at all - good signal all over my house and outside halfway down the driveway, probably 80 feet away from the wireless router.

I don't agree. My wifi signal has been weaker ever since moving from gb, regardless of the rom used.

But unlike lte/cdma, the signal strength of wifi generally doesn't matter for performance because of the proximity and way wifi connects (one point of connection opposed to 2-3).

Update: I'm now on Aokp b3 dirty flashed over b2b and the 2 videos I've posted here for testing are playing very smooth.

Neph: Is your mkv file playing smoothly on b3? If not, we might have to find a good sample to work with for testing.

I'm using Belkin router (F7D2301)...it connects just fine but the range is very poor. Not sure why that is, I tried messing with router settings without success.

The .mkv you posted worked fine, but it's not a true 1080p file. I'm downloading this one which is a demo file posted from XDA. Download it as well and let me know what happens. It's 20Mbit/s so it should really push the chip much like my current file is.

There is a possibility that CM10 has some wifi issues, but I'll need more people to come forward to say they are having the issue and with what model. I googled yours and the reviews were not friendly on it.

Amazon.com: Belkin Wireless Surf Router (F7D2301): Electronics

It may be time to change to a different router. For a test, reset your router and let us know what sort of connection your getting. If it's solid, then that leads me to believe that the router is not releasing old connections properly. If it's still the same, do you have any other wifi devices that have the same issue?

Round 1: CM10b3 with MX player - cant play with H/W decoder.
Going to restore back to Eclipse A3 and see what happens there, then to AOKPb3 if it works good in Eclipse.

Round 2: Eclipse A3 with MX Player - played flawlessly and silky smooth. Trying AOKPb3 next for the fun of it...

Not sure what I did to lose GPS. I had originally taken OTA but then screwed up my phone and flashed the CAB file. Just a few days ago I had GPS on CM10 but today after a new flash coming from ICY FUSION it is gone. I went to barebones, got GPS back and tried dirty flashing CM10 over that, but it wouldn't boot. Did wipe cache and dalvik but phone sat there spinning for 10 mins. If I flash cab v6 and take the ota to V7 and then straight to CM10 I should have GPS or is it not worth going through all that trouble?

if it works on aokpb3 for you reeseboy, then we could use the media profiles xml on the aokp and copy it over to cm10?

@Blue- have you tried flashing the aokpb3 rom yet?

If you're going to flash the .cab, just flash the .cab for V7 instead. Much easier then taking the OTA again.

Also, you can not dirty flash CM on top of another rom. It doesn't work well and is most likely why you have data corruption.

Edit: Now that I've read thru that a few more times, do this. Flash barebones -> wipe data -> turn on gps in barebones -> flash cm10 -> wipe data -> only flash cm10 on top of cm10 or you need to wipe data again.

I'm pretty sure the media_profiles.xml is the same between the the beta3's. If it works it will be tied to something specific to aokp... I know I read somewhere that aokp has additional media files in it, like drm, etc. I truly doubt it will work, but I am just coming around full circle so to speak.

Round 3: AOKPb3 with MX Player - As expected, no H/W decoding.
Ok, so we're back at the start with something in OMX/Stagefright. It's not a horrible start, and it seems to be local to only .mkv files. Hopefully another simple fix with a missing file (or memory setting).

I would even go as far as saying vc-1 encoded files, because mkv files using h.264 play fine.

I did something very close to this I believe and it worked. I have GPS again :D

Hmmm... I'm noticing that the file you were testing is a far lower bitrate and is matroska version 2, whereas the Ironman file is almost 4 times the overall bitrate but matroska version 1.

So perhaps its matroska version 2 that is the issue...

Now to go get a crash course on video codecs - Prof. Google! I need some help over here :P

Edit: Neph, can you get the same info on the other sample file?

For those with bad battery life....

Install cpu spy. You will likely notice that your phone spends a lot of time at 192mhz when it should be in deep sleep.

I'm looking into this issue but it will take a few days at least. In the mean time, try using the app "DS Battery Saver". This app forces the phone into deep sleep when the screen is off. I've been using it for a few hours and it works amazingly well.

So deep sleep is even lower than 192mhz? isn't it bad for a processor to go too low in cycles?
