Root ROM question

evoman77

Newbie
Im new to flashing and stuff and starting to figure things out. I just was wondering how the cyanogenmod nightly builds are different than the regular cm7? I also heard about Myn's warm twopointtwo. I heard that its got problems and i shouldnt do it as my first ROM but i also heard its cool so im not sure what to choose.

First off welcome to the forums, the CM nightlies are experimental releases of CM7. They are mostly stable but will have problems. Also CM7 is an AOSP ROM which I don't know if you what that is or not but if you are looking at AOSP I would suggest using Kings GB (I can get you a link if you want). Myn's is a good ROM but I don't use it that much I would recommend either Kings Ultra or MikFroyo if you are looking for Sense based ROMs also Koni's Elite Series are good Sense based ROMs. I can get you links to any of these if you would like. Also you may want to head over to xda and check out all of the ROMs over there.

Random rebooting, stuff doesn't work such as tethering and stuff like that, should be nothing major but could be as bad as throwing your phone into a bootloop.

AOSP means it has nothing but what google made, no Sense. I would suggest the one Mr. Ed just posted. Also you may want to read up on them, they are a good bit different from Sense but I like them more. You will also need to flash the ROM and then flash the gapps to get everything working.

You just flash the gapps the same way you flash the rom just don't have to wipe data, just cache and dalvik. You wont need to flash gapps with any sense ROM.

alright thanks...i got a random question. Im trying to change my recovery to amon v2.3 from CWM and i went to the hboot screen and it says the zip should install on its own and i dont think it did how do i know for sure?

yea i looked in astro and it says its there and clockwork is still there also and i got on my computer and it says its still zipped

it should still be zipped...clockwork folders wont go anywhere...the file wont dissappear because it flashed. Im saying it didnt flash because its named wrong....drop the .zip if you have it on there, if you dont have the .zip, add it, One way or the other it will find it and update.

Well now i have another question...sorry...but i think im goin with kings ultra froyo and i was wondering do i need to update my kernel or radio to do that?

A kernel will come with the rom to know if your radio needs updated I need to know what radio you are on. Should be 2.15.00.11.19 if that is the case then no. settings about phone software info.

If you are looking for something with a more stock feal go with Miks, if you want something more custom go with Kings, also I think Kings may be faster because it is built on Miks and then slimmed down even more.

Alright I flashed mik and I, to be honest, dont like it. I do like how u can change alot of stuff on it but its pretty much the exact same thing as stock. Im gonna tryout kings but I have a question on how to flash it. Do I need to partition my sd card? I just dont want to waste a lot of room on it.

you dont NEED to but i like to. Are you using the stock sd card? then i wouldnt partition it the biggest reason to partition is to run a2sd, its doesnt play well with the stock class 2 card.
