Root [ROM RELEASE] 2.2-based Byron Bare

Just flashed this, added Maps and calculator from this thread, and the 4.0.2 update from Byron Social...everything runs great, super responsive. Thanks for the great work man.

didnt see the update apps in byron social thread...didnt want youtube, but i suppose i could just delete youtube.apk and .obex from system, or just ignore it!

Is this Rom Deodexed?

No. As stated in post #1.

This is done in other ROMs via apps2sd and other tricks, but in Byron this is done through a Google-approved mechanism known as odexing. While most ROMs brag about being "deodexed" (for different reasons), Byron is fully odexed (including apps that are *not* odexed in stock LG ROMs). This means your system apps need not store anything in the dalvik-cache, which frees up space on the /data partition.

This rom is very nice and quick. I have all kinds of free space. One thing I never had in any rom was lots of RAM. I would usually hover in the 10-20% range. I added Auto Killer from the market and set it to Strict. It increased my RAM to the 40% plus range. Works well with this rom. I also set the VM Heap size to 32.

I know. Ive read all of those and never used killers before, but when the android os keeps you at 10 or 20% at all times, especially when you dont use or have many apps, theres something wrong. This app keeps me,as stated,at 40% plus and adds even more speed. If it works for me on my phone, thats all i need to know.

What do you have running using all that RAM?

I typically have 60-80+mb free RAM with the full Byron and even stock 2.2.1.

There's *not* something wrong. Linux tends to leave things in memory that you've used recently so you can pull them back quickly. Evicting things before you need the memory just makes them slow when you want them again.

If you want to use it, go for it, but you're hacking the system. It's working as intended.

Great ROM really. Froyo after using Trident's method left me happy but wanting more. It felt a little buggy and this ROM worked out all the kinks. I enjoy my device very much right now. Thank you. Byron Bare.

Any luck with the Wifi Tether?

Hmmm...I'm tempted to rip into Byron and steal some apk/odex files and stick them in Byron Bare for a more customized experience.

Looks like it won't happen. You'll have to install as a download. I can't figure out why the force closes keep happening. I even tested the version made by getitnowmarketing for his Froyo ROM and it did the same.

By all means, have at it :)

Damn, thanks for trying. I don't have the time tonight to mess around, maybe in a few days I'll try figure something out.

Course I could just start deleting stuff from Byron to the same effect.

If you figure out anything, let us know.

And yeah, deleting stuff from Byron could be faster.

Those should be fine. i feel like i remember hearing that thinkfree will present a problem but i'll try it.

Thanks. I really like the lg alarm widget and am missing it. BTW, I finally got aournd to installing this rom. VERY nice. Not only is it super easy to install, its fast, light and stock, just the way I like it.

The calc., maps and you tube updates work fine as well. Thanks a lot for your contribution.

Do you still have the broken one from the zip I posted? If so I can give you something to fix that.
