Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

has anyone had any issues installing wallpaper? will not install thru gallery, or go launcher ex (v3.2.1)
can also confirm screenshot function still not working.
despite these slight glitches, everything else is running as smooth as possible.

I tested version 2.0.7P for the pass couple of hours last night. Here are the list of improvements I seen from v2.0.7 to v2.0.7P.

Improvements in 2.0.7P:

More memory available on device due to some apps being remove
No longer restarts itself every 30 seconds (Not everyone device will do this its just a rare to get it.)
Faster boot-up
Little bit faster

Also may address the problem that the person is having above this post.

This could be for 1 of 2 reasons:
1. Wallpaper (both static and live) support was retained, but since Aegir wallpapers have been removed.
2. 2.0.7's upload was bad, 2.0.8 is up and may fix this.

Perfect, thank you for all of your help in testing this whilst I (finally) got some Sleip.

2.0.8 is out with typo correction, the apps added back in, and retaining stability of the test build from last night. And remember to format cache and dalvik cache and /system, then update. To be on the safer side with Play Store compatibility, the version of the Play Store is from Aeneas now and will need to be updated.

Oh, and for a fast boot up, on a fresh install, if you reboot immediately after it finishes booting for the first time, it will finish half way into the PowerOn.mp3 and cut it off. Yeah, it'll start up that fast.

downloading now. looks like this one'll do the trick

the rebooting issue has completely solved itself in this update!
still no fix for the wallpaper. I've actually uninstalled go launcher ex, tried working with holo launcher and reinstalled go launcher.
its definitely not a game-changer, but android and romming are supposed to be the epitome of customization...lol

I still think this is the absolute best thing going, so I'm taking it as it comes along. thanks for everything.
p.s. where did you find that space cowboy picture? do you know who the artist is?

try ADW launcher. thats what i use and i have not had any issues with choosing wallpapers. plus it has a lot more themes than Holo launcher. i also like it more than go launcher. ( i went from go launcher to ADW)

I agree! I haven't flashed a custom rom "yet" but ADW Launcher is the best! Just takes a few min to get used too..

Just out of curiosity, why don't you add these formats in the build script so that you can be certain that users don't miss formatting one or the other? Not a big deal but I am curious why so many ROMs miss this simple thing? I see that you are formatting /system while installing and not sure why you are asking users to do it as well.

delete_recursive("/cache");

format("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p12");

Coming back to 2.0.8, loaded it now and looks great. It keeps getting better and thanks a ton for all your hard work.

Did the UI update come in just 2.0.5, and then revert back to the old in 2.0.7? I don't see a difference coming from 2.0.4 to 2.0.7 in the statusbar.

ok just flashed 2.0.8 and it works great except one small issue.... the camera is missing and when i add a modified camera.apk to the system it still doesn't show up even after multiple reboots to try and get it to work ( the sounds were removed in this apk) it still doesn't show up. in 2.0.7 the camera was there and when i replaced it with the modified apk it worked like a charm. so for now i will be sticking with 2.0.7.

Try a different camera app. Mine works just fine.

Benchmark score..

That is awesome.
Sweet work, Artine. It looks and runs great.
Let me buy you a cold one, man. On behalf of all of us here.
PM me your paypal.

If you're serious about it, then I appreciate it. Greatly.

Zedge has plenty of wallpapers and it should allow you to select wallpapers just fine. Through the gallery itself, perhaps. Live Wallpapers themselves were removed but I kept support for them, and you can set wallpapers through Holo Launcher just fine (as in, I just tested it while writing this out just now).

As for the picture, I found it while perusing the interwebs (ie: I go through so much and always have >20 tabs open at all times and multitask doing so much, and archiving stuff so much, that I have no clue where I found it). However, I'll attach post a link to the full-sized, 1920x1080 wallpaper to the post. And then the edited version (I edited it, then downsized it to work with our phones, and for the really-detail-oriented, you may have noticed that the background behind the app dock at the bottom for holo launcher is actually darker - I did this to increase visibility for the apps placed there). Here's the link.

.... you know those moments, where you realize something that should have seemed so obvious but didn't until it was revealed? Just had one of those moments. That's a great idea! I'll throw that into 2.0.9.

UI is far more than just the status bar alone. As for why it sometimes likes the Aegir status bar over a blank black one, that's beyond me. The image is there for it, in the .apk itself, and it's named correctly. Originally there was no .9.png accompanying it, and the .9.png is black. Trying to move it means the ROM won't boot because SystemUI crashes, but you would think it wouldn't since it didn't use to exist (the .9.png). Like I said, there's plenty of reason it should work, but for some reason that part just doesn't feel like it. :dontknow:

However, 2.0.5 was a UI overhaul, and 2.0.7 enjoyed this as well. I recombined the UI once again in 2.0.7, and it turned out better (in my opinion) than before. Now the pop up displays (for example, when holding down the power button), display in the ICS Elite ROM aesthetics. As well as other pop ups too. And, it is on my list to make the battery status in the status bar more legible.

I'll see what I can do. And yes, the sound was removed (it's annoying -.-* ). However, there are plenty of much better camera apps out there. My favorite? Camera360. It even includes vibration reduction. And it's completely free and won't melt your battery. Try it out :)

after 3 different launchers, it is definitely not a launcher ui problem. I've wiped and reinstalled the ROM a number of times and the wallpaper function is just not working. all of the launchers have the options, but no functionality in being able to change wallpaper.
could this be related to the screenshot bug as well?

No, it shouldn't be. But right now I'm on the exact same build as everyone else. I can hit the menu key on the home screen, and tap on Wallpapers, and it loads just fine. You might want to try redownloading it. Try setting them through the gallery instead.

Did you verify the MD5?

I tried Sleipnir, got it set up like I wanted, them went and used the elite theme chooser and my phone started rebooting every time I held the power button. I'm guessing the themes in the theme choose don't support the extra menu options that are shown when holding down the power button.

Also Sleipnir wasn't keeping the 2048 sd Card read ahead cache and was setting it back to 128 just like was happening with Tagged. Maybe it's just my phone.

I probably could have fixed my install by copying a few files out of the zip, but I just restored my Nandroid backup instead.

Which is exactly why it hasn't been included in Sleipnir (the theme chooser). Hashtag is working on an update and also needs to update the Sleipnir UI within the theme chooser to reflect its current state - he is working on this, and because it is not yet finished is why it purposefully was not included in the ROM. Also, the advanced power menu could be an issue depending on how /system/framework is being altered - considering the advanced power menu is a result of android-policy being changed.

The change can be implemented via a script to be retained permanently, and will more than likely be included in 2.0.9. Our phones, as has been stated before by other devs, is very.... weird. Not everything behaves as it should in contrast to the majority of other android-gingerbread phones. As of right now, 2.0.8 is stable with pretty much every bug fixed (billpenny, if a redownload doesn't help and the MD5 sums do match, I'm more than willing to reupload the same file in case the upload was bad in some way, or even make a custom version for you).

Alright, I've made some background script cleanup (I'm starting to reverse engineer the scripts Hashtag included, in order to understand them and tweak them if the need arises). And, I've rewritten the installer to format system, cache, and dalvik cache for you before any installation actually takes place. I've also made some tweaks to the installer that may fix the screenshot problem, and replaced the Gallery3D.apk with one straight from Aeneas. And the search remap might work this time.

And....

I've also created and included an SDfix script. This should adjust both the internal and external SD card speeds to 2048 from the get-go instead of the default (slow) 128.

:D

Has anyone installed this on a Sprint Elite yet? If I wanted to try what would I need to do? I'm guessing I'd want to replace giantpune's VM kernel with the Sprint one. How should I do that? Any help would be appreciated.
