Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

Try a different camera app. Mine works just fine.
if possible id like the oem camera- thanks 4 your awesome but very obvious advice.
I too have the same issue. No camera using camera mx atm*

Keyboard bug gone.no lock lag isssues since setting to your recommendation. Battery loses 1% every 13 min . Holo launcher is the only front app. All else is OS

Just curious what GAPPS we install with this rom? I just received my Elite phone and rooted it and installed CWM, so I'm ready to flash this rom, but before I do so I wanted to make sure which GAPPS file I should be installing after installing this rom? or do I need them at all?

No need to install GAPPS with this awesome ROM.

Really? I've never had that happen, and I've tried all of them o.o Make sure you're clearing your caches (dalvik at least twice) and verifying the MD5 sums and you should be bueno. And with smartassV2 and it putting your phone into deep sleep, there's no need to power off the phone anyway.

Yeah I've cleared them and tried all but whenever I need to reboot it just goes into bootloop but ima try your 2.0.8 tonight and cross my fingers :)

If all else fails, after a Nandroid backup (also make sure you're using the most recent version of CWM, linked to in the FAQ-Guide, and you're on the most recent firmware update for your phone), in CWM "fix permissions", then factory reset, then clear cache and dalvik cache twice, and run Leslie's New_ROM_Elite.zip, wipe battery stats, then flash Sleipnir 2.0.8.

Glad to hear about the lack of lag. Those settings were the result of my own experimentation, and recommended by others - seems to work just fine. 1% every 13 minutes isn't bad, but that's just under 24 hours of battery life. How was that result achieved, what were your settings? I always have brightness at the dimmest level, JuiceDefender on, and CPU tuned to 2xx/16xx smartassV2. Did you have 3G on? Or wifi? GPS? What about sync? And was the display always on, or was the display off/locked?

I'll replace the modified camera by Hashtag with the stock Aeneas one, and see if that works. I'll still stick to my recommendation of Camera360, though. Worth looking at, at the least. Hopefully we'll get that figured out soon!

Has anyone installed this on a Sprint Elite yet? If I wanted to try what would I need to do? I'm guessing I'd want to replace giantpune's VM kernel with the Sprint one. How should I do that? Any help would be appreciated.

I would like to know this as well. Also, as soon as I get a response back from Leslie I'll build a Sprint-specific one and release the two builds side by side.

Also Sleipnir wasn't keeping the 2048 sd Card read ahead cache and was setting it back to 128 just like was happening with Tagged. Maybe it's just my phone.

It looks like even the init.d script didn't work either - so if you've got any ideas, I've attached the script to this post. Feel free to take a look and get back to me on it, because I do agree that one should not have to set it post-install. My first guess is that a simple copy and paste didn't work and it needs to be modified in some way to work with our phones, because right now it's straight out of XDA. It was worth a shot, though, to see if it'd work while still vanilla. I'm still a noob with Android/*nix code, so even something like this is over my head a little.

The line in the installer script is as follows
Code:
set_perm(0, 0, 0777, "/system/etc/init.d/98SDfix");
Flashed and booted with no problems.
Button remap still isnt working nor is the screenshot.
Not that I use either of them anyways. Just letting ya know.
Thanks again, Artine!

Glad there were no problems booting. And, unfortunately, looks like no dice on all three attempted fixes. I just tested it myself, and still nada on screenshot (I don't use it either XD But it's there for people who do :) ), and I think the remap is either permissions-related or a result of deleting the line in the keylayout file. More experimenting is required, it seems - and I'm not giving up. Thanks again for the donation, too!

Thanks to everyone who was willing to test 2.0.9, all of the feedback was helpful and it looks like it's time to return to the drawing board once again.

I'll play around some more with the SD fix thing. I've tried 3 or 4 other scripts already before yours and none worked.

I can't promise any results tough.

Mediafire link is dead. Copyright protected error again.

It's only ever up for only a few hours. The copyright thing isn't valid - as it's all open source, there's nothing copyrighted, and there's no metadata to pull from anyway.

I'm going to attempt another script, and edit this post later with the results.

EDIT: No dice, still. Tried both of the scripts here.

Finally broke the 3K barrier on Quadrant Standard. This version of the ROM is super fast and clean. Works like a charm.

Yeah I hear ya, its not an issue on your end. Mediafire must be wonky.

Who knows. Looking into other file sharing alternatives, as always, but the two best ones available for free that I've known of, that everyone should be using unless there are even better alternatives, are Mediafire and SendSpace.

I'm not sure that any of the init.d scripts are running.

I was looking at this URL, and although it's for a different phone, I think there might be some useful information in there.

I would pick through it a little more, but I've got to go to work I'm the morning and need sleep.

Edit: For example: one of the first things that 17speedy_modified does is clear /data/system/usagestats, but when I put a test file in that directory and rebooted, the file survived.

Tried the ROM but still won't work... I tried restoring apps like 3 at a time and it was working better but after a while it wouldn't boot right... ROMs for me are just a lost cause:(

^^^Swagroid the SAME thing happens to me. I've been stuck on Cyanbread since like August or so and I just used Hashtags theme chooser to get the ICS Elite themes. It put the framework and systemui apk's on my internal memory so I just put them in /system/app/ and /system/framework/ myself and rebooted after each one and viola it worked. :]

I would try doing this from the ground up:
  1. Update to the latest firmware version for your OE, found in System Settings > About Phone >> Update.
  2. When you're up to date, or if you already are, root with Poot and Ministro II (I did this even though I used the Jcase method from long ago).
  3. Install and run (also update if necessary) Busybox from the Play Store.
  4. Download Harmonia v2.03, Sleipnir v2.0.8, and the New_ROM_Elite.zip that is attached to this post, all via a computer, and transfer them to your phone.
  5. Now, head to the FAQ-Guide and download and install the latest version of CWM - even if you're sure you have the most up to date one, perhaps overwriting it may help. Make sure the MD5 matches, and you're following the steps Ktb83 provided.
  6. In CWM after the install is successful, go to Advanced >> Fix Permissions.
  7. After that, go to Wipe Cache Partition and wipe the cache twice.
  8. Go to Advanced and wipe the Dalvik Cache twice.
  9. Go to Backup and Restore >> Backup to make a Nandroid backup.
  10. Now go to Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Do it.
  11. Next, under Install Zip From SDCard >> Choose Zip From SDCard >> Scroll down until you see Leslie's New_ROM_Elite.zip (attached to this post). Select it and install/flash it.
  12. Now, on the same directory you were before, scroll down to Harmonia_2.03_OElite.zip. Select and install/flash it. If you're stuck in bootloops, attempt to flash it one more time without wiping anything or doing anything else in CWM except flashing it one more time. See if that fixes anything.
  13. If successful, follow steps 7-12 as before but this time installing/flashing Sleipnir instead.
  14. ???
  15. Profit.

hey Artine i wanna thank you for all your hard work on this awesome rom. let me know how i can make a donation.

You may do so at this link, and I appreciate it, thank you.

Also, @billpenny78clo, did you get the wallpapers?

Have you looked into dev-host? Free, fast, and reliable.

I am. I think I will use it in addition to Mediafire and SendSpace. For now, I intend to keep using Mediafire simply because of the download speeds it provides for everyone - although the uptime for the links is only a few hours, for anyone who could grab the build within that window of time it would be worth it. So now there will be three options.

Has anyone taken a look at the audio packs?

Artine the boot loop only seems to occur when we restore our Titanium backups and get our apps back. It's happened to me on 3 other roms as well. I even tried restorong just my games and not my root apps. It puts me in a soft reboot loop. Where it randomly flashes the screen 2-4 times then goes to whatever the bootanimation.zip is. It boots up and within a few minutes it will do it again. It seems Titanium Backup only works on Cyanbread for me.

also when you update cwm should the v.5.0.8 change because i tried it and it wouldn't change...

I figured it was you :)

This is a problem I used to encounter as well with TiB. I assume you're also restoring a system app or busybox or ministro II, correct? Or, have either of you tried restoring apps one by one to figure out where the culprit is, and whether it's a system app or user? Keep in mind that you should not have to restore any data because you shouldn't be losing any. I know many say to format /data, but considering I'm not really putting anything in there, just try formatting /system and both caches and you should be good.

Also, you don't have to restore your apps one by one anyway - TiB received an update a few weeks ago that allows you to create a flashable .zip that contains your data, so all you have to do is flash that and that will restore all of your stuff. When I encountered the old problem (and this happened on Harmonia at the time), I found out that the problem was in restoring/overwriting system apps. Thinking back to it now, I didn't have a need to restore them since my system data (read: not apps) wasn't lost upon formatting /system.

donation sent... have a drink on me. you deserve it .

I really appreciate it, thank you.
