[ROM] Velocity V0.4 | LG Ally | Super Fast | VZC | Android 2.1 | Stable

To anyone still having issues with the lock screen or face buttons. It seems to be from flashing Velocity 0.4 over Punisher. Flash Velocity 0.3 first, then Velocity 0.4 and it should clear up any issues (it did with my phone).

I had a couple of kernel panic errors on the first day, but I've been fine for the last few.

Yesterday my phone kept killing Angry Birds mid-game and going back to the homescreen. Today, it killed it with a kernel panic.

How serious of an issue is this?

Will it screw up my phone to allow it to keep doing this?

Ok so I haven't really tried anything to resolve this yet, I wanted to ask if anyone else had this happen yet, the email app that comes with the rom, it won't sync or even allow me to connect with my microsoft exchange email. I was able to get access with V0.3 but after flashing V0.4 (a couple of times now, and yes I wiped everything clean using drellisdees recovery) still won't connect with server or rejects my username/password. I'm going to try reflashing V0.3 to see if that works. I'll repost when I have tried that. Oh and as for the whole youtube thing, it seems the problem exists only if you sign into your youtube account. As long as you don't sign in, you shouldn't have any problems, I know it sucks but that's what you get when you get what you weren't meant to have. There's a huge thread on xda developers forum.

anyone know how to turn off Fastboot bkuz I will not let me do anything from ROM manager. no clockworkmod flash or alt flash. it's crazy.

Do you have to use the apps to sd feature on this rom? If I dont format my sd card will it just bypass the apps to sd feature or is it mandatory?

Thanks

Apps2sd will only work if you have an ext partition on your SD card. If you don't have the partition, apps2sd won't do anything. So if you don't want to use apps2sd, just don't partition.

I installed this with help from someone on the IRC channel, but now I have a problem....

My battery has been going from full to completely dead in about 4 or 5 hours, and the phone gets VERY hot. I tried switching batteries with another Ally, and the same thing occurs.

Can anyone help me?

Ok so i'm on my second rooted ally, the first one about 2 days after I rooted had problems, the symptoms are... No sound when i press the touch screen number pad, no sound when viewing youtube videos, callers cant hear me and i cant hear them unless they are on speaker phone. I got the original phone replaced and am on my second which was rooted and used trident 3... My question is... is this a common problem? anyone else have or had it? is this a result of rooting? or just having a crappy phone?

I'm new to the forums so Hello everyone. I had a specific question in relation to this release. Are you (trident) going to update Koush as to the whereabouts of your files so they can be updated/downloaded OTA through rom manager? I remember seeing a thread about it but figured I could address the concern more directly here. Props to you and all the devs making the Ally into a phone that I actually wanted to use again.

You didn't happen to turn on the WiFi tethering app and forget to turn it off, did you? Because that would kill a battery like that. If not, I would wipe everything again and re-flash. Something weird must have happened because everyone else, including myself, is seeing improved battery performance.

I tried to download both places it wont work is it just me? I tried with IE and opera and Firefox and even with my phone and it wont work how can I get this or were can I get this?

Im really new to this so I really dont know a whole lot except what I seen on youtube or read in the forums. do i gotta partition my sd card again before I add the new velocity if i can ever get it to download or just install the rom? also everytime that they come out with a new velocity and i install it do i always have to redownload every thing again? or is there away i can update velocity to newest version and still keep all my apps that I need like banks and stuff like that thanks for any help. also I still cant get velocity 4 to download how can I get it can someone send it to me please or is there some way i can get it?

Just got Velocity 0.4 installed (my first "rooting" adventure!) and am pleased so far. I do have a question about the Apps2SD feature.

I use 3G Watchdog Pro to monitor and control my 3G data usage, as my plan has a very limited quota. The app's developer states that because 3GW runs as a service, it will not work reliably if it's installed on the SD card. I'm new to all this, but I gather that the solution would be to move 3GW from the SD card back onto the phone's main memory, specifically the /system/app directory. Can anyone explain the proper way to accomplish this?

Similarly, I think I might have read somewhere that some Widgets will also suffer from degraded performance if run from the SD card, and therefore might also benefit from relocation into the /system/app directory on the phone. Does that sound right? If so, is there a general approach for doing this, and is the process any different for Widgets versus apps?

Thanks,
~ Justin

UPDATE: I think I may have figured out the answer to my own question. I bought Root Explorer from the Market, installed it, and used it to find the 3G Watchdog .apk file in /system/sd/app, move that file to /system/app, and then install it (by doing a long-tap on the file, then selecting "Install" in the resulting popup).

This seemed to work, but there was one annoying side effect: 3G Watchdog now appeared twice when I tapped the spot on my home screen that brings up a scrollable grid of all installed apps. I fixed this by uninstalling the app, then re-installing it via Root Explorer.

I'm guessing that a slightly refined procedure would avoid the duplicate app icons: first move the .apk to /system/app, then uninstall the existing app, and finally install the moved .apk file.

The app appears to be working fine now, being stored in internal memory. Yaay!

Well I finally have Velocity 4 up & running. :) The install was very painless.:D I finally switched to Amon-Ra 1.2.5 & everything went flawless. No home button issues, no Youtube issues. Actually no "Not working" issues of any kind. The only drawback that I observed was a bit of sluggishness out the gate. I LOVE the scripts! So much adjustability. I uninstalled a few apps & then went on a Market binge downloading all my favs. Then I played with turbo and the cpu overclocking. WOW!! What a difference. It's like I have a whole new device. Sluggishness Be GONE! So far I've only gone to 748 on the cpu but over the next few days I'll give it a through workout & then update this post.

I would like to take a moment to thank Trident for the time he took to answer my noob questions, as well as developing this fantastic ROM. Rock on Dev's, Android & Android Forums!!

Ah, where to begin? I think it worth noting that I am a dumbass. Having said that, I thought I was having some issues with my email app in trying to access my works exchange server. Since things always worked with V0.3, I had told myself that it must have been a bad flash or download or something of that nature. I then thought, why not wipe the slate clean. COMPLETELY STOCK! I mean completely! No cool rom, no custom recovery, nothing! I was even able to get the OTA update, that's how stock I went. So then I tried my email app again and what do you know, it still wasn't working. This is the part where me being a dumbass comes in handy. I thought I knew my exchange settings, I really did, till I texted our IT guy here and he explained to me that due to something he had done over the holiday weekend required a change in the settings, he sent an email out about it, but without the setting change applied, I couldn't get it. So a little bit of dumbass on his part as well. Though I probably should have started there instead, but that's what entitles me to the dumbass status I so enjoy! So once I established that it worked on a stock phone, I reflashed to V0.4 directly, since I had copied everything from my SD card before wiping the whole slate clean, it installed easily enough. So now that I'm back up and running V0.4 and am aware of the youtube sign in problem (which is a problem with the app itself that I don't think can or will be fixed), everything has been working flawlessly. I have the CPU at 748 stable, disabled the corporate apps and fixed permissions, it is so nice to be able to hang with (and once or twice even beat out) droids of a higher cost and performance value. X-mas has left me fairly dry financially though, so it'll be a little bit before I can donate, but you can bet my dumbass that as soon as I'm able I'm making a Redbull contribution. Thanks again Trident for this amazing transformation of an utterly boring phone (believe me if you go back to stock you'll know what I mean)!!!

I figured out how to use the "cpu" overclocking script, and it leaves me with a couple of questions:

(1) The script offers a choice between governors called "ondemand" and "interactive". What's the difference?

(2) Is there some way to test the performance of a certain clock setting definitively when I'm ready to test it, rather than just setting it and waiting indefinitely for it to possibly crash at an inopportune moment?

Thanks,
~ Justin

Only thing I can tell you is that my Ally only oc's to 748, everything above that is kp. Different Ally's can oc to different speeds. Just have to wait and see.

With Velocity .3 my phone crashed once per day, usually after using an alarm and hitting snooze a few times. (SO worth it)

Now I have Velocity .4 and it's not quite noon, the phone has crashed 3 times.

I deleted Handcent bc I thought that might be the issue but no change. Phone still crashes.

I've wiped cache and dalvik cache.
I'm tired of taking the battery out every day!

Anybody else having an extremely UNSTABLE Velocity experience??

**Removed all .apk's besides stock and tested alarm + snooze with NO crashes.
I'll add them back a few at a time and test the alarm for each group. It would appear that a rogue .apk is to blame for the random reboots.

**Phone crashed after installing Launcher Pro. Removed Launcher Pro and using Zeam instead. So far phone is stable.

I love Velocity, even with the few bugs I've had it's been amazing. I would have returned my Ally (attached it to a brick and thrown it through a window) without it.

There has to be something your using that no one else is causing these issues, try running it with the stock apks. If you still have problems try flashing a non OC kernel

my battery life has doubled since rom instalation

Ive used .3 and .4 without any issues!

I had this same problem and it turned out to be a very easy fix. Just get some headphones, plug them in, unplug them, plug them back in and then take them back out. Now reboot your phone.

I have updated the:
Color Changer

Now it is menu driven. Executes faster, easier to add new colors to, and what all of you are concerned with: More colors. I added Android Green, Baby Blue, Cyan, Gold and Royal Purple.

If you have more colors that you think should be on the list please let me know.

The zip is recovery flashable. I HAVE ONLY TESTED THIS ON VELOCITY 4, thats what I wrote it for, if you flash this to another rom and FUBAR your install - dont be surprised.

Available for download on mAndroid

Worked perfectly! Thanks for this! Very simple to use

Just wanted to say thank you to Trident for this rom...so far its the most stable one out of all the ones I've tried(except stock of course)...no lagging, very smooth and fast, apps2sd is awesome...vel 0.3 gave me issues, but I have to say that outside of kp's from oc'ing(my own fault), and the very occasional reboot, this is awesome! I just wish I had the guts to try Drell's froyo rom to compare them, but I just haven't taken the plunge yet.
