Root [ROM] Viper4G 4.0.0 and beyond

I have Viper 4G 3.1.4 installed and I am unable to get WiFi Tether to work on my computer OR on the phone side. My phone pushes a pop up message saying "What the Hell!" along with a couple other things I can't remember right off-hand, and my phone shuts the program down on its own. I also had the same message when attempting to use other versions of WiFi Tether before installing Viper. Could it be from some type of screw up during rooting process? Should I try re-locking & starting over from the beginning? I have Hboot 2.09.0000 and firmware 3.16.651.3 with S-ON if any of this helps. Please someone give some advice since tethering was the reason I rooted! Thanks

To use the hacked hotspot, they hacked the sprint hotspot that is pre-installed on the phone, correct? And yes, I have tried it. My computer picked it up & connected, but no internet access. Any tips on what I could possibly try to get it working? I'm still trying to learn this phone & where everything is at on top of the changes & tweaks with Viper.

hmmmm well i just flashed the carbon rom and now i'm having issues with wifi and tethering. i was going to check something out for you.......well to be honest i do not tether much at all.....and it has been a long while since i was on viper.

try the other wifi tethering apps i linked in your other thread.

I tried them ALL before I installed Viper, and had the same result. Even the hacked Hotspot is showing and saying I'm getting an "excellent" connection, but no internet access. Page always times out. I don't have internet at home, so I use WiFi tethering for online gaming on Xbox Live, and PdaNet on my computer usually via USB connection. So HOPEFULLY I figure this out soon. Could it just be an issue with 3.16.651.3 firmware that sprint put in to prevent tethering with their OTA?

Go into the settings on your WiFi Teather app instaled with Viper.

Settings / Change Device Profile : Generic ICS/JB(wlan0)

Settings / Enable MMS Clamping

Settings / Enable Routing Fix

You can also go under Settings / Change Channel Select a different frequency, sometimes this works.

Hopefully these will get you up and running. :)

I've been having the exact same issues! Unfortunately, after pouring in a few days (a couple months ago) I never found a fix. It's going to become a huge problem soon when the family heads to the beach.

Search the build.prop and make sure "tether denied" is set to false.

This shouldn't be set to "True" on any of the custom roms. I can see the stock rooted roms, but not Viper or MeanBean. :hmmmm:

I'm going to poke around the Build.prop for the latest Viper and see what I can see.

EDIT:

I looked in the build.prop under / Sysytem, ad I can't even find anything in there labeled as "Tether Denied".

Ah darn, I know this was a old way to get tethering and hotspot to work. It might be hotspotdenied instead of tetherdenied. I don't remember

Guy's,I have a question. I'm running viper 4 g 3.1.4 and really happy but I saw that on 2/16 there was an update. What do u think of updating existing rom ? This means I have to reinstall like from scratch correct ?

3.1.4 is the latest Viper4G.

I'd hold off if I were you, especially if everything is working.

Work continues on the rom, it's still fully supported and they have a lot cooking. I'll post the next update if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Likewise, we need to move these posts to the Viper4G thread. :) If no one else gets to it first, I will when I'm at a PC.

Oh man guys, the coolest thing just happened,I just got a system update message saying update available for viper rom. Should I trust and update ?

Yeah awesome !!! But since I didn't have WiFi I prosponed and now I can't seem to find it. Any ideas on how I can retrieve ?

Anyone having an issue with apps in the play store saying that they are incompatible even though some of the apps are even already installed? I am getting this message with numerous apps that are already installed and some that I am trying to install (realtor.com). I have cleared all the cache & dalvik and I am still getting this message. Any thoughts?

I had this problem too. Play store didn't recognise my device.

I think there was something awry in the build.prop, or the google.services wasn't syncing. Not really sure.

I ended up wiping the thing clean and reflashing. Works fine now. :)
