Root [ROM][WIP] CM6-Ascend (CyanogenMod 6) Current: 04212011 (Cricket/MetroPCS MMS WORKING!)

Okay, so I need some help. I have CM6 on my Ascend. I tried to use titu but it would not give me my damn contacts or text messages. They are important! Also, is there any fix for the USB issue? Its really annoying... Thanks for any help!

The only way to fix a lot of the problems with cm6, is to totally delete everything thru clockwork mod on the sd card ,and phone, use every setting to delete everything,( of course you would save your important stuff to your computer first), download a fresh cm6 zip, gapps, and clockwork mod(I use 3.0.0.5) to computer. I made sure that even clockwork mod was deleted from phone before I started reinstalling. Use a microSD card reader to put apps on sd from computer, starting with clockwork mod first, install that, make sure that's loaded on phone(check), then go back, and install the rest, except for a small, very infrequent autorotation problem, everything works well, even mms, just stick to stock messaging app, the replacement messaging apps work good at first, then you slowly have problems.

So, with the help of guides from this community, I was able to get cm6 on my ascend. love it. But there are a few things regarding apps and tweaks

1. I have build CM6-04152011-Ascend. Is this the latest build? If not how do i go about updating it? I would prefer not having to completely wipe everything I have customized on it so far, but if that is the only option then i'll do it.

2. I hit the update notifications, and hit register. Does registering actually notify and update u when new releases are there? I'm not sure if it's registered, since it sat there saying it was registering for a while, then the pop up disappeared with no confirmation or anything.

3. Orientation. My phone gets stuck for some reason in either portrait or landscape, and wont sense when I am tilting it. When I reboot, the phone stays properly switches orientation when I tilt it, but after sometime it just stops changing. Not sure what is causing it, But I flashed my gf phone to the same Rom I had and she is also experiencing that stuff. Is it my rom version or some tweak I have to do?

4. Is there an easy way to get a start up boot sound? what I have seen so far has been some very confusing and complicated scripts that I just frankly don't understand.

Thank you to everyone who can provide me with some info.

1. The latest build is 421 you can get it here: CM6-Ascend - Prepaid Android This is the dev's (pip2kk) webpage.

2. No you are going to have to go to the webpage I posted in 1.

3.There are a couple things that you can do to help that. I think there is a thread somewhere about it. But even then it will happen on some people's phones. It's a quirk of CM6 and I don't think Pip is planning on fixing it (I could be wrong about that though).

4. I haven't messed with that yet but I don't believe there is an easy way.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the wiki and tried out the whole keep home app in memory thing. Seems to be working for my screen orientation problem.

Thanks for the other info. If you wouldnt mind, Could I pick your brain about apps?
Currently, I am using SetCPU, with on demand scaling at 245 min and 710 max. Do i need this with CM6?

Juice Defender. I have it. Does this help or is it just a waste of phone resources?

Am I missing any apps that are essential? Or just helpful in general. Thanks for your help so far. Doesnt seem like I need to upgrade, given that there are no big differences in my version versus that newest one according to the wiki.

SetCPU isn't necessary with CM6 unless you have a phone that isn't stable at 710 (which yours seems to be good).

Juice Defender. I actually had worse battery life with it. To get max battery life turn off GPS, Wi-fi, and Bluetooth if you aren't using them. Don't use live wall papers, and don't use widgets that constantly update like weather and facebook and such.

A couple good security apps are Droid Wall, Ad Free, and ES Security manager. They are free apps on the market.

For the Screen Rotation issue, go to Settings>CyanogenMod Settings>Performance Settings, click OK, and check "Lock home in memory". This is mentioned on the wiki page for CM6. You also need to go to Settings>CyanogenMod Settings>User Interface, scroll down, and make sure only "90 degrees" is checked.

I am running CM6 with these settings, and it doesn't have a problem with rotation stopping, although I have noticed issues if I have 180 and/or 270 checked. The stock Ascend only has an option to rotate to the 90 degree position, so it's possible that this plays a part in it.

You can do all those things on the forums to get rid of the autorotation problems, download diff autorotation apps, but it's hard to make it stop, sooner or later, the problem comes back, I've been using autorotate control from market, had it for two and half weeks, it's working so far. Got advice from prepaid androids from a developer.

CM6 has been pretty much abandoned for CM7, there's not too much development for it now, I keep it, only because I think it's good for what the hardware can do.

It all depends on who you ask as to whether it's been abandoned, really. I'm still using it because of problems with CM7, and it's not slow in the least. In all honesty, I see very little difference between the two, aside from cosmetics.

Given that CM7 is more graphics intensive, doesn't it run slower than CM6? what is the benefit of cm7 over cm6?

Also, has anyone been able to figure out how to add a boot sound? I will fumble through w/e steps necessary. Just google hasn't really given me any results as to how to add one.

I will say there is definitely more talk about CM7 vs CM6. In all honesty, from my research, they're both nice. If I had an Ascend I would definitely be utilizing one or the other. I say try both and go from there :)

abandoned? wtf? ill go ahead and not continue working on it. lol

JUST because there are no updates....doesnt mean it's abandoned. as far as bugs that I'LL be fixing...THEY are MOSTLY (99%) resolved. so suck on that. abandoned, my ass. complete is more like it.

I installed CM7 a while back on my Ascend, and for no apparent reason yesterday the wifi stopped working. There have been no issues until now with the ROM at all. The wifi connects, but when I go to browse, I get a red google page telling me to update. That is useless, because when I do, nothing happens. When I go to the market, I get a server error. Its like that with all online tools. I re-flashed with the same results, I have disabled and re enabled wifi, and then I flashed back to CM6. Still the same issue. Can someone help please? I dont want to go back to stock. That is just lame! Thanks for any help received.

when flashing did you format data, boot, system, cache, try going into recovery and fixing permissions...

I did all of the above...and since I have posted this, I re flashed CM6 and the wifi worked for a couple of hours and I just went back to check it and its gone again...no market, internet. This was never an issue even with CM7. Do you think it could be the phone? I am jumping to the ROM but CM7 always connected and then all of the sudden stopped. It says its connected but it doesnt go anywhere, the only thing that I can think would cause it is a gliche with the ROM.

It says connected, then when I go to the market I get the error "A server error has occured. Retry or cancel to return to the previous screen"....still not getting through. I am right next to router so the signal is excellent and connected.

weird....try getting a fresh copy of cm7 something might had got corrupt some how, but i will look into it.

If anyone still has problems with their autorotation controls, and have tried everything on this forum, and still have problems, download autorotatin controls from market. Even with this, the rotation sometimes get stuck, but instead of rebooting your phone, you can open this app, and disable rotate to the right. The grey button has all the options, just press until you get that.
