Root [ROM][WIP]CM7 Port for Vortex VS660

ARGH im very excited that the camera is working but YOUR LINK IS DEAD geofferey....

I've been having issues with megaupload the past few days. Even going to the home page usually times out. Try it a few times. Took about 5 minutes before the page would load for another file earlier today. Even though megaupload pages won't load right now, I just downloaded it fine with mipony. It's a program for batch downloading from sites like that, but I don't think it's necessary.

edit: So geofferey, flashing your backup shouldn't cause the boot failure now right? And does build.prop still need to be replaced for verizon phones?

alrighty, I know a little late but, here. A zip of the camera you can flash. signed and good to go. Also when I said GetItNowMarketing's kernel I did not mean the recovery.

Oh, and the screen animations is definitively a kernel problem. (probably knew that) But, My screen animations worked perfect when I used the boot.img from the BACKside mod. But I lost my ability to rotate again. so back to getitnowmarketing's.

Nah, there shouldn't be any issues with booting. The problems I was experiencing wern't because of a nandroid backup, it was because I flashed an improperly modified image. I haven't replaced the build.prop & the phone seems to operate fine on Verizon, with the exception of the mobile data bug.

I wouldn't say so mate :D. Thanks for the patch, it's still of use which means your not late. Some people would probably prefer flashing a fix instead of a nandroid backup from somebody else. I have found that you gotta be careful not to make changes to the system (such as font's lol) when making the backups for other people to use.

I know the workaround for the screen on animation bug has been discussed since the beginning of this thread. But messing around with it now, I found a way to get the screen back on without pulling the battery. Holding power+vol_down+home for a few seconds made the backlight turn off. Then pressing another button (back or menu at least) pulls up the lock screen.

Most everything seems to be working well. I needed to select International Roaming for 3G, and overclocking didn't work until I flashed gnm's kernel. I used geofferey's backup which included the camera fix already.

I did also notice the weird number for "Alternate signal display." It shows -1073741916.

how usable is this build right now?

Works wonderful after fixes. Only problem for me is the screen animations. If I knew anything about kernel building I would try. but I'm no good at these things. Hopefully BobZHome has an update to his kernel sometime soon.

I'm using this ROM on my daily phone. It's pretty much completely usable after the fixes that kappacat mentioned:

Disable screen-on/off animation: Settings --> Display settings
Enable International Data Roaming to get 3G working: Settings -> Wireless & networks --> Mobile networks
Flash getitnowmarketing's kernal to fix screen rotation and some overclocking issues
Copy these files (pulled from IHO rom courtasy of kappacat) over the files in /system/lib/ to get the camera working

Issues you will likely have after applying fixes are:
Camera not displaying correctly when using QR code scanner apps (although, it still reads them just fine)
Lock screen can take a second longer to come on then usual, or the screen will come on but remain black, requiring you to touch the screen for it to display properly

Or you could save some time, and use the backup that geofferey uploaded a page or two back, once you get this ROM initially installed.

GREAT WORK EVERYONE!... if only some minor things get polished up a bit more. but overall, im gonna stick with this rom for now!
1. lock screen lagging/ animations
2. roaming

Updated OP(first post) to new build
Feed back welcomed/needed
Thanks!

Okay, screen animations were successful. I didn't have to use the Verizon fix, camera still doesn't work (fix still works), still no rotations, and still the headset bug that was mentioned earlier. Thank-you for all your hardwork.

got my camera working. :) I copied all the files in the system/lib/ that had the word camera in them of the rom I mentioned earlier and changed the permissions of the files i copied over to rw-r-r--
I was read back and found this interesting...can you try changing the permissions of the files I have in the current rom to see if it works?
Thanks

Look back at some old logcat's I saw something that I didn't see before and I believe I figured out the rotation issue.
I just updated the OP(first post) with a new build.
New build name is CM7.2.0RC0-VS660-BobZhome-120211.zip
I added .0 after the 2
Let me know if I got it right!
Thanks!

The camera seems to work! The rotation does not seem to work. Checked the sensors with Elixer 2, and none seem responsive except mic and proximity.

Also, overclocking is working! Other people mentioned the screen animations and mobile data working already too.

Great progress!

It didn't fix the rotation issue, and I'm also having an issue with callers not being able to hear me now.

Gave someone a call. She said I was a lot quieter. Talking louder helped a little, but it was "not normal." Would a logcat be helpful for this?
