Root [ROM][WIP]Party Time JB 3.2

Has anyone else had any issues with the hangouts not being able to do video chats?

I did find out that viper4android does actually have a glitch with hangouts video chat, but after disabling it still didn't work. Also that glitch is supposed to be fixed in the current version of Viper4Android that we have, so it should actually be working.

I will if I know it's purpose, I kept it because i was scared of removing it for functionality purposes, what does it do?

It's a service for notifications from Samsung Apps like the Samsung Store. I just removed it (/system/app/SPPPushClient.apk) and have had no problems. I'm going to look around in /system/apps to see what else can be safely removed. I hate bloat and unnecessary apps. I'll let you know what I find. The Push app was just the most annoying since it asks to be updated in Google Play.

Edit: For a laugh look at the reviews for the Push Service in the Play Store.

Double Edit: I also removed PageBuddyNotiSvc.apk which uses 4.1Mb of RAM while idling and 4.3Mb when in use. This does have the effect of removing the Recommended Applications section in the notification area when using headphones (which I personally find annoying) and removes the Beats icon.

I also removed InputEventApp.apk which uses 8Mb of RAM with no ill effects. Both of these applications are services that were constantly running and eating up RAM for no reason.

Yeah I almost deleted page buddy but decided to keep it to add in the beats logo...and I'll definitely get rid of spp and its so funny on the play store description haha!

I also changed the boot animation to the stock Nexus 4 animation (the Nexus 5's boot animation is just a bunch of circles which I don't think look as cool). If you're interested you can download it here. Just rename the zip to bootanimation.zip.

I'd love it if you had a version of the boot animation that you have now without the Beats logo.

Yeah, i was already leaning on goin towards the nexus 5 bootanimation, i've used it before and i like the simplicity of it

Yeah, I know about that method, but it isn't so much that it decides to freeze; as it is when it decides to do it that bristles my ire.

It's usually when I'm in the middle of something, or want/need to do something (almost always immediately...Murphy's Law & all).

I've been trying to pick out a pattern as to when it happens, but that quest seems futile; and as often as that has happened to me since the inception of 4.1.2 with this device, it's gotten QUITE maddening...

I DID re-flash 3.2 last night (gave it another chance); and it DID boot up and act 'right'...more reports on this to follow...

While I don't believe that any one piece of software is the culprit; I DO feel that the dev.'s at Samsung were VERY short-sighted and cheap when corporate went to them and said: 'Get us another device out there'; that they just 'hodge-podged' something with whatever they had lying around the lab to appease the suits and buffalo the masses. And it's that belief that still fuels my thoughts that there are more than one supplier of touchscreens for this phone...much like my previous phone, the LG Optimus V, a couple of years ago.

Like I posted earlier, can't afford another at the present... so we'll see.

Peace,
Sox

So how's the reflash been?

So... how did you do this? I followed instructions and failed. :P

Rename the zip that you downloaded from that thread to bootanimation.zip. Make sure to backup your old bootanimation.zip if you want to switch back. You need to put the bootanimation.zip in /system/media folder. To do that you need to have root access. You can use a root file browser like Root Browser (which is free) to do this.

Actually, so far I can't complain. Everything seems to be running pretty smooth.
This morning, I went ahead and throttled up the CPU to 1517.
I am having a problem with Chrome...it's crashing about 5 seconds after you open it...you can't even get the cursor to flash in the address bar.
It's not a real big deal for me because I don't use Chrome as a mobile browser anyway, so if I can't get it to function I'll just take the icon out of the tray.
other than that it's been pretty good...knock wood!

Peace,
Sox

Feature request: on next update, SB, can you please get the wifi hotspot working? The reverb is very difficult to get the wifi hotspot working on 3rd party app. TIA,

Your Partytime 3.2 rocks!!!

bun

Also, if PDANet isn't your cup of tea... use Wireless Tether TrevE mod that is mentioned in the Mirage Kernel post. That works every time as well.

EDIT: Oh and btw, thanks Anubis. Had success with the new boot animation and took it a step further, switched it to a Sony Xperia boot. :P
I'm a huge Sony nut. :)

Just wanted to say thank you to superboy for all your work done to this rom. I had one question tho. When coming from a diferent rom can I just install your latest update and flash or do I need to install pre 3.2 versions first?

As long as you are rooted and have a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP, just download the latest version, flash and you're good.
Be sure to click the thanks on his OP...

SB... did you add to this one since yesterday?

Edit: NM, I wasn't paying attn. to the + & - on the changelog list...

Sorry one more question should I download this rom on my computer and transfer it or download straight to phone? Ive tried couple times to my phone but keep getting hung up around 500 mb.

This is the first time I've put a non-stock ROM on my phone and I'm very happy with the results so far. It's breathed new life into my painfully slow Reverb. Thanks for your work on this SB.

One issue I'm having is with the video camera. The video's don't seem to get saved. Photo's work fine, but not videos. Is anyone else having this issue?

I always download everything to my computer first, it's more reliable

If you've never had problems with file transfers between your phone and pc, then that would be the way to go. But I, myself have experienced much bad juju in this area, so I just piggybacked my wifi with the phone. But then again, I was also subjected to using an Acer Netbook running Windows 8...

Don't ask...

Sox

Windows 8.1? You think that might make a difference?
As far as having the pc push to the phone, I'm not sure. I'll give it a try the next update that you do.
I can tell you that the phone froze up 2x in the last 2 hours...and I can also tell what caused it both times.
I was running Facebook thru a 3rd party browser; Next Browser. It has built-in portals (quick links) on its homepage for about 6 apps; Yahoo and FB are 2 of them. Anyway, I was checking in, found a video that direct linked to a youtube video that I wanted to check out.
Both times, it was when I tried to go landscape and fullscreen with it. Not sure if it tells anybody anything or not, but figured I'd put it out there. I've still got the CPU set @1517, and other than the video snafu Next Browser has been working flawlessly; even FB was working great until I tried to watch that video.
If it was left in portrait, it loaded and played fine.
YouTube videos run fine when you are at their site...

That's all I got for now; if anything else pops up I'll be sure & post it up.

Peace,
Sox

Also, I would think that the optimum scenario for pc/android communication would be a linux os instead of windows. Interloper told me earlier in the year that he uses Mint; and someone else told me they have a dual-boot Mint/Win 7 set up. THAT may be the route that I take once I get some more hard drive space on here.
XP did seem to be more 'cooperative' (for me, at least); Vista was another 'Millenium'; the verdict is still out on 7.
Windows 8 to me is a four letter word and will NEVER occupy digital space in my PC...EVER!! ;)

XP is the most reliable for me as well when working with Android stuff. I even reinstalled XP on my old laptop after using 7, so it's my go-to Droid machine now. Kies never worked on 7 either.

yeah, i'm dual booted with ubuntu 13.1 and 8.1

Personally I do all my phone Stuff on Win7 Ultimate. Both on my desktop which is a gaming rig I've slowly put together, and on this little netbook I'm using now from Gateway (Acer). Never have had issues. Sometimes my usb cable seems funky so I use dropbox.

Windows in general will never consume space on my HDD (with the exception of a VM), I'm a Linux man through and through, but to each his own. :)
