Does anyone know if a stock kernel is part of the fresh 4.2 rom? I've been trying to find out if I have a stock HTC kernel or the netarchy kernel I flashed months ago. Just flashed the fresh 4.2 rom and radio/wimax. In Settings>About Phone> Software Info: kernel version, it reads
2.6.35.10-gc0a661b
htc-kernel@and18-2 #1

yes, all the gingerbread roms have only the stock kernel. we currently do not have a custom kernel as of yet. i believe the dev needs the source code to create a custom kernel for gingerbread which htc has not released yet.

Thanks! I have been reading that only stock kernels work, I just wasn't sure if a kernel was part of a custom rom like flipz's or if my phone would just keep the last kernel I had installed. Would my kernel version info match others?

it should. not sure if they change the name or no, but it should all be the same kernel. all roms come with one type of kernel or another. you can't run a rom without one.

For the most part any rom will have a kernel that goes along with it. Most have the stock kernel but some(2.2 roms at this time) will have a custom kernel with them. The only things that don't change when you flash a rom are hboot, recovery, and radios.

Thank you guys. Perhaps I'm in the wrong thread for theses questions but that explains tons. I'm having persistent bootloop issues and I thought it might be an old kernel, but since I just flashed a new rom, I now know that isn't the problem. With minimal use my phone tries to reboot with white HTC screen, then after five seconds goes black and vibrates 5 times. I have to "let it cool down" before it will boot successfully.

Randomly reboots, but then won't fully boot until I let it cool down for like 10-20 minutes. I can always power on, get white HTC screen, then dies with 5 vibrating death twitches. I can also always hold vol down and power to the hboot screen, but can't get into recovery until it's ready. I've wiped Dalvik and Cache and recovered to times when I wasn't having this issue, but nothing seems to solve it.

EDIT: This definately isn't the right thread for this prob. Sorry. I just found one where others had similar problem but not clear cut resolution.

uh oh, i had that same problem a few months ago. it started as getting warm for no reason then it would reboot. i wiped and tried different roms and kernels and it still would reboot randomly. i noticed also that it would do that when i tried programs that uses a lot of resources like gps, pandora, or even just surfing the web. so my next step was to unroot the phone and give the stock rom a chance, but of course it still did it. so i took it in and sprint sent me a refurbished one. fortunately this was before the gingerbread update, so it had froyo on it.

you might have to take it in at some point. just keep in mind that it most likely will have gingerbread installed and you cant root it yet.

Thanks for that. No worries. I can live with unrooted for a bit. Do you think this problem is due to having rooted in the first place?

Highly unlikely. Root only allows you to make software changes to your phone. This is likely a hardware problem.

no it is most likely a hardware issue. if you go to the troubleshooting sections and do a forum search for random reboots you will find a dozen threads on the topic. i thought it was a rooting issue until i unrooted it and it still did the same thing.

Update: successfully unrooted. For those searching same prob I think holding my phone in front of a fan allowed me to work on it long enough to unfreeze apps in TiB.

EDIT: phone at Sprint now completely wiped of all things root (omghstnotm) . . . except I had logged into Market where it shows I paid for SetCPU, TiB pro, etc. Hope they don't look at that the right way. They're pretty sure I got water in it somehow, which is entirely possible, but they have to open it up more completely to check the main board. Heading back in two hours to receive judgement.
