Root Roms For The Fierce 2

Hi Bigcountry907,

Thanks a lot for your effort on this phone. Please help me to restore my phone to working condition. I appreciate your help.

My 7040T ran into issue recently. It was rooted and worked well for several months. Recently I tried to clean space on the internal drive, so I used Titanium Backup to remove some apps. Now the phone boots ok, most apps runs ok.
But I could not install any apps from PlayStore, always stuck at downloading. Google chrome runs ok with web surfing, but could not download anything. Camera is ok, but Gallery always runs into 'unfortunately, Gallery has stopped'.

Factory reset did not help.

I try to sideload your 7040T.zip. But I could not install Flashify.apk to flash the recovery4.img. Is it necessary before I sideload 7040T?

Adb driver works fine when I connect the phone in Recovery mode. Adb driver is not recognized with my Windows PC after the phone boot normally. So I can not adb install any apk.

#2 If you are running windows install android sdk. IF YOU HAVENT YET.
#3 Install the driver for sideload to alcatel. IF YOU HAVENT YET.

#4 Open ADB in command window.
command window will show path c:\android\sdk\platform-tools.

#5 Reboot the phone into recovery mode.
A) To do that turn off the phone.
B) hold volume down and power at the same time.

#6 Connect the phone to the computer

#7 select update from ADB in the recovery on the phone

#7 in command window type adb devices
A) if you see sideload and some numbers you are ready to flash.
B) if you dont see the above then fix your android sdk install or reload the driver right.
B-1) Alternately if you do this in UBUNTU it is easier. NO DRIVERS NEEDED.

#8 Type
adb sideload n-clean-flash1.zip
Watch the phone screen for any errors.
If you see INSTALL COMPLETE move to the next step.
SELECT WIPE DATA FACTORY RESET IN THE RECOVERY ON THE PHONE.
SELECT UPDATE FROM ADB IN THE RECOVERY ON THE PHONE


#9 Type

#11 Type

YOU CAN NOW REBOOT THE PHONE.
GIVE IT 10 TO 15 MIN TO LOAD UP THE FIRST TIME.

ONE OF 2 THINGS WILL HAPPEN.

A) YOUR PHONE WILL BOOT UP NORMALLY IF ALL WENT OK.

B) YOUR PHONE WILL BOOT INTO THE RECOVERY IF SOMETHING WENT WRONG.

Either way its all good. If it boots to recovery we will figure out what went wrong and flash it again.

Thanks for the feedback on the drivers. Tried another Win 7 laptop. adb devices works fine in normal boot mode.

adb install flashify.apk
flashed recovery4.img
automatically boot into recovery

adb sideload 7040T.zip

on PC command window:
C:\adb>adb sideload 7040T.zip
loading: '7040T.zip'
* failed to write data 'protocol fault (couldn't read status): Invalid argument'
*

On phone:
Finding update package
Opening update package
Verify update package
E:footer is wrong
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

Please let me know what I should I do next. The good thing is that I can still boot into normal mode.

Also what is the diff between 7040T in post 86 and other files in our post #170, clean,zip, flash1/2.zip

There are many differences.
The main one being that the 7040T.zip is too large to sideload.

You have to have enough storage on the phone to hold the package you are trying to flash and enough space on the phone to flash it.

There were a few different versions of files and you need to make sure that the Recovery.img you use is for the 7040T and the most recent one.

Get the right recovery.img here.

Then sideload this test file to make sure the recovery is working as expected. It only displays a message.

SO FOR ANYONE WHO NEEDS OR WANTS TO FLASH ONE OF THE ROMS FIRST COMPLETE THE ABOVE STEPS.

If you flash the message.zip and see the message on your phones screen that means your recovery is flashed and the roms will flash correctly.

I have not completed a rom specifically for this phone yet.

SOMEONE WITH A WORKING 7040T ONE TOUCH FIERCE 2 NEEDS TO PULL A BACKUP OF THERE PHONE FOR ME TO MAKE THE ROM.

IF YOU HAVE A 7040T ONE TOUCH FIERCE 2 AND WOULD LIKE TO HELP LET ME KNOW AND I WILL HELP YOU MAKE THE BACKUPS WE NEED.

It may be possible to flash the 7040T one touch pop icon rom to this phone.

MY ORIGINAL TESTING WAS WITH AN INDIVIDUAL WHO WASN'T SURE WHAT MODEL HE HAD.

7040T ONE TOUCH POP ICON

7040T ONE TOUCH FIERCE 2

The backups I pulled from his device were for the 7040T one touch fierce 2.
However someone previously messes with that phone and it didn't work right.

I received the backup for a 7040T ONE TOUCH POP ICON and built a rom out of it.

We flashed his phone with the 7040T pop icon rom and it fixed his phone.
even though it appeared the phone was a Fierce 2.

So the question is was his phone a Fierce 2 or was it a Pop Icon.

If it was a Fierce 2 then that means the Pop Icon Rom will run fine on a Fierce 2.
If it was a Pop Icon that means the pop icon rom may not run fine on a Fierce 2.

I had 1 tester try to flash the 7040T POP ICON rom to his 7040N Fierce 2 and it caused a brick.

THIS ROM IS TESTED ON THE 7040T ONE TOUCH POP ICON AND IS GOOD.

THIS ROM NEEDS TESTED ON A 7040T ONE TOUCH FIERCE 2. IT MAY WORK BUT THERE IS A CHANCE IT WONT.

SOMEONE GET ME THE BACKUP OF 7040T ONE TOUCH FIERCE 2 PLEASE !!!!

We should make a backup of your phone before we do anything.

This is a script file to backup the phone to the sd card.

use root browser on your phone and move the file to /DATA directory of the phone.
Then use root browser to change the file permissions to READ WRITE EXECUTE for all.

Then hold down on the file until it gives you option to open it.
Select open with.
Select open as

IT SHOULD RUN AND BACKUP YOUR PHONE.

You can also do the above using ADB if you know how.
If not root browser is the easiest way.

7040T one touch fierce 2

Flashed recovery image ok.

Backup script ok.

Had issue with onandroid backup.
phone screen output:

OK if you don't have busybox installed you need to install it.

On Android is easiest to run in ADB.

Type
adb shell
su
cd data
./onandroid

Should work.

Or if you have a terminal emulator on the phone you can do the same.

Just make sure the emulator can get su access
 
I just installed busybox, and did not see any improvement.

Followed your adb shell method:

If the onandroid backup is not essential, can I just skip it?

The phone is a backup phone, I would not be mad, if it is bricked.

Check your root access.
Open king user or super su and make sure adb and busybox and root browser all have been granted root access.

Other than that we can do it with adb but you will need to copy everything off your SD card and erase it.

Then when we dump in adb we will end up with a 2 GB file of the data partition.

We need this backup to get your data partition
