Root [ROOT] 2.3.6 Update

so i go ahead and do the root with the cwm mod in this thread and flash back to stock? sorry, im new to rooting

no its alright this is actually a pretty sensible question compare to the usual crap question we get.

you dowload CWM onto your phone, then root it by flashing the zip thats provided in this thread, then use the link i gave you and download that, put it into the sd card and boot into CWM. the flash it. CWM will be removed as that zip simply removes it by overriding the custom recovery image with the stock recovery image. you can check to see if it worked by going to advance and select reboot recovery

thanks! i'll try it now

so i am up to the point where you provided the link.. if cwm is removed, will the phone remain rooted?

yes, cwm has nothing to do with the actual rooting. in this case it just allows us to flash a zip that will enable root. remember you didnt need cwm to root the 2.3.4. same thing except someone found a way that requires flashing through cwm instead of the one click root method

okay..one more thing.. how do i flash the recovery?

once the file on the sd card, just boot into cwm by holding down POWER+VOL DOWN+BACK once you are in cwm you go down to install zip from sd card, locate the file and select it.

wait for it to finish, once it is done you will still be in cwm but you can go down to advance and select reboot recovery and it will show the stock recovery once the phone boots up

Thank you so much for guiding me through this process. i really appreciate it :D

Problem...I have superuser installed and everything but when I download root checker, it says my phone does not have proper root access. I restarted the phone and it says I have it, but a few mind later, it goes back to saying I have no root access.

it doesnt matter what root checker says, it isnt always accurate. get an app that requires root permission and use it to see if you got root. or a more acccurate way to test for root is too download the terminal emulator from the play store. open it up and type in su and hit enter

Terminal says "su not found"

type it in in lowercase letters, it shouldnt say that o,O
when ive done it either gives you a $ or #. the dollar sign meaing its rooted

And also there's a binary update for superuser, but when I try to update it, it seems to be unpacking correctly and then my phone restarts by itself. I checked back and the update did not go through

You could try using a program called odin to set your phone back to stock and try the update again [ACS] THE ODIN THREAD: Return to stock

Kage the thing is she doesnt have the Metro Admire, she has Sprocket Wireless Admire. She cant even do anything with her phone, no download mode, no recovery mode. Oh and Shabby removed his post, i dont even think he has the actual links to the files anymore on the ACS thread, but I do and ive already posted them up in a thread.

Thanks KageBeast but I finally gave up trying lol I am wondering since the update they told me to use was for a Metro Pcs and I am with Sprocket Wireless..Can that cause the "soft brick" or whatever it is that happened to my phone??

The update shouldn't have messed you up like it did, there wa an update a little bir ago that wasnt meant for metro admires just thegeneric ones and many used it.and it didn't mess up their phones in this manner. So no an update even for the wrong carrier shouldn't have bricked you but this is just one of those rare phenomena where it did

Oh ok thanks :) Just trying to figure out what caused it to happen....But I have never did nothing to my phone...I have read where you can root and flash and all kind of things to make phones compatible for other carriers but I never had did anything to mine so thought maybe that was why it did what it did

I hate titu also, i use Rom Toolbox Pro, but was testing everything out that i could think of...Thanks!!! :D

Also after updating all the .apks and moving them to /system/app the old fashion way plus added my paid apps to the system folder including hd widgets, i walk away with 157mb free, of course that is boo boo compared to my beast. ;)

I only have 54.86 on system but I have over 6 GB on the card. How do you get so much on your system? I have removed all the software that metroPCS put on that I do not need and that I know will not break my system and I still am butting up against system memory. I have a little room to spare and have moved all the software that I can to the card. I know I use a lot of things, i.e. gmail, tasks, calendar, contacts, and I did install DW Contacts to get the ability to have a different ringtone for different contacts, however I did not install any additional ringtones, I only want to distinguish between the contacts when they call. I also use things like Google Talk because I do not like to change my business telephone number and personal number every time I have to change my number because of my phsyco ex, but I still have to find a way to reclaim system memory. I do not want to run out becuase of software updates.

I did not purchase the Titanium Backup so I so not have the option cleanup Dalvik cache. Does anyone know of a way around this, just don't have the money this month. If problem persists, I am planning to purchase this software next month. I do beleive in supporting good developers. If anyone knows of better software, please let me know.

Also, does anyone know of a good SDK for developement? I am looking at doing some system software dev and utils and apps.
:D
Thanks

if you have CWM installed you can always clear the dalvik cache like that. the google sdk tools are pretty good. also as for the memory problems, you could consider partitioning your sd for 1 or 2 GB. use links2sd and that partitioned part will be used for apps. some people sometimes have like 90 apps depending on the size of their partition. also if you constantly install and unistall apps, these apps still leave a few files in your system which take up space. you could manually find them with an app such as root exploerer or find another app that lets does for you

Hi guys, is there any rom? or something that allow me to use my Cricket samsung vitality in metro pcs? thanks

Rom's dont change your phone company. You would have to get it flashed over to metro would be the only way. But then again why wouldn't you just use it under cricket?
