Root Root a flashed phone

moved you to the rooting section.

not sure how the porcess works for porting to boost but i think you need s-off to do it. so if your phone has s-off then your phone is rooted. not sure if flashing a rom, how that will affect everything though. i think that you should be ok. but lets find out if you have s-off first. so power off (you might need to uncheck fastboot, settings/apps/uncheck fastboot). then press and hold power+vol down.

I am going to be watching this as this is of interest to me.
I would suspect the "flash" to boost will not interfere with root or rom you should be able to change roms unless with a rom change your mied and MDN and MIN information is affected, which I would seriously doubt.

well i know a little bit about metro and being flashed to it on the evo. i do know that some roms you will not be able to get text and data. most roms they have a script that you could flash to get them working. but i'm not sure about boost. there really is not that much info on the how to's and what to flash. i have seen some guides on xda for cricket and metro, but not boost.

edit:we do however have the boost mobile guide that can be found in the root sticky of this forum.

my evo is flashed with the s off. how do I know if i have gingerbread or froyo I'd like to root my evo

well if you have s-off, you are pretty much rooted. all you will need is a custom rom and a custom recovery. so if you go to settings/about phone/software info it should tell you what you are on. also lets check if you have a custom recovery. power off(you might need to uncheck fastboot. settings/apps/uncheck fastboot) then press and hold power+vol down.

well if you select recovery and you do not get a red exclamation mark and you get another menu, then you are rooted. all you need to do is flash a rom. but that will also depend on what carrier you are flashed to as well.

I am flashed to boost. is there an issue with changing the rom?

what rom would you recommend?
I just started testing, I am currently running decks gingerbread 1.3
its based on cm7 I believe I have been having some strange things going on with the mms but everything else perfect.

one way to get the mms problem fixed is to get apn backup from market and back up apn then open the backup and edit the file to mm.myboostmobile.com Though I think the mobile operator number may need changing too I will be checking on that.

then restore the apn through the app
