Root root and froyo???

the ally is getting froyo in febuary now my question is since i have z4root can i unroot my phone closer to febuary and wait for the OTA update to get 2.2 or will my device not be able to recieve the update anymore? and if so can i re-root with 2.2 once it does????

When the it's comes out you will be able to unroot with z4, install stock recovery, and flash stock rom. When this is completed you will be able to receive the ota. Also, I'm pretty sure that z4 will be compatible with 2.2.

Wait, I only rooted for Barnacle and AdFree, no Roms or anything. So could I just un-root and update? then re-root?
 
yea same here i havent flashed any roms yet on my phone i kinda want to wait. so does that make a differnce? will i just have to unroot then re-root again?
 
I believe if you have not removed any system apps, have not flashed a custom recovery, and are on the stock rom you will get the ota's.

I know on my wife's ally, I rooted it only and she got the VZC update, while still rooted. It broke root and I just had to reroot with z4root.
 
yea me too i got that update n it killed universal androot so i did the z4root and works great but i guess we will have to wait til febuary to see...i hope so, that would b really good, 2.2 and rooted ally :)
 
You will not have to un-root the phone to receive the 2.2 update. Once updated it will be un-rooted. Just root again with z4 and you'll be good to go. And yes z4 is compatible with 2.2 Froyo. ;)

This is false information. Every device's root process can vary. That being said, no one knows if any simple root method will work at this point because we don't have a build to test it on.

We will know when the time comes.
 
Its not false information. Z4 has worked on every device with every version of Android I've tried. I have personally rooted the Ally, droid, droid 2, omnia, and the the vortex. Once the Ally gets the 2.2 update it will virtually be a vortex without a physical keyboard. So I can almost 100% assure that the rooting process with z4 will work exactly the same with 2.1 and 2.2 on the Ally.

I mean the Ally will basically be a Vortex with a physical keyboard. Sorry about that.
 
Updated Ally to Froyo last night and today I decided to root Ally. While z4root is trying to root phone it looks to be making process and then all of a sudden goes back to home screen. Can anyone else confirm this? I still have the option of formating/clearing cache but I would like to try to avoid that.

Apparently we have to wait for a new root app or something.
 
Please delete your post above. Those how to's were deleted for a reason. Want to lose that exploit for in the future? Do you guys even think before you post?

Touche to you. That's why I made sure I threw in that almost. Lol I'm wondering if z4 will be updated. And I'm still really confused as to why so much changed between the Vortex and Ally file systems. It makes no sense.

And yes yes I do admit I was wrong. :D
 
Z4 root does not work with the version of froyo we are getting. AND PLEASE DO NOT TALK ABOUT LGMU AND EXPLOITS.....that is unless you want to go with stock the whole time.
