Root Root Call Blocker-No Go on CM7

I liked this app but found it was the culprit for my losing data connection. I contacted the dev to report the problem, and this is the response I got:

"You use an unstable, rare rom and then have the audacity to blame the app for loosing your data connection? The app has nothing to do with data. It only restarts the RADIO.

Cm is broken, and I won't be providing support for experimental roms. Flash another radio or a better rom, and stop giving my app bad reviews, it a great app. If it doesn't work, it you that's doing something wrong."

So, can anybody suggest another call blocking app?

Lol what an ass answer. I dont use a call blocker though, hadn't even realized their existence til yall asked about it working.

Yeah, I was surprised by the response.

I just noticed on CM7 in the call log if I long press a # it gives me the option of adding to the blacklist. Can anybody comment on how that works (does it work, where are the numbers stored, how long they're blocked...)? TIA

You hurt his feelings awwwww ;)

I won't be using that app :D:D:D

Yeah, im an ass, but an ass that knows what hes talking about. CMs rildaemon is broken. Thats a fact. Blaming the app is pointless until CM is fixed. So when a noob starts writing me about radios and leaves 1-star reviews, im naturally perturbed.

Well for his device at this time it is a 1 star app,and if his review says that it doesnt work on CM its helping other people that are having issues.

Is that right... how is misleading people helping them? Oh wait, im just troll baiting here arent i? In this oh so pro android forum.

I guess with android going mainstream there will be a lot more of this sort of thing to deal with.

By the way it works just fine on cm, as long as you dont keep switching the 3g radio states. Theres a mantis ticket for this - look for it, if you can.

I left a 1 star review not so much because of the app but because of your attitude (I think you have proven that by your responses here). And, if there was an option for a negative number, I would've chosen that instead. I tried the app on the .07 radio as well as the .12 radio and on both, whenever I rebooted, data connection was gone. And, the same thing was happening to several others as well. I sent you a report so you would be aware, and you sent me venom in return. If you can't deal with people, then you shouldn't be in the business of dealing with them. :D

There you go again - all the gear but no idea. Why dont you go read about the ril daemon in cm, then come back and spout some more about radios... ill be here, ready to bump away.

Thank you. I'll keep you in my prayers. Peace be with you.

I saw this thread a few days ago, started a post and thought better of it until I could better forumulate a response.

I can see both the OP's and the dev's side of this since I've been in both situations (I've both received email replies from devs that were less than cheerful and replies from users that had unwarranted issues/comments about my apps).

I'm a dev too and I've had some bad and unwarranted reviews for my apps too, but that's just part of the (Android) world we live in. I take great pains to try to respond to each email and sometimes, each comment that is posted in my app's Market comment area (although I'm sure I don't get nearly the volume of things that ftgg99 does for his app, so I can see how that would, at times, be untenable).

Anyway, I have converted / swayed a few users of my app's to change their comments and ratings soley based on the reply that I gave to them, not only on email but in the Market comments. Each one of these "challenges" is really an opportunity to better inform, advertise, and/or educate those that use my apps on how to get the most/best out of them (not always happy about it, mind you, but I would never let the sender be aware of this).

I've also spent countless hours on one of my apps that at times has had a declining user base. I actually believe this was due to the CM7 ROM that recently was released for the Droid X for which I've subsequently made improvements to try to address.

[I won't even get started on the emails that I've received from folks about my free apps that basically say "this doesn't work. fix it" -- wow....just, wow ].

Finally, I personally don't write my apps to make a living like some might, so my views come from a slightly different perspective than I'm sure ftgg99's does (which I totally understand). I've made a grand total of $88 from the donate versions of my two apps (before Google takes their 30% cut) which are identical to the free versions that available to folks.

Sorry for soapboxing...just wanted to provide a perspective from one who has seen and experienced both sides.

Cheers!
