Root root cricket zte grand x max

I'm trying to figure out how to gain full rw access to the phone. Do we not have a bootloader at all? When I hold down volume down and the power button it doesn't boot to bootloader and is no different from booting normally. Why is this? Same happens if I reboot to bootloader from any mechanism whatsoever.

Is it possible to get a bootloader from another phone and flash it here so we can finally enable rw fully?

You should understand how the dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/boot of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery works!!

You are replacing your recovery partition with a regular boot. Only the recovery partition has rw access to system and that's why it works. There is a very big risk, however. If you manage somehow to create a situation where you are unable to boot, you are done. You will not be able to boot into recovery anymore and you will have really hosed things badly.

At the very, very least make sure that you have the ZMax Recovery installer so that you can switch the recovery back. This will not save the day if you are unable to boot, but allows you to switch back and forth easily when needed.

Finally, you can boot into recovery by holding volume up and the power when initially starting the phone or by selecting Restart/Recovery if you've installed GravityBox (as I have).

Just remember - regular boot, ro access only to /system, boot from recovery, rw access to /system if you ask for it.

Be careful out there!!

Can't help but wonder if we couldn't get a copy of the bootloader from v970 and flash that on where our bootloader should be.

Anyone want to give it a try? It might be possible to boot into the bootloader (volume down plus power button) and fully unlock this guy so that we have full rw without having to lose access to recovery.

Or, perhaps some other ZTE bootloader??

Thanks softtech, definitely wise words. Yeah, I have been unable to access bootloader myself. I really do not get it...

When you used the dd command you copied the boot into the recovery partition. You can get it back by reinstalling and rerunning ZTE ZMax TWRP Recovery 2.8.6.0 from the link above.

HTH

Good suggestion about v970, may look into that when I get outta work. This phone has to get a bootloader or somehow access the one it has.

Yeah, that link looks like bs. You can find virtually the exact same info for just about every make and model of Android. No idea why they've done this.

Flashed it, didnt work, need a damn meta.inf file bad, need this bootloader unlocked, been trying to use v970, but just cant get it to work, it came through once and I left it on but super buggy...

How is it possible this phone has no bootloader, makes no sense to me. Or Does it have one and we can't access it. All my previous Androids had bootloaders. Totally confused.

darandnik, cgrimm9, softtech and myself are the ones who got root for this damn phone with alot of hard work from all of us. Where is the community willing to help us? I think this is a great phone, just need input for permanent root.

Don't you think the real credit goes to kingroot and hroark13? I do!

so I was just curious. I hold volume down and power I get into a screen that says ftm in a white box. i look on my device manager on my computer it just tells me android phone. i hold volume up and volume down and power my phone boots to a black screen. device manager finds something but I dont know what. I am not sure what that does.can the bootloader be controled by computer commands.

probably the only way we will get permanent root is through a custom rom and a new kernal. I am just starting to teach myself to write Roms, so I wouldn't be much help there. Hopefully we can get some community help.

I just read someone did a factory wipe using twrp and phone has lost his os. He lost his backup do to his sd card got formatted with the wipe. So be carefull out there store your backups on your pc before doing ay formatting using twrp

Thank you I can change my my font and I changed my boot screen just need to figure out how to change the boot picture where it's says ZTE grand xda Max plus
This is a temp method to gain R/W access. The android GUI blocks access to the system folder.

Actually you can read/write from Recovery to the system folder. I've successfully copied files to the SD Card, booted into Recovery and copied files from the SD Card to the system folder. I changed the boot animation and got rid of the boot sound and some other minor tweaks.

I changed the boot animation and boot sound with the script christopher posted using root toolbox and root explorer

I have deleted system apps (bloat), changed boot animation etc etc, yes we have access to system r/w. We want permanent root, which seems elusive so far.

cgrimm9, what is the name of the boot sound file, I deleted the whole file like a noob and have no boot sound now. Isn't it cricket.ogg or something like that?
