I just thought of something!

Your Desire is really new isn't it?

I wonder (i.e. I'm not sure at all) if the unrevoked method will work...!

I think we need Dan's help on this one or Rasta or Eddy.

Its android ver 2.2
baseband v 32.33.00.32u_5.09.05.30_2
software2.4.207.1
browser webkit 3.1
had it about 9 mths:o

baseband v 32.33.00.32u_5.09.05.30_2
I guess you mean 32.44?

Anyway no, not that new. One of the early ones in fact.

If you have access to linux or mac you could try unrevoked from that, to avoid all the faffing with drivers (it's self-contained on these platforms). Or have you tried the drivers from the unrevoked wiki? Apologies if that's what Lecter's video already shows (I've not watched it).

OP is on a branded o2 Desire on RUU 2.14.207.1 so before doing ANYTHING else I'd get that RUU as a back up

this is a standard o2 build device, its likely to be a pvt3 device with hboot 0.93 like everyone else
the root proceedure is exactly the same
this is more than likely a driverclash/usb issue than anything else

when you removed htc sense you left the drivers installed right?

i would have a go at doing the following

uninstall the drivers from start>programs
connect the device, go to device manager on the pc (on windows 7 its start>right click computer>manage>device manager)
uninstall anything relating to htc and go to android device and uninstall the adb driver
disconnect device and on device go to settings>applications>development and untick debug mode.
REBOOT COMPUTER
when computer is booted install htc sync and connect device after (without debugging turned on)
so it picks up the drivers.
once complete turn on debug mode and let it install the adb driver.

once complete download the recommended hboot/bootloader drivers CLICK
extract it to c:\
disconnect device, power down and boot to bootloader (voldown+power) connect device and when prompted point the driver to the one you just downloaded
once complete disconnect device, make sure fastboot is selected then press power to choose. connect device and again point it to the drivers you extracted
once complete boot back to the device as normal then try unrevoked again

doing the above ensure the drivers are installed in the correct location for the correct boot of the device so that you have minimal problems
more info about the unrevoked hboot drivers can be found here

Damn! :(

Why is this so hard?

Thanks will have a look when i get home cheers

Go to

Android SDK | Android Developers download;

Installer_r09-Windows.exe
(recommended)

Once its downloaded wait for it as it takes 20 seconds to do its thing, or at least it does on a netbook with 1Gb ram. If you don't have the proper drivers it needs to run it will direct you to Oracle, follow the link it gives you and download the JKD environment, the left most box of 4 "Java".

Again on my machine it takes ages, when prompted select "accept all," I think its the long way round but it WILL ensure you have the correct drivers. Go and walk the dog, build a house, bark t the moon whatever, it really does take a while, your computer has not frozen.

Once done you should have the proper drivers, you should now be able to root, if you want to test that all the drivers are in first download this and when prompted click OK. Once its running you'll know you have what you need to root....... he said confidently......:o, you can then close the program, and go rooting! You can keep it on your system for when you get really cocky and want to go S-OFF.

Many good lucks.
