Yes we do have a IRC channel for incredible users
Server: irc.andirc.net
Channel: #Incredible enjoy :)

Edit: Also didn't catch that other post about your channel on freenode. But if you'd also like to join us on our network feel free. The andirc.net is for android specifically

I went there, there was no one there, except one person. Perhaps it was the time of day.

The biggest benefit from rooting the incredible is going to be the ability to down clock the processor so our batteries won't drain so fast.

I never though of that. Generally, though, my smartphone remedy has been to buy a longer lasting battery, fwiw. I do like the speed. :)

Yeah, on rooting the droid, you could overclock the cpu from 550 to 800-1.2ghz (stable) but underclock it to 100-150 when sleeping. the battery gain was unbelievable.

I think the OP should be updated to read that we do not have root yet, but the htc desire has been rooted. Its abit misleading to new folks who just got the phone or have not been following this thread. Just a thought.

Uh, you realize that by underclocking the cpu you are just hurting yourself. The CPU downcycles to like 200 something megahertz when in standby

it's not necessarily about underclocking or undervolting. it's about changing the way the processor is used completely. look to @kmobs kernels for the Nexus

I've been wondering about this "standby" thing. How can you tell between the phone being in standby and just having the screen time out? Pressing the power button turns the screen off, but does it also put the phone into standby? Are they 2 separate things or is screen off/standby the same thing?

Haven't gotten around to cleaning up the first post yet...the title reflects like you said though.
Tomorrow I will clean up first post and what not though, thanks for reminding me.

Cheers!

No problem i know you are busy. Alot of the info is already in this thread, but its spread out over 5 pages or so. So i can see how some newer folks could get confused if they don't bother to read them all.

uh no? There is no way the cpu downcycles to 200mhz the way it eats my battery while in standby. There was a HUGE difference in battery life after I setup my profiles to underclock the droid while sleeping. even if it did do that, why would that be "hurting" anything?

uh...no? omap and snapdragon handle power differently. go download the overclock widget and put the widget on your home screen. you'll see the inc downclock to 245 at its lowest.

I don't know what kind of incredible you've got but mine stays at 998 100% of the time.

I've got an incredible that works properly. that probably explains your piss poor battery life. you may have a program constantly running in the background. my clock speed throttles according to need. it goes from 245 to 554 to 998 to 378 and some other values I can't remember right now.

Interesting. I will close everything down and then try it again

4 gigs? Wow. I use around 1.5 and i thought that was a lot.

Anyway, back on topic. I closed everything down, made my screen to stay on for ten minutes and actually saw my processor drop to 245. So i was wrong and stand corrected, this processor does cycle down

it's all good ;)

Any news on the root?? I'm gettin restless here and thinkin about downgrading to the droid lol just so I can root it

The G1 took ages to root. So did pretty much everything else, Droid was about 1 month. The only phone to be rooted this fast was I think the N1 but that was/is a popular developer phone for all the old G1 dev's so you had the best people on the job.
