Root Root, Install and Use Link2SD on your X8

Message from the dark side there is...

One silly question. Can I format SD card fully due pc and than install system due PC companion( repair phone) I've rooted phone , already have done reset to factory sett.
I've been messing with xrecovery(installing/uninstalling) and when I wanted to install again (I had busybox) it said that it can not install cause it was installed already.
I know I've uninstalled it for sure. I got confused 'cause there were several xrecovery and several ways to install it.
BTW my phone :XPERIA x8 E15i :D

Hi, I will try to answer your post...

1) it is better to format your sd card using your phone.
2) go to /system/bin and delete busybox and xrecovery.tar using Root Explorer to uninstall xRecovery (make sure you enable R/W).

If all elase fails re-install phone software using PC Companion and start again.

cheers :)

Hi,

your SD Card should have 2 partitions... first partition to store your stuff (eg. music, videos, books etc...) and second partition use by the phone to store installed apps.

If you have 2 partitions on a 2GB SD Card... consider how you would want to partition your sd card in terms of storage space for your media and storage for your phone apps. Of course a bigger SD Card would resolve this issue.

I hope this clears up the confusion.

cheers :)

i already use 8gb sd card :D is it ok for my 2nd partition to be 2gb of size? :)

Hi,

If you are using a rooted phone with the official rom 2.1.1 then i suggest you partition 4GB + 4GB.

If you are using a custom rom like GingerFast... you don't have to partition.
The rom allows you to store your apps on the sd card.

Thanks for the guide, I was wondering how to use Link2SD for a few days now, and last night I managed to follow this steps and finally got it working.

One thing I'd like to add to your guide is, if you have a 2 GB or smaller SD card, the recommended partition type may be "FAT" not "FAT32" (this way it worked fine for me, while had problems with FAT32).

Then I linked almost all apps to the card using Link2SD (actually not all the apps but the ones which are likely to be linked, i.e. games, camera apps, whatsapp). This seemed to work fine.

Thing is, later on I unmounted the SD Card, and then reboot the phone (this time with the card inside) and the apps won't work anymore. They're all "Force closing", it seems that linking them to the card and then rebooting the phone caused them to stop working. I've tried to Unlink them back to the phone storage and they're still not working.

Is anyone having same issue and why is this?
I thought Link2SD as a good option to keep free space in phone storage, but all I having is problems.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

You got to format both partitions on your SD Card to FAT32.
You cannot name the partitions. otherwise it won't work.

Hello,

I have rooted my phone and followed the instructions for partitioning card into two FAT32 partitions except I did it without SD card adapter ( with usb connected phone to pc).
I have Astro Manager app and I installed Link 2 SD v1.5.3 apk with Astro Manager.
I did everything exactly how the instructions said except i didn't use SD card adapter but I could still did everthing with phone connected to PC.

Link 2 SD doesn't work, it still says "Second partition not found."

I am not sure if the partitions must have the drive letter or should they be named like this: *:
I tried to name the first partition H: and the second partition I: but MiniTool Partition Wizard doesn't let me change the letter of the second partition so the second partition name is *:

I also tried to delete the drive letter from the first partition so they both had name *:
The app still doesn' work. It still says "Second partition not found."

Where is the problem? Please help .
I really need space on the phone! Thanks! :)

Hi,

When you partition your SD Card you cannot name the partitions.

Thanks for quick anwser Gabe :)

I deleted the drive letter from the first partition so the partitions are no named. When I see them with Mini tool Partition wizard they are both named just *: , they don't have the drive letter or the label (name), and it still doesn't work good. I wrote this in my first post.

When I start the Link 2 SD app it doesn't ask me to get Superuser access, it says "Second partition not found. Make sure you have two partitions on your SD card and both are primary."

They are both Primary, FAT32, and no name.
The first is 996 mb, and the second 886 mb.
On the Partition Wizard it says that 598.00 mb are used on the first partirion, 1.75 mb is used on the second partirion (but I didn't put anything to that second partition), is maybe something wrong with that? I really don't understand what is wrong.

Is there anything else I can try do to get it to work?

hi i have an question plzz help me

when i partitioned my sd card only one part is primary and other part is logical.soo plz tell me how to convert both the part into primary

Hi all,
I managed to install and use Link2SD app, all the installed apps (4 or 5 peces) are moved to SD card's Ext2 partition, but still I get the message that there is not enough space to install the new app . Free internap capacity is about 50Mb. What can be the problem?? Thanks for the answers in advance.

I have the same problem. Did you manage to find a solution to it?

I installed the link2sd and moved some apps to the ext2 partition. but the apps no longer show up on my phone.
and when I tried to download things from the market, it tells me that there's not enough space to install the new app. the internal space is about 50MB free.

so what's the solution to those two problems?
