How to root lg motion 4g w/o a computer
Try at your own risk

All you need
1. root_4.3.apk

Install apk
(make sure to have unknown sources checked)

Open the apk and click on the green botton "root" once it begins loading click root for a second time and you should be asked to allow superuser access, click allow.

Your phone will reboot automatically
After it boots up, you should be rooted :)

(Recommended)

After you root your phone
You probably want to get rid of those annoying Chinese symbols that pop up everytime you allow superuser access[/SIZE]

To get rid of the superuser that came with this root method

download superSU from play store and update the su binary
It should then, ask to uninstall other superuser apps that may cause conflict
Click uninstall
Success
And you should be fully rooted

I cannot stress enough on how risky it is to install apps randomly from the internet in teh first place, but ones that are supposed to root you are even worse. you have no idea what is goingon in them and can be installing malware.

Yea im aware of that... I just gave it a shot and it worked, so far my phone runs perfect and i used this root method you dont have to try it like i said. try at your own risk

Seems suspicious..... Have you checked your files for anything unusual? There is this virus called unfold panda which uses ssl to steal login credentials ;)

I cant stress enough how only idiots used 4shared. ;)

its got to be the worse site I ever seen on the internet in my life.

OMG YES! That website has been bs' ing me especially when I look for apps there;)
When I see an APK for an app I want, it installs something else like a survey to install that app....

I have checked it a few times but nothing seems out of the ordinary im not a real geek on this but thanks for the advice

I only tried it because i didnt have a computer at the time.
I really dont know about 4shared being that bad I've downloaded a few apps in the past and they all download fine for me.

I was able to get root access through an app that i found on 4shared i didnt know people here didnt like other peoples ideas

I have heard of framaroot and root master apks that seem to work fine for some people, but for others i guess it doesn't.

none of the other apk i tried worked on the lg motion only that one named root 4.3

It's fine, I've used the same app on my LG Optimus L9. Didn't think it would work on the Motion. I didn't grab it from 4shared, though :p

Thank you sr. You let them know Lol.... I gues ill stay away from 4shared from now on ill link the apk instead

This awesome that this is possible Wooooo!
Related to security i have 2 points i would like 2 share

The scripts in the files is the potential risk no matter where you get them
Apk files can be uncompressed and sorted through fairly easy
At least you can look at and understand the permissions in the manifest
The Mobile Apk tool would be perfect for dissecting this

These days Smart people are not as much destructive as thieving
Meaning there codes woukd be intended to do absolutley nothing noticebale and remain on your phone for years possibly.

And thanks to the OP for sharing this

permissions mean nothing when the app is using root. permissions are just what it asks for politely.

decompiled a apk thats been proguarded???

Now if I could just find a way to root my T-Mobile G2 running kitkat... very annoyed that the motion gets a firmware update and I can't even get root. Lol

Yeah I'm aware of that method but I really don't want to downgrade to the 4.2 bootloader running 4.4. I just want a clear cut way to root as is. Tmobile is the only g2 variant that can't root as is. The straight forward method requires access to stock recovery which Tmobile conveniently left off when the updated it to kitkat. I've tried every root method I could think of and all fail..

Ok guys sorrt if i said something stupid.
My motions are rooted but i downliaded it anyways
i am just started messing with apps and framework. I never heard of Proguard, but i didnt slow down root browser or apk tool mobiIe I would have been leary of it wanting to gain internet access. But maybe thats part of the exploit.

There is not much about smali i get. Maybe if some of it converts to java it maybe a little easier to tell what it does.

no mistake you didnt say anything stupid :). just a matter of the way permissions work is great on regular apps, but when you have an apk that requests root then it can do whatever its code wants without asking a single permission then.

heres what proguard does, basically turns the code into a huge puzzle. lol

it doesnt stop reverse engineering, but makes it a pitfa and not worth my time to deal with it. And it doesnt matter if its decompiled back to java or not, its still all obfuscated. ;)

Proguard

The ProGuard tool shrinks, optimizes, and obfuscates your code by removing unused code and renaming classes, fields, and methods with semantically obscure names. The result is a smaller sized .apk file that is more difficult to reverse engineer. Because ProGuard makes your application harder to reverse engineer, it is important that you use it when your application utilizes features that are sensitive to security like when you are Licensing Your Applications.
