Root [Root] One Click Root for Samsung Admire (SCH-R720) :: Windows/Mac/Linux :: 9/12/2011

The more info you can give will help trying to fix your phone.
Step by step how you got to this point and what programs you have tried to restore it.
Reading your first post it sounds as though you tried ROM Manager-is that correct?

First I downloaded the original drivers from Samsung.com and installed them.
then i installed drivers from this thread mirror2 from earlier posts
was not rooted although it said i was
because I thought I was I installed ROM manager from Goggle Play
I then was instructed to flash Clockwork Recoveries i did this it brought me to device choice list where admire was not an option So since "Geek Phone 1" was the only custom device name I choose it. received an error message so tried each on the list so then I figured Super User didn't install so I downloaded and installed that app from Play when it installed I then opened ROM manager it told me to flash Clockwork Recoveries a I did as before with successful flash choosing the same custom choice "Geek Phone 1". I then chose to back up current ROM the Recovery menu My Device then powered off and has yet to power on. I've since tried the Odin thread instructions as well as the booting on recovery instructions bot to no avail

That sucks.
As you can read in the thread above Rom Manager is not compatible with the Admire.
Root can gained within this thread(a few post above have the options) then CWM Recovery is installed via ODIN(this thread has the links-http://androidforums.com/admire-all...-recovery-not-compatible-rom-manager-yet.html)
Sorry the phone is bricked:hmpf:

Can someone please make a post compiling all relevant information? I have rooted 5 samsung admires using the original technique the latest being only 2 weeks ago. Its somewhat frustrating not being able to do it now without the "device not found" error

Two options using the original script or the one that is currently contained in the OP.
This is from a post on the previous page. Regardless of the
editing the "run.bat" file
the scripts work. I have rooted three Admires using the second option over the last few weeks without issue.
Here is the summary/options:D

Welcome to Android Forums jonny wad!
Not saying you have not but:

  • USB Debugging enabled
  • Drivers are extracted/unzipped and installed
  • using the USB cord for the Admire
Let me know if you get it sorted out.

Tried recovery mode download mode and still powered off please help
2sayMO,

Did you edit the run.bat file, correct the errors before loading? If not you will need to pull your sim card, where the app resides (in the /downloads directory) edit the file and run again.

Power up will try to run this again, due to errors, but code has to be fixed first.

I can not believe these code dudes left screwed up code out there to crash everyone.

Cheers!

Ok so I want to root my Metro PCS Samsung Admire. I downloaded the drivers, downloaded the Samsung Admire Root package, extracted it to my desktop, I have my phone enabled to USB debugging, my phone is connected to my PC with the original usb cable it came with, my SD Card is not mounted as a flash drive, I opened the admire root package and clicked twice on run and now my phone is just buzzing a lot but nothing else is happening...

error: unknown host service
"[*] Triggering core dump..."
[1] Segmentation fault app_process / dev
"[*] Rebooting phone. It may buzz a lot and loop on boot. Don't panic"
remount succeeded
8KB/s <26264 bytes in 3.072s>
link failed File exists
"[*] Installing Superuser.apk. If this hangs, just cancel it with Ctrl+C after a few seconds,"
"[*] and you'll be finished rooting your phone. Reboot and enjoy."
84 KB/s <196521 bytes in 2.267s>
pkg: /data/local/tmp/Superuser.apk

that's what it says but anyway how long is it supposed to buzz for? It seems like it's been doing it a really long time and nothing has happened. My phone just says Samsung on the screen and nothing else....

I'm having a bit of a problem. When I open run.bat it gets to *triggering core dump then nothing happens. Can some one tell me what I'm doing wrong?

From the posts I'm reading there seems to be several version of the code running around out there.

gbiggie, in particular, seems to be using an error free version, but most are downloading the main code, found in the original links, which has a definite error in the code, where "device" which tells the code to connect to your Samsung, it being the DEVICE, is actually misspelled "defice" so the code does not connect to your Samsung, since a bogus instruction was just given. Probably why your's froze.

This is a critical piece of code, and I am suggesting that all who post on this thread, having problems do the following:

  • Show the link you used to get the code,
  • Zip the code and add as attachement,
  • List your Computer with OS for diagnostic help (they connect differently from OS to OS ie WinXP, Vista, Win7, Linux, etc),
  • Tell if you have a sim card reader, where you can run code edits outside the phone,
Furthermore The SU code itself does not allow for access and removal of "BLOATWARE", so you need to install "System Tuner" for that as well.

Maybe these guidelines will help us, help you and get you back to running quicker.

Cheers!

@ TBNK You seem to be the only one that knows what you're talking about. HELP ME! lol What are the RIGHT links without errors. I want to get this done today...

Okay... so been reading and attempting to root MetroPCS Samsung Admire for a a couple of days. So far no luck. I am using Win7. Below are the steps I have taken:
1. Downloaded One CLick from OP.
2. Fixed defice ---> device
3. I have used Superuser from both GP and from OP
4. When I try to update binary
Checking current install path... Fail!
Failed to find currently installed su binary.
Update cannot continue
5. Installed Busybox and TB (won't work since phone is not rooted)
6. Did a factory reset to remove everything
7. What the Run.Bat results are:
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
"
[*] Triggering core dump..."

[1] Segmentation fault app_process /dev...
"
[*] Rebooting phone. It may buzz a lot and loop on boot. Don't panic."

remount succeeded
failed to copy 'su' to '/system/xbin/su': No space left on device
Unable to chmod /system/xbin/su: No such file or directory
link failed File exists
"
[*] Installing Superuser.apk. If this hangs, just cancel it with Ctrl+C after a

few seconds."
"
[*] and you'll be finished rooting your phone. Reboot and enjoy."

1102 KB/s (196521 bytes in 0.174s)
Error: Could not access the Package Manager. Is the system running?

[*] Persistence complete, enjoy your rooted phone!"

Press any key to exit the script.
Press any key to continue . . .

Any help is welcome.

Thanks in advance.
Buzzk1ll,

When you downloaded, did you make sure the code went to your SIM card? Is the SIM card full? Since there are no real directions with this you do not know that the "/downloads" directory, where the code must go and run from is on your SIM card and there must be space on it for both the downloaded app code and the final compiled code that is being generated by the run.bat process file.

If you do not have a sim card reader, that you can plug into your computer via USB, get one. The SIM being a mini sim, needs an adapter, for most SIM readers, to run. If you buy a new SIM the adapter should come with it.

MicroCenter has 16GB mini sims for $11.99 and a limited offer on these for $9.99. See at:
They also have a 32GB card available, which is max for the Samsung Admire.

MicroCenter also has the reader for $9.99.

Anyway the error:

failed to copy 'su' to '/system/xbin/su': No space left on device

is saying your memory on the system is full, which means you additionally have to install "System Tuner" and move apps and memory from you phone to the SIM card.

If you keep running into memory issues, do this: Buy the larger SIM card,
Buy the card reader, Using the reader copy your information from SIM card A (old) to card B (new), Insert new card, in "Manage Apps" open each app, one by one and perform the "Move to SD card", when available.

Not all apps in this mode can be moved, but your goal is just to move enough to get free space in memory to install SU.

Once you get SU installed then in "System Tuner" you can move all the "non essential" apps to the SD card, leaving you plenty of memory room on the phone.

Hope that helps!

Cheers!

When installing this is what i get// help?

"
[*] Triggering core dump..."
error: device nerror: device not found

"
[*] Rebooting phone. It may buzz a lot and loop on boot. Don't panic."

30 min later nothing has happend... should i worry?... is it not rooting?
Kimmm,

Did not edit and fix your run.bat file!

Till you do your phone is toast!

TBNK

SOMEONE! ANYONE! Explain to me how to do this as if you're talking to the dumbest person in the world because honestly, at this point, it seems like the only way I'll ever be able to root my phone.

waiting......................................

GBiggie,

Since you have the handle on this for Windows and I have it for Linux, and since all the loads to original code have problems, thinking this thread should be archived and 2 new threads opened on this subject 1 for the Windows users and 2 for the Linux users.

I notice you have a linke to a .exe file for the Windows folk that seems to now have the errors corrected, but Linux can not use a .exe file, so we will need a link to fixed dowload code on that side as they will still have to use the "run.bat".

I think this is needed to keep down the confusion, posts and false/errant installs.

Hope you agree!

Thanks!

TBNK

Sorry Linux users, though Droid is Linux, Samsung did not set up any drivers to let you actually interact with the phone, only with the SD Card.

TBNK

TBNK, Linux includes many drivers built as modules in the kernel. It communicates with the device very well as long as USB debugging is enabled on the phone. I've rooted several SCH-R720's in minutes running the script from terminal on Ubuntu 11.10. Hope this helps. Thank you guys for the helpful advice!

I have rooted 3 phones with no probblems. The run.bat is fine but it is still freezing at *triggering core dump. Any suggestions?
