[Root One Stop Shop]Roms, Kernels ect..

Well you can unroot your phone and let it update. Besides FH29, your phone will update two more times to FI22 and FL24. Then you could root again. A better option you can upgrade to the official Jelly Bean GC01. That has to be a wired update (done via connection to the PC) due to size. As far as loosing everything that is easy to avoid even if you do the more direct route of just flashing a full restore rooted GC01. Sync your contacts to a google account and Google play remembers apps you have purchased and you can just download them again, or get Titanium backup and backup your user apps to sd card and restore. I do recommend GC01 over any of the ICS ones (much better performance)

Ok thanks, im noob. I'll search the thread for how to unroot. No clue on flashing a full restore, can you point me to directions to GC01? I don't even know what flash means lol. Appreciate the help.

Hi
On RWilco12 website he has a GC01 kernel dated 4/1. garwynn has one dated yesterday. In the GC01 root instructions should I replace the one from Rwilco with the newest one? I updated by cable last night to GC01. I only want to achieve root at this point. I may flash a new rom later but just want to get wifi tethering to work.
I have flashed a cell and 3 tablets but the rooting for this seems a little more confusing for me. Do I have to go back to GB27 before rooting? Is the prerooted stock GC01 necessary with garwynns rooted kernel?

Or should I just use everything from the root instructions?
Thanks very much

The kernel in the prerooted ROM is the stock. flashing it just saves you time if you were planning to upgrage to GC01 and then root. If you want custom recovery (CWM) then you need to put in the source built kernel with recovery.

When you say source built kernel do you mean the "Pre rooted GC No Data" or "Pre rooted Stock Full Recovery" from the how to root instructions? So I would then need to follow all of the instructions from the root instructions and downgrade then upgrade again? Sorry for being thick headed on this. I guess I'm confused by all of the kernels and roms floating around. So I need to follow the root instructions fully then even though I'm already on GC01 by going to GB27?

I have a question..I flashes the ftw annialation rom coming from stock rooted GC01.I didnt really like the rom so I restored back to gc01.everything went ok but now I have the FTW style/color icons and task bar.it restored back to my last backup but with the FTW system UI on it..how do I get rid of it?I keep getting a system UI force close.. Did you do the One click install of GC01 or did you do a restore from a nandroid backup?

Ahhh okay what version of the of the recovery kernel were you using? Anything under 0.4.0 didn't handle the /preload partition. What you can do is make sure you have your cwm backup on your SD card (external one preferably) then do a one click install of GC01. Next flash back in the recovery kernel (must be the same version you made the backup with), then do nandroid restore. I would also suggest once you are done with that, to flash in .0.4.1 of the GC01 kernel with cwm and make a new backup (this now handles /preload too).

No source built is the kernel with CWM Not either of those ROM installs.

this is the OP for the ROM
[ROM][ODIN][TAR]SPH-D710BST GC01 (GC01 Modem/Kernel/ROM - Root/Stock)

The "no data" just means is preserves user data (do not use if down grading or coming from another AOSP ROM), and restore formats userdata

This is for GC01 kernel with revcovery
[KERNEL][JB][SOURCE][BST] GC01 + Agat's Recovery

Thanks so much Codegerm. I do have the GC01 kernel now thanks to your help. I was hoping the kernel only would not trigger the yellow triangle as Garwynn stated the entire rom won't trigger it. I can always either flash the entire rom later and get rid of it or I can get rid of it with stock if I ever need to. Thanks again

There is an easy way to get rid of the triangle with the app triangle away (on the play store).

I was running gc01 Stockified and switched over to baked black bean last night just to check it out. Everything is working great, except the phone is so much quieter. Music volume, ring tones...everything. Any ideas?

That really sucks. So far, this is better in every way compared to what I was running before, except the volume thing. I'll take the good with the bad I suppose.

Quick question which roms/kernals do you want to stay away from so I dont lose my 3G or 4G speeds, Im rooted on stock GC01 and wanting to do overclocking but dont want to lose my 4G speeds.....:D

Selfelevated mentioned baked black bean as being one if his preferred roms in his OP. Does anyone know how to get the built in wifi-tether feature to work, or another option that will work with that rom? Thank you in advance.

The built In tether on black bean works. I'm at work but when I get home I'll let you know what to do after trying to recreate the issue.

Even the WPA password works. I'll get back to you later
