Root or not

Just a quick Thank You to:

You all helped make my move to root stress free, painless and successful!
Hope to one day give back all the goodness you've given me.

So I'm running BB0.4 right now... and I've heard good things about UD8. If I want to switch do I just do my backups, then wipe it in the x-boot then use the ROM manager to install UD8?

Holy Crap.....Look what we've done!
Just yesterday I was running down at the little bar second from the bottom!

Running UD8 with ChevyNo1's LV 1.1GHz kernel
Very stable, but a bit of a battery drainer.

Yea, just backup all that is necessary to you, and before you install your new ROM, rom manager should ask you if you want to back up your current rom (if you already haven't) and wipe data and cache. check wipe data to have a clean install over the new ROM to follow.

+1 Installing from ROM Manger gives you the option to do a data wipe before install. However, last time I check UD8 is not available in ROM Manager just yet (the app is slow to update to the newest ROMS).

It's easier to download the UD8 zip file, place it in your SD card, boot into recovery, data wipe in recovery and immediately install the UD8 zip while still in recovery. Make sense?

Ultimate Droid 8 didn't rub well with my Droid either. Thats what made me go to Liquid Froyo when i got tired of BBv0.4. Plus LFY is built from the FRG22D source.

EDIT: not to say UD8 isn't built from FRG22D. Bugless Beast v0.4 isn't.
(just wanted to clear that up.)

If I had not rooted the phone I would have already smashed it, broke my contract and got an iPhone......

The Customer ROMS are solving so many problems that Google introduced in the Froyo release....

Weird! I'm running UD8 right now and my droid runs fantastic! battery lasts a good long time as well. Must just have some minor issues with some handsets because I couldn't be happier!

what app or utility is this and how do I run it. I want to see how my phone stacks up!

I'm not rooted and am at 811. These custom roms sound intriguing. May have to do a little more reading up tonight and see if I can work up the courage to root sometime soon.

Rooting & ROMming is the sweetest kindness you can show your Droid :)
Take the plunge and join the Dark Side!

Oh BTW I'm 51 days away from the anniversary of my purchase (Launch Day) and my warranty will be up then, anyway. I figure that anything that was going to break, would have broken by now. So rooting becomes less and less a concern as time goes by.

I have droid 2.2 and am so nervous to root.... I'm not needing rom, but really want wifi hotspot (I know, not really a wifi hotspot, blah, blah, blah) for my iPad. Do I need to do all steps in the links mentioned. Thanks for any advise.

It's really nothing to sweat. Just make sure that whatever method you use, you read the method all the way through, get your questions answered ahead of time so you know what to do. And if something happens that shouldn't, don't panic. The people on this forum are spectacular with helping out, and answers get answered pretty quick :)
