Root root,s-off,simunlock,superCID htc merge

Well it all depends on what carrier issued the phone my merge came from Verizon and was issued as a gsm device got a bunch of paperwork about that and from expirence it worked better than my Wifes Droid 2 while we were out of the country veizon sold the merge to be a global unit or so the box and paperwork claims I had no issue using it on my cruise of the carribean

Interesting.. as I live in the Dominican Republic. Do you recall getting 3G signal ?
Cuz it currently does work fine on EDGE / voice calls on certain carriers. I've got the US Cellular version though

Also, I've just read that VIVA's (carrier for my second simcard) EDGE service runs on the GSM 1900 band but i get no data at all. Not even the "E" logo on top. According to GSMArena, the Merge is quadband GSM so thats supposed to work ? (im talking 2G network here)

the vzw,usc,alltell,and any other branded merges have the same physical radios,it doesnt matter. the only difference is the softeware the devices are running,and the carrier whose database contains the meid/esn(so you cant use a usc or all tell merge on vzw) ;)

again,the merge is a "world" phone in that you can pop in a vzw "traveling sim" if youre leaving the country that works thru vodaphones towers for voice calls and sms. typically you can get edge data,so mms will work as well. the merge does not have the correct physical radios to get 2g or 3g on any GSM network. period.

edge should work on your second carrier sim. it may need a simple APN reprogram.
 
Hey scotty I've yet to fix the mms apn issue I'm having I checked out that 2fast4u guys site needless to say he's kinda rude to the members of that fourm so I decided against asking him for any help with my setup I'm a newbie but I really prefer not to be treated disrespectfully like 90 % of the folks whom ask for his help

Anyways intrestestingly enuff uscellular sent me an ota update? HTC gives me a warning message that's because my device maybe modified it won't update which I'm kinda glad scares me that if it does update it may mess up my functionality which I don't want

Also I'm interested knowing if I go back to veriozons version of froyo that is loose the ability to customize my theme uscell base a way different verion of the HTC downloads

Also has anyone had any issues when they are on the home window that it blackouts if and lights up the house menu back arrow and magnifying glass buttons and the keyboard light up but the screen blacks out until I hit the power switch and then have to do the down swipe thing?????? I'm at a loss on that one so mostly have to unlock the screen after I open slide cause I have otherwise it stays blackedout which is okay the oposite is true 2 which makes me tend to believe. There is something wrong with the spider contacts

And my phone came with the Vodafone sim card in it? When I was ouside I didn't use data so idk which service I had all I did was make a couple calls and texts to the other poster in the previous posts

vzws "world phones" typically come with such a sim, my inc2 came with one also. their presence is not required for cdma operation on vzw,im not sure why they include them. if you venture outside the us,the card can be activated thru vzw and used on vodaphone towers.

when i try to extract the miniadb_merge file, zergRush won't extract so now when i do the command prompt, zergRush can't be found.

not quite sure what you mean. i just downloaded it,unzipped with 7zip,and zergRush was there,along with everything else.

you are not trying to extract each file inside miniadb_merge,are you?

i don't even know what im doing anymore.. after doing this step,

"4)prepare to downgrade
-extract the miniadb_merge.zip place the extracted folder on the root of your c\ drive. it contains the exploits,the misc downgrade image,and some adb tools."

the zergRush is the only thing not in there anymore.

*i think i found the problem, my computer is blocking it because its a hacktool? should i stop my computer from blocking it or is there something i'm doing wrong??

it is no more a hacktool than the psneuter,or wpthis exploits that are also in the download,but it may be coded in such a way that your computer is blocking it. if this is the case,yes,temporarily disable things so the file can download normally.

if thats not a feasible option,i can try zipping the zip file up,so that zergrush is another layer under. that may allow your pc to download without detecting it.

SUCCESSSSSS! i stopped my computer from blocking it and greatfully, my computer is still alive(:
your directions were VERY helpful. i actually have never done anything like this before so of course i ran into a problem or two in literally every step. but thanks to you, everything is working! getting a T-Mobile sim card today for my us cellular HTC merge! i am slap happy. :D
 
When you say desenseified what part of the phones system or programn is sense that's the question I've been having

As far as how to get my custom Rom I'm gonna join up at another forum if 2fast4u will be interested in creating a custom Rom for us Verizon clients that would like to take advantage of the gingerbread enhancements without loosing our full Verizon specific apps and so we modify themes and whatnot

Also I meant slider contacts this is not a merge specific issue I've had this issue with other makes and models of slider out keypaded phones I was just wondering if anyone else has encountered this type of issue with the merge

When it comes to any electronic gadgets I'm very tech savy with hardware and software and writing programn are not my strong suit even tho I could rebuild a phone programming one in as green as a newbie could be that's why I ask so many questions on this bored Mr scotty is a very patient man with along of knowledge if your ever in jacksonville area ile buy ya a beer you been a great help to me and other members
 
all i do is go thru with titanium backup and freeze as many htc files as i can,and still have the phone work. i do few at a time,and freeze them first,then delete them after ive run the phone a couple days,and make sure the files absence doesnt affect anything.

among the things i delete are the rosier launcher,and ime keyboard. i use go launcher and a 3rd party keyboard in stead. the goal is make the roms footprint as small as possible. i prefer AOSP so i dont miss the sense launcher or goofy widgets.

if you want to try this,just make sure you make periodic backups,so if you accidentally delete somethin you shouldnt,its easy to go back to a working version and you dont need to start completly over ;)
 
I have a US Cellular Merge that will not budge with Neuter or Zerg.. I can get temp root with taco root.. but I still cannot copy files over because of S-off... any help would be greatly appreciated.

you can also get temp root with fre3vo,or in a worse case get root with htcdev. any kind of root or temp root should let you rewrite the misc image for downgrade. note that since youre on usc the gold card is an important piece of the puzzle.

i dont understand your comment "I still cannot copy files over because of S-off..."

what trouble are you having?
 
im having a problem on step 4...cant find where to extract miniadb_merge.zip. i dont see a c/. i tried to move it into the / folder in astro on my phone, but says one of the apps is a read only system file and can't move it....please help, busted my other phone and need to make this one (Verizon) work with a t-mobile sim.. thanks in advance
 
Mini-adb is extracted to the root of the c drive on your PC. All the commands are run from a command prompt on your PC with the phone plugged in.

Be aware that you will only get edge data on t mobile :(

now all i'm getting is "invalid directory" on the FIRST LINE in the FIRST STEP in the command prompt.......

sorry for the delayed reply. edge is basically 1x data,about 600 kbps. its not fast when websurfing compared to vzw 4g,but its better than nothing and is enuff to send mms,check email,and get social media updates and notifications :)

voice and sms over gsm frequencies are fine as well :) some merges seem to willingly accept a sim card better than others. we havent quite figured that out,skim back a few pages and youll see some info on that. once you get voice working,its fairly easy to add APNs to make edge data work

hopefully your sim is allready working,or works right away for you :)
