Root root,s-off,simunlock,superCID htc merge

is it possible to return to stock settings with the images that ive got? I wouldnt mind doing that until I figure out how to advance forward

glad you are back in business. sometimes the smaller carrier will need reactivated,seems a bluegrass wireless user had the same issue.

dont forget to give me a link to your system image in case you need to go back to stock :)

open mobile is using the same build number as nTelos.

kjss reports that data is working fine after the upgrade,so those nTelos folks still having issues may give the open mobile ruu a try. here are the custom and stock ruus he provided:

i will get them added to the OP later this afternoon.

if you have no luck on the custom ruu,try the stock one,followed by a "factory reset" in hboot with the stock recovery still in place.
 
No problem Scott! It was probably good for me to be frantic for a bit lol...made me think and work my way through it.

So now my question, I've done wireless tether, titanium backup...cleaned things up nicely..should I mess with a different Rom? Or leave as is?

its completely up to you. the only rom i know of is 2fasts,wich i think is based on ussc GB. dont feel you have to try out roms if youre happy with your current setup,but if you want to,just make sure you make a backup in recovery before you flash the new one. that way,you can restore things to exactly how they are if you dont like the new rom :)
 
Please excuse my ignorance but I'm new to this whole rooting thing I have a Verizon HTC merge and would like to be able to root it to update the phone and remove some of the apps that came on it I don't really understand your guide as I've never done anything like this before if you can give me a very basic run down of what files I need and what I need to achieve this goal I would be greatly apprecitive I'd like a version that's better than the froyo 2.2 that came on the phone since Verizon kinda forgot about us merge owners I bought mine thru a 3rd party Verizon dealer

my guide is as simplified as i can make it. i cannot give any more instructions on the process. id be happy to answer any specific questions that you have,but you just need to start at the beginning,go slow,do each step,and when entering the adb commands you can look at my code boxes to see what the responses are to each thing that you enter.
 
Okay now that I have 3 consecutive days off to try and accomplish this project I have a buddy whom tried to root it for me and had no such luck but after doing some research I believe he loaded the htcdev on to it which I believe is gonna make a lot harder than it would be if it had not I felt very confident about procedeing with your guide now I'm completely at a loss last thing I wanna do is brick the only phone I have at the moment considering that I'm fairly fond of it

The phone is untouched other than the htcdev program its 100% Verizon chock full of annoying apps that are annoying and a battery that dies every 6 hours if I use the phone or not so

As I'm a amatuer at rooting and cell phone cracking can I get a basic run down of what the best ruu to use id like to keep my verizon splash screen but id like keep full functionality but dump the bloat and run a better running software for the phone I'm not gun shy about command prompts and all those instructions its the issues that some of the other people encountered and I'm a lil unsure of what some of the significance of some of the terminology. And what is it about Verizon phones that a gold card is not needed and since I am running the lowest Rom the phone came with do I have to down grade it

Any advise for a newbie would be nice and appreciated

And my hats of to you guys and what leaps and strides you have made for the merge community
 
I'm my last post I was a lil vague I'm looking for a flash that will not have the verizony ness to it I hate bing! I don't want tetris trial or any of the garbage they bog this phone down I have to dump thos kindle garbage its alwsays trying to get me to update it and it can't be done its rather annoying

the boot animation is easy to swap from one rom to another,so you can make usc or ntelos GB look like a vzw rom ;) both are pretty bloat free and run smoothly,ive used them both on my vzw merge

however,if you require the use of some vzw apps(like the nfl one,or my verizon) then your best bet is to stick with vzw factory software. once rooted you can easily use titanium to freeze/delete unwanted apps including bing,etc. just download google and maps from the market.

i may modify a vzw rom as you described and offer it as an upgrade choice for folks like you :) in the mean time you can choose pretty much any of the upgrade ruus,i havent had any issue using any of them on vzw.

id really like to see full functionality out of the phone its not a bad phone im really fond of it i have a computer with xp and one with windows 7 and thats what my understanding of 2.2 to 2.3.4 is is ther a higher version that works with the merge

i know your a busy guy but can you anwser a few questions for me why verizon phones dont need a goldcard and what s-off and supercid actually mean aswell of radio what does rom mean is it read only memory?

im not asking for a huge technical explaination a brief explantion of function as to what it does and makes the phone do and what does amon recovery

im a mecanical guy i can repair take apart service or rebuild anything but when it comes to software im clueless what i do know is how to perform simple computer actions i can build one from scratch but programming a phone is like trying to speak another language im okay with dos commands ive never used linux i am aware of its existence tho lol

CID is carrier ID,i.e. what carrier uses the phone,as as such,what ruus it is allowed to run. super cid is simply a cid of 11111111,wich tells the phone it is free to flash any carriers software.

in this case,a rom is refering to the software that is flashed on the phone.

amon is a custom recovery that can make and restore backups,and flash roms,among other things.

nope,no special steps. just make sure the hboot is lockedor relockedbefore you start

Okay mr Scotty I've got the set of commands finished last night what I noticed the phone does not have the locked oow in the hboot window

yup,that is expected. when you are s-off,the phone will allow the locked hboot to be overwritten,if youve flashed something that contains a different hboot :)

Hopefully My last question I got the first set of commands done before I start the second where on the phone should I place the leaked vzw zip file?
 
I'm having issues I got thru the first set of command no issues the second set is holding me up it just don't go I've been copy and pasting your commands from the session in your original post

My 2 questions are where do I need to place the exploitable. Vzw leak zip file and can I start over from the beginging ile copy and paste results when I get home and try agian

the downgrade leak vzw ruu should be on the root of your sd card.

ok,im confused now as well. i thot from your post above about the locked disapearing from your hboot that you had allready flashed the downgrade.

1)the downgrade goes on the root of your sd card.
2)what firmware are you on? if you have not downgraded yet,then youll need to do that before any of the second set of commands. i really need more info on what youve done/not done and what errors youve had in order to help you.

i would attempt to flash the downgrade. place it on the root of your sd,rename it to PD42IMG. boot to hboot. it should find the file,and ask you to update. allow the update. now 1 of 2 things will happen. either:
1)it will flash,and when booted you can continue on with step 6
or
2)it will fail,if your emmc fixes the main version during a reboot,with a "main version older" error. if this happens,youll need to rewrite the misc image again,starting at step 5.

When I get home I try and post some more information I put the PD42IMG.zip on the root of sd card before startting the second set of commands if I. Remove the .zip portion of the file it tries to change the format of the file should I try this as mentioned earlier in this thread?

im still a little confused... what is your current software build number? are you on 1.23.605.1? or are you still on 1.49.605.1? you need to run PD42IMG and downgrade to 1.23.605.1 before you can procede with the second set of directions.

migt not be a bad idea to list your hboot info as well.

sounds like something on your PC is interefering with the phone. disable htc sync,pda net,and any other program that is capable with communicating with yout phone.

failing that,you can also try rebooting the pc and phone,switch usb ports and cables. try re-downloading miniadb_merge. if you have a diffent pc or laptop with no phone software on it,you might try that.

windows typically adds and hides the file ext automatically,so manually naming the file to "PD42IMG.zip" makes it actually named "PD42IMG.zip.zip" :eek:

the phone must see exactly PD42IMG.zip

so if your windows is set to show you file extensions,leave the .zip in place. if not,you can try it both ways. if the file isnt named right,nothing will happen.
 
I am on the 1.25.605.1 software. I will post all of the commands steps and every thing I try all the thing you mentioned when I get home tonight I have all my hboot info I'm getting some conflicting information I will post this when I get off work ile have 3 days of straight time to devote to this when I get off work at 10 2nyte
