Root root,s-off,simunlock,superCID htc merge

Is there anyway i can backup the radio & hboot from my device?
yes,but i am not yet sure that is a safe thing to recomend.

Scotty,

Got another USC Merge, used the xtcclip to s-off....... Now just need to recovery/root. What did we decide on was a Rom that could be used where it unlocked radio? I forgot..... Also can you post a link of recovery/superuser etc.. I think I can just push these in adb correct?

PS... Oh yeah I got about 3 phones to send ya to try out the Riff box thing when you get it, if you like...... (Incredible/(2) Droid X's)

Viper
amon recovery and superuser 3.0.7 are the first 2 things inthe "additional merge files" section in the OP :)

just install amon as a PD42IMG,then flash superuser in amon. no need to push the su stuff with adb, unless you just want to.

i dont know that we ever did decide with certainty,lol... it has worked for me on every ruu ive tried. my merge is vzw branded and thus was runnint 1.49.605.1 when i got it. first ruu i tried the sim card on was the nTelos 3.08.557.1

Here you go, Radio to make USC Merge read US Sim Cards......

Load it up like any other PD42IMG.zip file

Pop in your sim and switch to GMS/UTMS mode

VzW_1.06.00.0910.zip - download now for free. File sharing. Software file sharing. Free file hosting. File upload. FileFactory.com

Hey Scott,

This radio file works, even if on USC RUU, flash it and then the sim card will read. i just tested it working great. May want to add it to the OP incase anyone else looks for this.....

Viper

First off I want to say this forum has a huge wealth of information and its mind blowing how you guys figure out what you do.

I have a merge and am wanting to root, but I always notice people talking about which service provider they use. I have NextechWireless..would these guides be applicable since I have not seen that sp mentioned? I apologize for cluttering up this thread.

Hey Scotty! Really could use a lil help....I need the ntelos ruu or zip you made with stock recovery included. I clicked your link, but it's a dead end!

cool! i assume you tested it prior to flashing that radio? have you tried the stock radio again after? or tried other ruus?

is nextech a cdma carrier? if so youll need to backup your boot/system/recovery images as described early in the thread, and provide your radio number, hboot, and build number sos i can research it :)

its working fine for me,sir: http://www.androidfilehost.com/main/HTC_Merge_Developers/scotty85/PD42IMG-nTelos-3.08.557.1.zip

i just clicked the link inthe OP,it went to that link, counted down from 6,then started downloading. maybe try different browsers?

Yeah, The original RUU would not work with stock radio or any other one. The only one that works for me on the USC Merge is that one I linked to.....

Yes Nextech is a CDMA carrier. CDMA-EvDo rev.A(to be exact, not sure if it matters).

I will look over the thread and find out how to backup, im assuming on the first post? I like to think I am computer literate, but this is pretty far over my head. I have a family member who rooted his android tablet and thats one of the reasons I am wanting to root, it functions AMAZINGLY better. Anyway, I appreciate the help, Ill try to get it figured out!

Yes the custom 1 is fine, but I also saw the post where you made 1 with stock recovery included. That's the 1 I need. Please and thank you!

as per the OP,when an upgrade ruu does not exist, substite step 5 of the OP for the step 5 in post#2 ;)

yup... thats the one i linked,i promise. ;)

PD42IMG-nTelos-3.08.557.1.zip is stock

PD42IMG-nTelos-3.08.557.1-custom.zip is the custom one.

the problem with your open mobile ruu,is that it uses a unique radio,so you cant borrow bits from existing ones to make it up. if you put your system, boot, etc. images together with a different radio,it prolly will still work, but it may not(see the info on the chinese rom above-mismatching radios or hboots can be bad) and if it does work,it will prolly not be optimized.

i will need to experiment/research wether it is safe to try and dump/relfhash the radio

Hey scotty, i got hands on my friend's phone and to my surprise his phone is s-off and sim lock off... Here is his phone info. is the same info as mine but different hboot version:

the carrier is: open mobile

hboot version: 0.88.2000 (PD4210000)

software version: 3.08.557.1 CL198011 release-keys

radio version: 1.08.00.0524_3

baseband version: 12.40W.80.14U_1.08.00.0524_3

kernel version: 2.6.35.10-g2ae1509
htc-kernel@and18-2 #1

So i was wondering if i can make a backup of his phone in order to get mine s-off as well..... thanks!!!....

What size sd card would be good for making goldcard? Gotta pick one up tonight, and get started on this tomorrow.

i registered on the forums for the sole purpous of thanking you scotty85. ive been at this thing for about a week now. youre the man dood. i posted a link(and somemore groveling) to this @ 2fastroms in answer to a similar thread, im sure this will help alot of people. thanks again man, cant tell ya how much i appreciate it.

Goldcard done..step 2 done..even though I have a different carrier I need step 3 correct? Is there any one specific carrier I should choose or will this be a custom one made by you, Scott?

does anyone have a backup of the ntelos misc partition
mine got corrupted and now i have no mobile network even on stock
if someone made one for me a few pages back,i should still have it somewhere, ill keep looking.

are voice, and regular texts(sms) working? if so,you prolly just need to program an APN.

go to settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks and see if you have a setting for acess point names. if so,see if its empty

enter the information from ntelos, from this thread: [TUTORIAL][AOSP] US Cellular,C Spire, NTELOS MMS APN Settings - ALL - Mesmerize / Fascinate / Showcase - RootzWiki

if you dont have a setting, you may need a PRL update, wich you could get by dialing something(*228 with vzw) or by calling ntelos. hopefully they can walk you thru it.

you also may try the "factory data reset" option in hboot,if you still have the stock recovery on your phone. that may restore factory ntelos apns.

a little late on this answer, but small. 1gb is plenty, tho youre welcome to use a larger one if you wish.

Yes!!!! Scotty
awsome!

more good news... i found your radio, finally,in ruu for alltell ,build number 2.04.671.1. so if you backup your system, boot, and recovery images as described in post 2,i can tell you how to put them together,or just upload them somewhere for me,and i will put together a stock, and a custom ruu for you :)

also, please, please,PLEASE do me a HUUUUUUUUUGE favor. using your friends phone with the eng hboot,do the steps in post 2 to run zergrush.

instead of doing the other steps, you will use this command to dump the hboot:

dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/sdcard/hbooteng.img bs=4096

/data/local/busybox md5sum /sdcard/hbooteng.img
/data/local/busybox md5sum /dev/block/mmcblk0p18

then upload that image for me. and let me know the md5# that the last 2 commands generate.

in other words, here are the comands youll need to do,so youre not wondering wich ones:

cd c:\miniadb_merge this should change your command promt to "miniadb_merge>",indicating youre using that directory.
adb devices this should output your phones serial number, indicating its recognized

adb push zergRush /data/local/
adb shell this will change your promt to a $
chmod 755 /data/local/zergRush
/data/local/zergRush

this will cause zergRush to start, and it shoudl say "found a gingerbread!" or "found a froyo!" followed by a bunch of other funny stuff.

last thing it says will be: Killing ADB and restarting as root... enjoy!

you should then be returned to your "miniadb_merge>" prompt

adb push busybox /data/local

adb shell this should change your promt to a #

chmod 0755 /data/local/busybox

back up the ENG hboot:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/sdcard/hbooteng.img bs=4096

/data/local/busybox md5sum /sdcard/hbooteng.img
/data/local/busybox md5sum /dev/block/mmcblk0p18

*make sure numbers match. and let me know that the number is,so i can safely flash it :)

if you want to,you can just take all the images from your friends phone while youre getting the hboot, since they are the same as yours. :smokingsomb: after doing the above, just do the rest of the steps to dump the other images. :)

awsome! im glad it was helpful

is 2fastroms still around? i checked his links in the other thread a couple weeks ago and none of em went anywhere(i guess i should delete that thread!)

Goldcard done..step 2 done..even though I have a different carrier I need step 3 correct? Is there any one specific carrier I should choose or will this be a custom one made by you, Scott?

if im understanding correctly, you will need to upgrade to something. the vzw downgrade software is buggy and old,and not much fun to be on permantly.

you dont really need a custom ruu,you can just run an ruu for your carrier to upgrade. all that means is one extra step-youll have to install a recovery yourself after your upgrade ruu flashes. the s-off will stay,so youre not unrooting by running the ruu.

some of my custom ruus have rooted system images, but some are just stock, with amon-saving you the step of having to flash it afterwards. :)

did that answer your question? what carrier are you using?

First off, thanks for the quick reply

I already tried *228 it programs everything fine but still no mobile data

I figured out that the misc partiton isn't corrupted per se just my backup somehow contains the vzw misc partition

seems i accidentally backed it up again after flashing the vzw one so that backup overwrote my earlier backup

i'll work on the apn settings some more i hope that solves it.

awsome! thanks so much for uploading that. this is the first case ive heard of an eng hboot existing for merge. the eng,or engineering hboot, offers extra fastboot commands over stock, ship hboots. its good if you are a user that needs and understands these extra commands, but for most folks,it really isnt needed.

basically, all you need to do to create a stock ruu is take the boot, system, and recovery images that you made, and move them to your pc somewhere you can work with them. put them with a hboot, radio, and an android info document, and youre good to go. zip up those 5 images, the splash.nb0,and the android info document and rename it PD42IMG. you can now flash it in hboot.

to make the custom ruu,you do the same thing, but swap out the stock recovery with amon recovery, wich you can download from the original post. if you want, you can also swap out the hboot for the eng hboot you backed up.

here is a download you can use:
openmobile-radio.zip

just unzip it,add your images to it,then rezip it :)

if you dont mind, either upload your backed up images so i can make ruus also,or upload your finished ruus when youre done. i will flash them on mine, and then include them in the OP in case anyone else needs them for open mobile :)

IMAG0086.jpg

this is quite an amazing discovery and contribution you have made the the merge community. thanks so much! do you care if we share it with some others(if so,ill take the link down)?

here is a PD42IMG you can flash in hboot:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ojnnh6w7ap6xmog
PD42IMG-merge-eng-hboot.zip md5: 957c34ce63f386099f90a2b5c60d8c7d

double and triple check the md5 please, without a bootloader, your phone is useless

and the usual disclaimer: neither kjss nor myself are responisible if it melts your phone into a pile of goo, gets you fired from your job,or casues your wife to leave you ;)

i have tested it on my merge, wich is currently running alltel froyo. i will test with some other roms as well.

First off, thanks for the quick reply

I already tried *228 it programs everything fine but still no mobile data

I figured out that the misc partiton isn't corrupted per se just my backup somehow contains the vzw misc partition

seems i accidentally backed it up again after flashing the vzw one so that backup overwrote my earlier backup

i'll work on the apn settings some more i hope that solves it.

ok,i have made some progress... seems the misc image is included in both the stock and custom ruus, but it doesnt appear to flash when the ruu is run.

also the stock ruu did not include any recovery  not exactly sure how that heppened. :o

i deleted the old downloads, and am reuploading them, less some alltel images that i was afraid maybe didnt jive, and plus a stock recovery on the stock ruu.

when they finish uploading the same links should work, since the files are named the same. try redowloading the stock ntelos ruu, compare the new mds,and then flash it. let it boot and give it a few minutes to settle.

then try a factory data reset in hboot.

failing that, you can take the misc image out of the stock ruu,and use the directions in the first post to flash it(youll need to install a recovery and root first. or temp root with fre3vo as described a couple pages back, if zergRush doesnt work)

Not sure if you get pm's Scott. If not ill continue posting here lol.

sorry i cant find the images that whomever uploaded... did data work for you on the vzw downgrade?

as you can see, quite a difference. the s-off hboot also allows the use of some non oem commands, such as fastboot flash and fastboot boot

this is quite an amazing discovery and contribution you have made the the merge community. thanks so much! do you care if we share it with some others(if so,ill take the link down)?

here is a PD42IMG you can flash in hboot:
PD42IMG-merge-eng-hboot.zip
PD42IMG-merge-eng-hboot.zip md5: 957c34ce63f386099f90a2b5c60d8c7d

double and triple check the md5 please, without a bootloader, your phone is useless

and the usual disclaimer: neither kjss nor myself are responisible if it melts your phone into a pile of goo, gets you fired from your job,or casues your wife to leave you ;)

i have tested it on my merge, wich is currently running alltel froyo. i will test with some other roms as well.

of course you can share the eng hboot scotty!! That's why we are here to share and help each other!!!.....;)
