there are not commands to back up the radio,and you can use the same command to back up your stock hboot that you did the eng one,but you dont need to do that.

thats why i gave you a download :) it contains your same radio and hboot,and a splash1.nb0 and android info document you can use. the download contains images from the factory ruu,and is the same thing id use to make the custom and stock ruus.

we dont need to make it any harder than we need to. :D

as i mentioned in podst 292,you need to upgrade to something,as the vzw downgrade ruu is old and buggy.

the upgrade somethin can be any of the following:
1)a stock RUU from your particular carrier. obtained from shipped roms/lexikon or footballs folder
2)one of the custom upgrade ruus for your carrier
3)one of the custom ruus for some other carrier

since it doesnt look like #1 exists,youll need to chose 2 or 3. i have run usc and ntelos GB on my VZW merge and not had any issue. sometimes with other carriers ruus,you can run into issues with data or mms. usually these issuse can be worked out.

as for skipping step 3 entirely,i guess you could,if you dint care about having a stock ruu to fall back on if you need to.

personally,i would strongly reccomend that you do step 3,and back up all your images,even if you dont want a custom ruu,so that we can make a stock one just in case you need it. :)

last and not least,no question is stupid. dont be afraid to post in the thread if youve searched it and cant find the answers youre looking for :)

let me have your hboot and baseband numbers,as well as your build number,so that i can track down a radio and hboot for you to use. :)

Anyone had any luck with getting 3G back with Ntelos?
If not, and I ask kindly so others don't suffer....Could you update the first post with loss of 3G on Ntelos being a known issue?

are you missing 3g as well? are 1x and 2g working? voice,sms,mms? have you tried this:

also,did your 3g work on the vzw downgrade?

the process does not do anything to the phone to make it incapable of recieving 3g data... we just need to figure out how to get the programming back to make it work.

i havent heard anything back from the other guy,so we have no idea what hes done,or if its working now or not.

yup,that is what i need. :) dont forget to back up your images as described in post 2 step 3 sos i can make up a stock ruu if you need it. :)
 
ive been messing some more with this ntelos prollem. trying to manually enter the APNs,they just disapear after you save them,and i have no idea if they are staying in the phone,you cannot find them to select them after.

heres a couple things you guys can try:
1)access the APNs via the vioce dialer,as described in this thread:
[TUTORIAL][AOSP] US Cellular,C Spire, NTELOS MMS APN Settings - ALL - Mesmerize / Fascinate / Showcase - RootzWiki

carefully enter the apn info fromthe second thread: How to: nTelos APN Settings Android Blackberry HTC Desire | MMS Internet Configuration for Samsung LG Motorola Sony Ericsson

save it when youre done. it should pop up with a saved message,but no new apns appear on the list. :mad:

give it a couple minutes for data to pop up. if it doesnt,reboot your phone... see if data works.

if that doesnt work,try this:
2)you must be rooted,so install a recovery and flash superiser files if youre not.

download this apns file: apns-20120531230753.zip

download and install apn backup and restore from the market

run the app and backup your apns.

mount your phone as a disc drive to your PC. find the apn backup and restore folder on your sd card. copy/paste or drag and drop the apns file from inside the .zip(extract first if you need to) to the backup folder on your sd card

eject your phone from the pc.

run the app again. delete apns first *this is important*

restore apns,then pick the file you transfered. it should restore 6 items

give the phone a couple minutes... if no data pops up,try a reboot
 
I've downloaded this file:

VZW leak 1.23.605.1 ruu.zip

but get a invalid file error every time I try to open it to extract..I need this to downgrade correct?

Could it be a download issue on my end?

edit: Maybe I just put the zip file in there, and rename PD42IMG? I need to keep my posts confined to one lol..."heres your sign".

Correct....data was gone as soon as the vzw firmware was flashed, I have talk and text, but no 3G, period, and Ntelos refuses to swap it out, so at this point I have a dataless brick, Not mad at or blaming you. Just think until the issue is resolved there should be a warning posted.

you keep mentioning 3g. do you have 1x or 2g? you say you have text,does that include mms?

what have you done in efforts to fix?

i can only come up with ideas,as i use my merge on verizon or t mobile. i cannot duplicate your situation,and then figure out a solution,as im not on nTelos,or other carriers.

in order for us to fugure this out, you guys need to provide as much detailed feedback as you can about what you do to try and fix,and what the results are.

again,this procedure does nothing to change ESNs,MEIDs,MINs,or any other important part of the phones ablity to be on a network. i still feel the prollem is with APN settings,we just need to figure out how to change them,and to what.

i have seen the "factory data reset" in hboot fix simlar issues on other phones,its IMO well worth a shot to redownload the ruu and try it. since some of the nTelos APNs i have seen use uscc names for things,it may also be worth the effort to run the .exe for a uscc ruu,and try the factory reset option there.

as im sure youve figured out,leave the file zipped,do not extract it.

looks like you are moving right along :)
 
i actually gave up on the merge for now and just flashed a galaxy s i9000 with a cracked screen i had lying around to ntelos.

i'll try the vzw rom again and see if data works.

this is either a driver issue(did you run the .exe file to install the drivers?) or you have forgotten to enable usb debugging,or the phone may not be in charge only mode. :)

other times,changing usb ports and cables. or giving the pc a reboot
 
The .exe on the website where the goldcard is located? If so, yes. I'll keep playing with it!

looking back at the OP,i dont immediately see where i made any mention of drivers... better fix that :o im surprised its not come up until now

anyway,you will need drivers for adb to comunicate with your phone in the cmd window. this is a .exe file that should install them for you: htc drivers from revolutionary

sorry for the goof up there :o
 
Glad I wasnt losing my mind(this time). I got everything downloaded now(I believe). And..I'm at my gym and forgot my damn charger cable! I'll have a go at it when I get home today. Thanks again Scott.
 
Ok so I got to end of step 5...can I go ahead and downgrade, and then use the usc gingerbread ruu? I attempted the downgrade and it gave me "no image found" when it was checking images and then cid incorrect when it finished. Where shall I go now? I do have the images on the SD card...

Misc-stock
Recovery
System

Where is the goldcard image supposed to be from step 1? In the root of the SD card? Could that he the issue?
 
Tried redoing goldcard as I've heard that could be it...same problem.. hmmm...
 
if the phone finds pd42img,and you see the status baRS as it loads and checks it,then the CID error,then the issue is the gold card. you wont actually see the gold card image,as you are turning the sd into a gold card. it could be that you entered the number for the sd wrong in the gold card generator,or something wrong in the steps during the hex edit.

some folks have reported having to just use a different sd than what they were trying to use.

try and remake the gold card again,following the directions very carefully... youre almost there!

you also may want to go ahead and move the boot,system,recovery,and misc images to somewhere safe on your PC as youll need them to make a stock ruu :)
 
Alright scott. made the goldcard. its good...downgraded...upgraded to the usc gb file...and am currently without service lol...i do have the images ready. gotta do some reading now and figure out where to go from here
