Root root,s-off,simunlock,superCID htc merge

scotty i swear you are the smartest person I have ever talked to. I ended up changing the file and loading it through Hboot and I am back in business and I am sooooo happy listen man you have been so great and have helped me and so many others you will never be forgotten you are really doing good things for people and I am sure you have great karma. I know it sounds a little bit extreme but you are really doing this out of kindness and that is great thank you so much.

ok well i kind of understand now a little bit about what is going on with the custom ruu's. I unzipped the usc gb one and realized the radio was different then the one you just gave me so i replaced the radio with the one you gave me and now I have a working gb phone. This is a very good night

scotty now all that we need to do is get the merge to work on at&t 3g network lol

unfortunately,i dont think it ever will :(

when you look at the specs, and at atts network,it looks like the merge shares some compatible bands, but like other of VZWs older "world phones" it looks like the merge needs a CDMA2000 1xEV-DO or gsm 2100 HSPDA signal to get 3g,neither of wich are offered by atts network :(

i could be wrong, but i think you are stuck on edge(2g) unless you can figure out a way to mod the radio at a much deeper level. definately let me know if you find any evidance or info on getting 3g working

also sorry for the late reply to your question a couple posts up,i see yoive allready figured things out. thanks much for your kind workds, and just holler if you have further questions :)

I will let you konw if I get it working but if you didnt then I dont think that I have a chance. I am still very new to this android thing but I am decent with windows operating system. Hey just a stupid question. I downloaded the CM11 rom and I cant figure out how to get it on the phone. I tried to change it to PD42IMG and do it through HBoot with no luck. Then I tried to flash it through CWM zip menu and still didnt go. How exactly can I put a custom rom like that on here?

You will need to flash it thru recovery. Did you get an error while flashing,or just the rom didn't boot?

Had a user have to upgrade his recovery in order to get cm9 to flash,so if you're still on cw 4.x try updating to the newest version. There's a thread here, might ask that user where he downloaded the version he used.

Also be careful what you flash in hboot. An s off phone does no security checks and will happily let you flash bad or wrong images to important partitions, leaving you with an unusable device

HELP! - I found an old HTC Merge in my desk, it is rooted, has Gingerbread 2.3.4 and "Software number" 3.10.573.1

so everything works great except I need to get updated to Google Play store, this has the old "Market" app and it can no longer find updates to apps - it gives an error of "Not found" when you try to update an app.

so I need two things:

1. Google Play apk that will work on this phone

2. location of current Windows 7 USB drivers for this Merge so I can install apk above

thanks!

Typically the market will update itself. Sometimes it may take a couple of days. Aside from that, you could try taking the play store .apk out of a cm7 gapps package(dont attempt to install the whole package)

Not sure what you mean "usb drivers"? If you need drivers for adb/fastboot,they are linked in the first post. If you're looking for drivers for the pc to see the phone when connected as USB storage, you shouldn't need any. Simply plug the device in,and place it in disk drive mode. The first plug in,windows will install its own drivers, just like plugging in a new flash drive.

You can then transfer the .apk to the sd card. You'll have to use a file manager to install it.

why would I not use adb to install it it, and why must it reside on the sd card?

I guess I need detailed instructions on how to install

I tried using "adb install" and it installed it as a regular app, not a system app, and it did not work when I ran it, it said it closed unexpectedly

I also tried using adb & root explorer to push it into /system/app and it said "permission denied"

Adb install is one way to skin the cat. Another would be to:
-place .apk on sd card
-navigate to sd card with a file manager
-tap the .apk file
-a pop up will ask if you want to open or install. tap install(the "outside sources" box will need to be checked in settings/apps)

After its installed, you could use a root file manager to move to system/app. The phone will need to be rooted, and you'll need to change system/app to r/w (r/o will give you the read only error). Make sure you look at the look at the stock market app,and note the permissions it has(long press the .apk then chose permissions) and set the permissions of the new play store .apk to the same. Reboot the phone.

You'll also not want to have 2 market apps  I'd prolly just move the stock one to the sd card,in case you need to re-install it.

If you're still getting errors,I guess you may need to find a .apk from a sense based gb phone.

this phone was rooted via your method and files given in post #1 - how are we supposed to get the google play app?

the market app is no good

I am hoping someone reading this will anonymously send me the correct working google play apk from their HTC Merge to me at cacheoverflow@yahoo.com ;)

As I stated... The market should update itself.

Assuming the phone is s off,you can try running a full ruu, then perform a factory reset from hboot. Give the phone a few days for market to update. Install recovery and root

Alternately you could give cm7 a go... It looks to be pretty complete and functional. The gapps package should include your play store :)

The problem is that "Market" is no longer really viable in 2014 like it was in 2011 or whenever, gotta have Play Store these days to see all apps and really have a usable smartphone.

where would I get CM7 for this phone? (if that is the only way to have Play Store)

Yes,I understand the prollem you are having. Did you try running an ruu?

I powered on my merge last night and it has allready updated to play store, currently running vzw froyo firmware. The phone does not currently have superuser installed,so in the next couple days ill install it and copy the .apk, but I don't know that you'll be able to install it.

Look in this forum for the cm7 thread if you'd like to try that(tho I never said that was the only way to get the play store) :)

had a couple minutes before work,so here you go:

Vending-merge-vzw-froyo

md5 Vending-merge-vzw-froyo.zip d9e596ea4fc209564cea1fb8d8c65d61

the zip contains both the market updater and vending .apk files. i would backu and delete both of your stock files, then install the ones from the zip as i described above after placing them in system/app. make sure to double check the permissions(i would think them to be the same)

reboot the phone, and hopefully youll have the play store. if not i would run an ruu, factory reset from hboot, and give the phone a couple days to update.

thank you for the help so far - what is an "ruu" and how in the world did you get the play store on your merge?- I have never seen that happen on the merge (using your method of rooting on page 1)

i just turned the phone on. that was pretty much it

after the 3rd or 4th time i went to the market,it updated itself to the play store. :D

an "RUU" techincally,is htc's Rom Updater Utility, and is an application run on your PC that will update the phone. the term ruu has come to mean more generically, any official, signed by htc, sotware,as an ruu can also be a zip file that is installed via hboot or fastboot.

there are a couple of ruus here:
Shipped ROMs

i have a couple that are not there, wich i will upload now.

any luck installing the apps?

Sorry,I don't know anything about Samsung devices,I only mess with HTC.

You might try the Samsung forums

I will be uploading an edited merge toolkit to include both the fre3vo and zergrush binaries, along with the edited batch file and original. All I did was use the fre3vo one for my usc merge. I claim no responsibility, blah, blah. As mentioned previously, fre3vo works for those with u.s. cellular

EDIT: Here are links to files, pulled off of my laptop from various places. I believe everything else was on my desktop beside the miniadb_Merge folder, so download the things as is with filesystem intact, please. MAKE A PROPER GOLDCARD for hboot to accept the downgrade. remember, the goldcard tool spits out reversed cid.
The working goldcard site is:

OTHER INDIVIDUAL THINGS
exploitable verizon zip (I think it was the VZW leak 1.23.605.1 ruu.zip) it came with the original toolkit:

miniadb_Merge (folder was in root of my c drive):

One click downgrade.bat:

One click downgrade.bat edited with fre3vo exploit: http://www.mediafire.com/view/rs3flyrgt58d5w9/OneClickDowngradefre3vo.bat

feel free to download other separate things I know some of you only need a couple of things and not the whole zip, sorry for those who do want a zip, I know there is a lot to download. I claim no credit for any of the tools save for the little editing of the downgrade batch to use fre3vo instead of zergrush. Thanks scotty85.

After 3 days of awful bug hunting (htc likes uploading broken sources), this is the result. 3.0 kernel and rom still needs work.. GSensors, CDMA, and some other things don't work, but it's getting there.

Hmm, I just use the phone for music or internet, etc. Sorry I did not organize the resources i gave well. I tried to give some advice with my other posts. If you had a U.S. Cellular or Verizon phone my edit on the original batch file should work either way. If you do not mind wiping it again, download some of these things as you need them and go with something like the gingerbread 2.3.4 update or what i'm on - MIUIv4. If you want root, get an "up to date" su.zip, and careful with the goldcard, they are easy to get wrong. I also first was on an unlocked bootloader, but it was using a tool I forgot. htc has resources still as of a month prior to this post. Good luck on the merge. by the way, bluetooth with wiimote is working on miuiv4. if you go that route, i'd suggest a kitkat launcher off of the play store.

grrr it seems that the merge folder has disapeared from android file host.

ill see what happened to it,and get everything uploaded to a different folder if need be. in the mean time, let me know if you need anything.

my pc time is limited these days, but i havenet abandoned this thread. sorry for the inconviences... :o
