Root [ROOT] Steps to root the Huawei Mercury

I just would like to thank you guys in advance. I plan on getting this phone this week, and I plan on rooting it right away.

Any plans for custom stock roms? PG?

I don't have the phone yet i plan on getting it tomorrow but is Ubuntu 10.04 the only version that you can do this on or will 11.10 work too? Because I'm dual booting windows vista & Ubuntu 11.10 if i have to use 10.04 thats fine i have it on usb.

10.4 is the only version the root method will work with. Don't bother with 11.10.

I seem to be hitting a bit of a snag while trying to obtain root... :(

When I do the
Code:
cd merc-root
./merc-root.sh

I get this output:
Code:
System partition identified as /dev/sdb12
mount: /dev/sdb12 already mounted or /mnt/system_part busy
mount: according to mtab, /dev/sdb12 is mounted on /media/57f8f4bc-abf4-0000-675f-946fc0f9f25b_
NO app in /dev/sdb12

And now my Mercury is having issues... Troubles downloading from Market, laggy all of a sudden... :(

Sorry, can't offer any advice, I'm not even rooted yet, just wondering if you got this sorted out yet.

I rooted and installed recovery in a matter of minutes and everything went smooth for me not a problem? I don't see why everyone is having all these problems?

Just the way these things go sometimes. All it takes is a lost packet of data while downloading a file, or a glitch during flashing to cause a problem. Luck of the draw I guess.

Still haven't achieved root... I'm told it's due to the fact I'm using Linux Mint 11 rather than Ubuntu 10.04. However, I can't get a working version of Ubuntu on my computer for some reason. Tried LiveCD, LiveUSB, LiveDVD, and even VirtualBox... No such luck, my laptops hate me. :-(

Could you check your device info with this thread?

I was reading on Unleashed Pre Paids(PlayfulGod and BlastGT's site) that a very knowledgeable guy who had a Mercury, gave it to his daughter, then recent got a new one and it has a new kernel and is 2.3.6. I'm wondering if that may be why you are having problems, because I know you are knowledgeable on this stuff.

I keep getting errors trying to copy the files to my tmp directory keep getting the error that my system is read only. Anyone have any ideas??
