after bricking my old phone and then using Z4 root on its replacement. I am to say the least nervous about trying on this phone. that said what are the advantages of doing it with the mercury? and is there anything as easy and reversible as Z4 yet?

The advantages of rooting are the same on any phone, really nothing by itself, but allows you to do other things you couldn't otherwise. Nothing as simple as z4root works anymore, I think those days are over. All of the easy exploits have been closed.
