Root [ROOT] Stock Rooted Rom. No CWM required...

i get wrong zipped img when i try to use hboot to load the zip. at 1st it tries to load then all looks well ..then it does like a second scan and i get the wrong zipped img error any ideas?

You're either flashing this on the wrong phone or your download got corrupted. Try redownloading the zip file and try it again.

i have ROM version:1.10.653.2.710RD on my evo design 4g boost mobile , but when installing the zip file it get stuck on parsing the zip , i changed the version on the android text, still the same , any ideas

The files the phone has to process are over 400+ MB and will take 4+ minutes to parse. You may need to let it sit for awhile before declaring it frozen. ;)

I just switched back to boost today I had an Iphone4 And now im back in the EVO Family, and i must say this evo I then had the hardest time trying to root outta from the OG Evo & EVO 3D
Been trying to root my phone all day and finally worked !!! Thanks :):smokingsomb::D

Apache, you are turly the man. I have tried several ways....a week to root my device. You came through and it worked like a charm. Big ups to you bro!!!!!

No you can't flash hboot zip files using CWM. If you have CWM already, then you can head over to this thread to get the CWM version that installs root to your existing rom:

http://androidforums.com/evo-design-all-things-root/562206-working-cwm-root-zip.html

The hboot version is meant for new users or those already going through a data wipe (since installing this through hboot WILL wipe your personal data)

The hboot version is NOT recommended for Sprint phones (hboot on a Sprint phone will refuse to install it due to CID mismatch anyways. :P ). Unless someone can provide me with a stock rooted system.tar file from a CWM backup done from a Sprint phone, I can't make a Sprint version right now.

Also I've found that personal data is never stored in the system partition thus it is safe to grab the system.ext4.tar file from a CWM backup and not have to do a data wipe before generating a backup. ;)

2fast4u88 is working on the next version and he says he will release it with his source code, thus it can then be posted here. When he does I may post a thread linking back to his forum, or he himself could do it. We'll find out what happens once he finishes the next version. :D

Thanks for the link. I have a backup of my stock (gingerbread) phone in cwm. If I can pull anything out of it for you just let me know.

i just checked out the link that you posted, and i'm not sure we're on the same page.

i am already rooted, with custom recovery. i have been since oct, 2011. i was wondering if you had, or could whip up, a full stock rooted ics zip that i could flash. i'm currently running the boost mobile leak updated from saragon19. and it works really well. i was thinking that if i could flash an official copy from boost it might work even better. since my phone came out with gingerbread.

You can flash this to your Sprint phone but you'll need to change the CID and version string in the android-info.txt file in the PH44IMG zip so that it will install. The version string for the Sprint phone is currently 2.x (refer to an extracted RUU or cached OTA update.zip to get the current version string, you may also find it in the About Phone menu).

The CID for the Sprint phone should be SPC_001

Boost's version uses SPC_003

The rom should work, but you may need to edit the Build.prop to show the correct Carrier in the notification bar. (but that should just be cosmetic anyway). MMS may or may not work. If it doesn't you'll need to google around on how to fix it. You can also set the MMS URL in the data hidden menu. Chances are you won't have to change it since my roms won't change that property.

so i have the rom i quoted, and sense 3,6 and android 4.0.3 w/ a 1.30.0000 hb on a boost htc design and unlocked the damn bootloader (wtf that sh!ts hard to do man) and now cant get the thing rooted. Which sucks since i lost all my apps and data doing the damn bootloader unlock and still have an s-on phone which i understood would be gone oncce bootloader was unlocked. Can someone please help me out here????
Ive tried supertool3, unrevoked3/forever and someother bs but nothing works, still says not rooted and cant seem to flash cwm or flash anything (flashing is much diff compared to my lg and samgsungs).
Thanks yall

Also, i dont want to flash back to something that will compromise being able to flash other roms or kernels in the future either..... Btw, what are some custom roms available for this phone?

And please explain how exactly to flash on this thing.....
I do appreciate your time, whoever responds to this post...... And to af for such a masterpiece of info!

hey apache, thanks for the guide. everything went smooth. i was wondering how i would flash a custom rom being as i dont have cwm ? do i just go into recovery and flash normal or do i need to dl. cwm now that im rooted...thanks...

Only custom rom that can be flashed via hboot is my evil kingdom rom:

http://androidforums.com/evo-design...ilkingdom-stock-rom-de-odexed-zipaligned.html

There is a hboot version you can use. Everyone else has made CWM only versions. You will lose personal data/apps if you install the rom via hboot, so be sure to backup your apps, data, contacts, etc before you flash the rom.

However I do recommend you get CWM to flash roms as it's a bit faster and you won't go through as many data wipes.

ok thank you.. can i just install cwm from the market ? sorry, im a newbie but just wondering what is the difference of rooting the phone without cwm.. when you say no cwm required, is that a good thing ?

There is no "market" version of CWM available for this phone yet. Koush who manages "Rom Manager" is currently the best route for getting CWM through the market. But this phone is not on his supported list yet thus it can't be used. You will need to use this to get CWM for your phone:

http://androidforums.com/evo-design...-5-0-2-8-htc-design-4g-heros-aka-kingdom.html

You'll need to unlock your bootloader to install CWM or ANY other custom rom since it would in the end require that you flash something using hboot. Even if the phone has already been rooted.

However if you used the exploit method to originally root your phone and you had also used it to unlock the bootloader, you may have already unlocked it. If it says "unlocked" in the top left corner of the screen when you boot into hboot/fastboot, then you can flash CWM and other custom roms.

As for having the ability to flash this rom without CWM. It's a good thing if you have just finished unlocking the boot loader and have gone through the data wipe it requires. Then you can flash the custom rom along with CWM in one go instead of flashing CWM, rebooting again, then going into CWM to install the custom rom/root. There may be other reasons users decide not to install CWM.

It's mainly a matter of choice and how many steps you are willing to take to get the phone rooted.

ok...i really appreciate your help...i dl ed the evil kingdom and the talk app is not there, so im going to change back...my bootloader is still unlocked...should i leave it unlocked after i update or its ok to leave unlocked ? also can you lead me to where i can donate..and thanks again...

Just send me a PM if you wish donate and we can sort it out there. ;)

As for the rest of your questions, The only time you would need to relock it is if you are re-selling the phone or sending it in for repair. Though once unlocked, it's lost it's factory locked status permanently anyway. (relocking will show the "relocked" message in hboot, so HTC would still know that you unlocked it at one point) Only when doing OTA updates would you need to re-lock.

The Evil Kingdom rom has a few bloat ware apps removed. If you notice one missing, you can just download it from the Market if there is an app you want that was removed from the rom. Market apps are deodexed from the start so they will definitely work fine with a deodexed rom.
