Root [ROOT] Stock Rooted Rom. No CWM required...

i have tried to install this root. the 1.10... was to old so i changed the txt file to the 2....one. just using decimals actually inputted numbers correctly. it will load up the zip, but then when it get to parseing its just stops after a second. any help would be greatly appreciated
 
You need to unlock your bootloader otherwise it won't parse any custom PH44IMG file at all. Go to HTCdev - Unlock Bootloader and follow the instructions.

Once you get it unlocked (it is unlocked when you see "Unlocked" in the top left corner of the screen when you are in hboot) then you can flash custom roms/recoveries.
 
Yes. So long as you run "fix permissions" in CWM, then flash stock recovery back and relock the boot loader, then you can do OTA updates. It's mainly de-odexed roms and roms that had bloatware removed that will have problems doing OTA updates.
 
I'm having the same problem many previous users have. I've unlocked bootloader, copied PHGIM44.zip, it finds it, starts parsing and...freezes, been 30+ minutes now. I'm sure it shouldn't take this long should it? I added the updated version to .txt file. I am under Boost.

Can't get this to work.
 
I'm trying to return my phone to stock. I saw this the first time I was unlocking bootloader a few weeks back. But what happens is when I enter hboot, i get something along the lines of several ph44 files each followed by the messages of either "no image" or "no image or wrong image"

thats whats supposed to happen, you need to extract the .img file. from the zip. make sure its properly named as well.
 
Oh okay. I'm used to just flashing whole zip files, or restoring nandroids. Other than adding CWM and (un)locking bootloader, hboot is still something somewhat new to me. Once again, thanks Travis!
 
I'm trying to tell if it worked. I reached the parsing step, and it only lasted a matter of seconds, which was what first seemed wrong to me. After parsing, the log cleared and I was back to the hboot menu with no messages. So I rebooted, and shouldn't I expect to go through my phone setup? I didn't have any installed apps, so I couldn't check for that, but all my contacts, accounts, and texts were still there. I'm going to try again though.


Update. Tried again, same things. I'm confident I'm doing something wrong, I know its not working because I still have CWM.


Update. I got it to work! I still need to double check that CWM is gone though, but I'm sure it is. In case it helps anybody, this is where I got stumped. In a post somewhere on these forums, it was posted that if you get the "version too old" error, then (if on windows) you need to have 7zip and notepad++. It says to go into the settings>about phone>software menu on your device to find your firmware version, and to use replace the mainver value in android-info.txt with the firmware value. If you do that and still get stuck, this is where I found the right number to use. In your bootloader, you will have a radio version near the top left of your screen, use that value as your mainver value in the android-info.txt file.
 
So is there a way to OTA update without becoming UNrooted? The main reason I'm rooting is to remove bloatware (or move them to sd) so I don't have to worry about low ram.

right now I'm Stuck and unable to Rollback to GB after ICS OTA Update, and every time that try to use the RUU from Sprint does not work, so I was wondering if this way may work for Sprint.... or could you suggest me, how to get this Phone restore as Factory... I don't care about any data on it...

I am so lost here what exactly did you need to extract from the original files and what has to be changed. I got it to parse but I'm not sure what is supposed to be inside the ph44img zip file. I changed to mainver but what I'm I doing wrong.. I keep getting failed PU and it says failed to partition what am I doing wrong.
 
hey there again.After unlocking my bootloader i downloaded the necessary file so that hboot would read it but as it starts to do its thing it says "loading image" then on the next line it says "no image" or "wrong image" ive tried everything including other downloads of similarity but nothing outside of whats recommended,and then i had changed the mainver string somehow by the grace of god to 2.12.651.5 and it started to say the same thing only this time it said parsing image and stood there for like 40 mins b4 dieing after i thought my friend had put it on the charger for me(which was broken)i tried to rule out the fact that it was frozen but it just didnt want to do anything after that i pulled it put everything back together and it was working but i still cannot achieve root access im begging please help me

Do you have a better estimated time as to when i should give up hope i do not know what i am doing wrong im following step by step instructions to no prevail i know im doing something wrong though just dont know what
 
Please note that this no longer works without modifications since most users would have sense upgraded to a new OTA update which results in the phone having a stored image version number that is higher then the one the flash zip uses. Thus the "version is too old" error you are getting.

So you will need to find the phone's firmware version in the about phone settings page (most likely the radio version) and edit the android-info.txt file inside the zip file so that the version strings match.

I tried it. Copied the main version #. Still got message that main version is too old. Operating Android 4.0.3 build #1.11.653.0 CL367264.

Hi there, i have a sprint evo design and what it worked for me was to put the software version number only, in your case it will be something like 1.11.653.0 and just that, whithout the CLXXXX, try that and see if works :D
 
Apache Thunder, it seems that I have lost root on my EVO design. I tried to root again using your method but after the update to 1.11.653.0 it states that main version too old. Can you walk me through changing the mainver string in the android-info.txt file? Your help is greatly appreciated.
