Root explorer, Adfree Android, Cache Mate, setCPU, Wireless Tether, drocap2
Auto killer memory optimizer- helps the android manage its memory.
Setcpu-allows you to control your cpus frequency.
- Root Explorer (Paid)
- ROM Manager (Get the Pro, but you can get the free version)
- AdFree (MUST HAVE)
Auto Killer - Would this be helpful in avoiding the "Low Space" warning I've gotten 5+ times.
SetCPU - What excatly does this do? CPU frequency? Of course I can make educated guesses at what that would accomplish
Root Explorer - Is this something that you guys use often?
ROM Manager - I'm assuming this allows you to swap out Roms sans-PC.
AdFree - I believe I will be getting all over that ASAP:
SetCPU only allows you to underclock, not overclock
DikcoDan what settings to you have for setCPU.? I have tried it out and have taken advice from someone on this forum but it doesn't appear to make much difference. The best I have come up with on a Quadrant reading is about 1613 with Performance setting.
Any help appreciated.
uhhh... what? setCPU most certainly allows you to overclock. You just need a kernel that supports it.
so...it's the kernel that allows it...not setCPU
The kernel just "unlocks" the CPU. You still need an app to change the frequency. That's where setCPU comes in.
I think we are going at this from different angles...![]()
- Auto Killer - Would this be helpful in avoiding the "Low Space" warning I've gotten 5+ times. I've had to factory-reset each time. One of the reason I've rooted. Hoping I can take control of such annoyances this way.
- SetCPU - What excatly does this do? CPU frequency? Of course I can make educated guesses at what that would accomplish (alter the speed and potential refresh of the the processor), but what does it actually do to help performance? Not questioning, just hoping to optomize my gains from such applications. No point in installing if I don't know what to do with it.
- Root Explorer - Is this something that you guys use often? Seems like the only time I would need access to Root is when connected to my PC. Am I missing something?
- ROM Manager - I'm assuming this allows you to swap out Roms sans-PC. Does it allow you to have multiple Roms installed so that you can check them 'side-by-side'?
- AdFree - I believe I will be getting all over that ASAP.
Sounds like disk space, I've never seen that warning. Auto killer manages RAM memory not disk space.
To the guy above the post that you're reading right now, SetCPU allows you to over and underclock. Not sure where you heard otherwise. Kernels open up the capabilities but SetCPU allows you to get there. I'll also agree that I have yet to see a Kernel that helps with battery life.Over clock and under clock, from what I've read 1.19 is as fast as anyone has pushed it, but was unstable. At stable over clocks there is not much performance boost, from what I've read.
But underclocking will give your batter life a boost. Some custom kernels claim to help battery, but I haven't seen it yet.
IDK how much you tool around with your phone, but Root Explorer is a must have for anyone who tweaks their Android and messes with stuff all the time. It will allow you to mount the internal file system as R/W (Read/Write) which enables you to delete, edit, copy and paste stuff.browse the file system with root privileges on the phone.
Haven't had this issue. I always download updates from SkyRaider through ROM Manager over Wifi and it works wonderfully. Also, quick and painless way to try new ROMs without the computer and to flash Clockwork.Yes, after rooting you only need a pc to transfer new roms to the phone. ROM manager just gives an easy interface for flashing roms. select the rom then it does the rebooting and flashing and done. You can also download new roms from it. It didn't' work with my phone.
I have to just comment on this last one. For one, all the apps I use on my phone are Pro version. Yes, ads make money for app developers, look at Rovio (Angry Birds). They're having huge success with it. But just like ABP on FireFox on the home computers, when I am surfing the web I cannot stand ads. I can't even remember the last one I clicked on.Just remember some of the cool free apps depend on those ads to fund development, their payment is based on how many times they load.
You said setCPU only underclocks, and doesn't overclock. This is false. There's no angle.
setCPU doesn't allow you to overclock...the kernel is what allows it, setCPU is what controls it
if you download only setCPU, it will not overclock which is what I said in my post...how is this false?
SetCPU only allows you to underclock, not overclock
SetCPU is a CPU speed tweaking application for Android. More specifically, it allows control of certain aspects of the Linux cpufreq driver, allowing for overclocking, underclocking, or tweaking speeds and settings on many Android devices. It will work with most if not all rooted Android 1.5/1.6/2.0/2.1/2.2 builds on supported devices.
Joe - it says Font Installer requires 'Busyboot+Root+NAND unblocked Device Required'. What is NAND and how is it unblocked?
