Root Rooted user in need of assistance

File downloaded, md5 sum matches, renamed exactly as instructed, and put on sd card, put sd card in phone and turned on... It went into that screen as normal and did not say anything about an update.... Nothing new on screen compared to before.

hmm...you made sure to put that file in the top of the sd card? Not in any folder?
I don't mean to sound condescending...I mean, you are a computer programmer:)

And also, just double check the file has no extra .zip.

Those 2 things, if not done exactly, will not be recognized by the bootloader.

Now, folks have had issues with 2gig cards, but yours is 4 gig...I don't think that would be an issue.

Yes and yes. If i select BOOTLOADER from the menu (it's in fastboot by default when i turn the phone on) it comes up after a few seconds showing this:

Code:
SD Checking...
Loading.. [PC36DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading... [PC36DIAG.zip]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PC36IMG.zip]

Then changes to a screen showing

Code:
Checking [PC36IMG.zip]

then goes right back to the normal screen i was on before.... And nothing changes....

o.k....power off the device by pulling the battery.
Then boot up by holding the volume down button, and the power button at the same time.
That will bypass going directly to the fastboot screen.

I'm thinking here....I'm wondering if your device cannot see the sd card...

Thinking some more...do you have an 8GB card you could try?

It may be possible that your 4GB card may have a slight issue like the 2GB cards do...

I just whipped out my Evo and was trying to figure out if at all possible to see the sd card via bootloader and adb.
I'm not sure on what commands, if any, there are for that in my command window.......

I suspect one of 2 things....
A. The device cannot see the sd card.
B. Your sd card is having issues akin to the 2GB card issues others have when trying to do the PC36IMG file install.

We know your computer can see the card, but the device cannot?

Wondering if a full format of the card in the computer, put the file back onto the sd card, then trying again.?

I am attempting a re-download of the IMG file for the following reason...

It says [Loading PC36IMG.zip] without error... Then says [Checking PC36IMG.zip]

So my theory is that somehow, some way, SOMETHING screwed up the IMG somewhere between copying it to the SD and loading it into the phone. Bare with me, and I will let you know. Seems to be downloading much faster right now.

What OS are you running? Does it hide file extensions?

Windows XP on this machine, and for development purposes, i never hide file extensions, so that is not the issue. The file name is exactly correct. I'm waiting to see if this new download fixes the issue. Fingers crossed.... IF IT EVER DOWNLOADS!!!!

Thinking out loud here...there is another ruu in the form of an .exe file that can be run whilst the device is in fastboot and run on the computer.
But I have never personally tried it, just have seen it recommended.

It is basically the file you downloaded, but in .exe form.

It may be worth a try?

Hmm, any idea where to find it? I'm up for trying anything. I downloaded the file on a remote system, on a different network, and added it to a .torrent so i can download it on THIS computer, and THIS network, without any failure...

After you get into fastboot, plug the phone in.
The word "fastboot" should change to "fastboot-usb" in red letters.

Then run that file I linked.

The only caveat, not sure it will work with your hboot version...not sure but what do we have to lose?

It's still downloading... at 150kb/s.............. one day i will have this resolved!!!!

I hope so too my friend, but listen, I need to hit the hay...perhaps my pal Ocn will pop in here :) He's a nightowl anyway, or rather, a nightbot :p

Good luck and I'll check back tomorrow a.m. :)

Alright thank you for all your help. Goodnight my friend. I will be sure to let you know if i have any success!

Sorry just got in......so you can boot up?

What does your hboot say?
Yes i am able to boot into the phone! I can go do whatever in the market, make calls, etc!

If i hold power and volume down, i come to that same screen and it now shows this:

*** LOCKED (00W) ***
SUPERSONIC EVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-2.18.0001
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac

What is the difference? I want to root and put a much faster ROM on here... That is what I paid to have done, and this is where I ended up.

well the difference is that unlocking is the easiest way to root. however, you will not be able to use a PC36IMG file. these types of files are used to flash a different recovery, change boot animation and splashscreens, run a ruu, and update your radios. to do all that you will need to get s-off.

s-off is a little more involved.......so it will be up to you how you want to root the phone.

Ok, so easy is fine by me. It can be undone correct? What is your suggestion for a ROM that would be quick and reliable? Stock seems to be waaay to slow for me.....

I just want to get a good reliable and quick ROM installed so that I can utilize this phone to it's fullest....
