Root Rooted-will Sprint fix cracked screen still?

Lurker
let me start from the beginning-I dropped my phone---a lot. I have a cracked screen (display is still fine) and several chips, scratches on the cover and such. I was going to just buy the parts on ebay and try to fix myself but then my husband informed me the phone was insured...since I've been paying the damn insurance fee I might as well get what I'm paying for.
I rooted my phone awhile back and so I was on here today to get info to unroot it so I can take it into Sprint and then I read on some posts that Sprint now does not care if the phone is rooted...is this true? So will they fix my phone then without me having to unroot it? I would think it didn't matter since I'm not having a hardware problem--but just because it makes sense to me doesn't mean they will see it the same way.
Thanks for the help!

Yeah, if its just the screen, they wont care about rooting....
Even if you do have a hardware issue, they will run an ruu or something to unroot you to fix it..
Thier policy is more lax now.:)

Insurance don't cover it anymore. You have to pay $100. Also you will be given a refurbished phone.

Isn't that the insurance? The $100 being a sort of deductible? Guess it doesnt really matter...just curious. I know they'll give me a re-furb. But it will still be an improvement over the current state of my phone LOL...Plus the way I look at it is, I've paid the stupid insurance (which I will not do again) I might as well take advantage of it (for a $100 fee of course) and then cancel the insurance.

Going to take it in today and see what they say...fingers crossed. Thanks for the quick reply, I appreciate it!

yeah they really do not care if it is rooted. do not go out of your way though to let them know that. good luck and let us know how it went.

Yes, please do let us know what happens. Hoping for the best! Hope they don't even charge you any 100 bucks!

Some stores will fix it for free while I've heard of some charging $15-$30. I would NOT pay the $100 deductible. You can buy a replacement online for far less than that. Give it a shot at your local store, you may catch them on a good day. Here was my experience:

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/519395-evo-discontinued-2nd-best.html

Wife took her phone to the Sprint store (LA, Westwood) to see if they would fix/replace her cracked screen. She was told that they didn't carry parts anymore because the EVO4G was discontinued. I consider myself a flashaholic and can't imagine losing out on all of the knowledge in this forum if we had to "upgrade." Can anyone confirm? I'm going to try to replace her screen or if unsuccessful, buy another EVO from ebay. It got me thinking, what's the 2nd best android for forum and developer support for rooting and customization?
Update: Wife took the phone to a different Sprint store (Beverly Center). Guys there told her that if there were only a few cracks, they would replace it. Since it's a large spiderweb (1/3 of the screen) it was too "hazardous" for the tech to repair. I guess their fancy tech is worried about chipping his nail polish!

Although my subject line asked for the 2nd best, I know I'm not ready to move on from our EVOs yet. Looks like I'll be doing it myself with a screen purchased on EBAY!
Bought a screen from Amazon for $12. Couldn't find the right sized tool at the hardware store to remove the screws and didn't feel like buying online. Took the screen to a cell repair shop who replaced it for $50. Good as new. Although I really wanted to open that thing and take a peek inside, wife's Evo is back in business.
