Root Rooting before getting my SIM

Hello all. I'm currently ordering my N4 (super excited) and it should arrive here in a few days. By the end of the week (maybe next) my service with VM will end and I will be getting a sim card with T-Mobile.

My question is this. When my N4 shows up can I go ahead and unlock the bootloader and root my phone before T-mobile sets it up? Or should I wait until after they do their thing?

Thanks in advance!

You can do anything, unlock, root, different rom, what ever all t mobile will need is your imei and the sim card number that is the nice thing with gsm phones the sim and the phone are really not interdependent.

I ordered my sim a week before I ordered my nexus and surprisingly had my nexus first. It was unlocked rooted and running cm by the time my sim arrived and had no problems. Enjoy it.

Since everyone already answered I wanna suggest using skip softs toolkit for all your phone needs. The easiest method for all things root related that I've seen.

Link is in my sig. I suggest donating a dollar or two to get all the auto update feature abd a few other things. ;)

Sadly the abandon ware phandroid app doesn't display signatures. Any chance of getting the link?

I prefer the WUGS toolkit : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475

I didn't even know the Galaxy Nexus toolkit (previous post, see link) worked on the Nexus 4, but the WUGS toolkit certainly does just as it did for my Nexus 7 :-)

Im sure the Gnex toolkit doesn't work.

But the N4 one does. ;)

The Wugs was the first toolkit I tried out but I prefer the extensive options and better UI of Skip's. To each his own. ;)

But they both do the basic jobs of the initial steps of rooting.
