Root Rooting & Cyanogen

Thanks mate you're earning your crust today aint ya? :D really thanks a lot for your help. Another daft question, what happens to all my stored address book contacts, will flashing mean i have to type them all in again? tel numbers, emails, addresses etc!

Cheers!

No probs.

The instructions will also tell you how to make sure your contacts are backed up to google, check the first paragraph. :)

Get SMS Backup & Restore from the market to for taking your messages between ROMs :)

Good luck, just make sure to follow the instructions carefully and you'll be fine! :)

Hi Prez, just starting my cm7 now via rom manager it's asking if i want to wipe date and cache, wipe dalvik cache is already ticked and i've ticked to back up existing ROM, should i tick wipe data and cache also?

Yeah, you want to wipe data and cache. Just double check you have backups of everything in Titanium, it will be ok.

right here goes! this is quite nerver racking you know!!!

the blue cyano circle logo came up and kept going round and round in circles thought oh no here we go i've cocked it...but no it all seems well :-) hopefully this will sort out my wifi probs and improve battery performance!! :D:D

:D Good stuff.

From the guide I made, you can get instructions on how to restore your backed up data and on calibrating your battery. If you feel adventurous, you can restore a kernel too ;)

You had me up until restore a Kernel  eh? what's that all about? sorry for being a dimwit!

Switching to a different kernel can increase performance and battery life to some degree. I would recommend it.

It's very simple, you basically just flash another .zip and you're done. You should do a ROM backup before flashing too of course, that's always recommended.

I wrote out instructions the other day, as it happens:

All you need to do is:
- Download the LordMod kernel.zip from here.
- Place it on your sdcad, don't extract it or anything.
- Do a ROM backup
- Flash the .zip. Do not do a factory reset or a dalvik cache wipe.

(This is about the only flash where wiping the dalvik cache is a bad idea).

Sorry, I'm tired, I meant flash a kernel. It's something you CAN do, but don't HAVE to do. See how you find what you've got first and take it from there.

Hey! I thought you were taking a break? Go away! :p

The damn wifi is still crappy! Keep having to stop and start it as it's getting stuck in the 'authenticating' zone! Any ideas guys?

Did it remember the WiFi details, or did you have to input them again?

It's a long shot, but in ROM Manager, there's an option called Fix Permissions, try running that (it's know to fix a number of the little quirks that occur after a ROM flash).

No it didn't remember the details and yes I had to put them in again. No Matter now as when I switched to the miui ROM the wifi has a very strong connection and seems to hold a signal for it until I tell it not too, this of course is what I wanted all along! :D

Where do i place the kernel exactly please? and is it Miui ok to use with LordMod??

Download the MIUI kernel from here: [KERNEL][08OCT]LorDModUE V7.5|BFSv404|ALL AOSP ROMS|2.6.35.14+|DAY AFTER EDITION - xda-developers, it's down the bottom of the post.

Place on the root of your SD card and follow Xyros instructions a few posts up.

The kernel would probably have sorted out the WiFi issues, but if you're sorted with MIUI, that's a moot point. Glad you appear to finally have sorted your issues, hopefully you can enjoy the phone a bit more now. :)

Thanks when you say root, do you just mean anyhwere or is there a folder called root? (and stop laughing at my daft questions ;)
