Root ROOTING For Dummies

though i am having irritating problems syncing my facebook & Twitter with my google contacts. Also syncing my FB calander with my phone calander

Edit: on CyanogenMod6.1.1 for clarification
 
Hello I been having trouble with rooting again. I use to have my phone rooted but last week I unrooted because I was taking it for a check up to sprint. However I been trying to root again but when I download unrevoked3 it downloads fine and everything but when I try to open it, it doesn't open, it just tells me "The application Reflash quit unexpectedly" does anyone knows what's wrong?

delete your drivers reapply them, then run unrevoked.

grep RSA /dev/mtd/mtd0
i get grep not found.
...
but when i try connecting to 4g. i will establish a connection. but within 3 min or so it will disconnect.
when i connect. i get a poor signal strength. which is what i always get at home. but usually it stays connected for a long while.

dose this mean i lost my wimax?

i just got to part 5. i havent loaded a rom yet?

You wouldn't be able to connect if you lost your rsa keys. You could be in a bad coverage area, or you might need to update your profile.

Either way, grep doesn't work because you don't have busybox installed. Install that, and the command will work.

having busybox installed.
should i un install un install now? i am currently looking for a rom to use. i might be loading one up soon...

Nope, busybox comes in handy for many, many things. Most ROMs have it preinstalled, in fact. No matter what, though, stuff you have installed now has nothing to do with flashing ROMs. You have to wipe everything before flashing a ROM.

Try re-download unrevoked. You may have gotten a bad download. You say you are on a mac so all you have to do is download and then run it. No need for anything else like drivers.

Yeah that's what i figured but the problem is that when I open the unrevoked3 it just says "The application Reflash quit unexpectedly" so I don't know how to get it to work. or maybe I downloading an old version of it! this is the website I'm using: unrevoked

I downloaded it several times now, and it stil gives me the same message
 
Weird. I have a mac and have rooted two phones with no hiccups. What version mac OS are you running? Unrevoked 3.22 requires Snow Leopard.
 
just rooted my evo (3.70). awesome! thanks guys... for those looking to root their phone, its pretty simple just follow the steps...

try restarting your computer... same thing happened to me on windows 7... i ran unrovoked3 right after installing the usb driver... got that error about flash.exe stopped working... after afew tries with same result, i decided to restart the computer (l:rolleyes:ike it suggest in the instruction ahaha)... after restarting everything went ok. :D
 
Thanks Ya'll for your support. Everything is working in good order so far, after four days with an infinite loop of the white screen. Now currently rooted and tether works on 3g only, my 4g however seems to keep on scanning. I haven't tried to change my profile yet, gonna try it in a minute.

Also if the nandroid made a (wimax.img) does that file contain my precious rsa keys for the 4g connection?:confused:

So any ideas on what to do to fix this? I really want to get rid of the bloatware that Sprint keeps forcing on us.

Yeah I do have Snow Leopard on my mac and it is weird cuz I followed the same procedure that when I rooted last time but not it seems to not want to work. I'll keep trying maybe I would try it with a different computer to see what results I can get.
