Root ROOTING for DUMMIES

Matlock

Android Enthusiast
Howdy folks,

I run a Thread over on the HTC EVO Section ROOTING for DUMMIES to help everyone get into the Rooting business.

I want to get some Feedback from the Incredible users about porting the Guide for everyone here to use.

Post any information on how well the Guide is and if it is worth adding to the Incredible section! Also feel free to PM me.

I don't think it's a necessity as the guides floating around here are very simple to use. It's your time though, so if you feel it's relevant then go nuts. The "hardest" part of the unrevoked rooting process is installing the drivers and setting pointing them in the right direction. If you can't plug your phone into PC by USB and click a button you shouldn't be allowed to have root access

I agree with Wormdoes. The rooting process for the phone was fairly simple. I used to guides here and I had no issues whatsoever. Seems like most of the problems people have are because they don't fully understand what they are doing and how the process works. I'm not really sure how much more you could really dumb it down.

Amazing job on that guide, far and away the most comprehensive I've seen. Clearly you have put many hours into it. You'd be looking at a significant edit to adapt to the Inc after reading through much of the guide but having the framework there would certainly help a great deals.

The entire point in my guides I write is to help new Rooters to learn to Root - which in-turn, gains them the confidence to get more into the internal workings of their device(s). This brings about more and more excitement on their part and makes them want to learn other things such as Linux and ADB.
I've had people I've taught personally to Root, that have gone beyond what I even know.

Naivety by new users shouldn't prevent them from getting help from all of us on these forums. Simply not understanding how a process works is when we are required to step in and help them learn.

Issues appear for different users, builds, versions and hardware. Statements that if someone can't point and click or plug n play something; they shouldn't be allowed to Root, isn't how we work as members of this Forum.

I may take comments to heart, and ramble on; but this is how I work and how I keep Android coming back to the forums.

I fall into this catagory !!!! I had a bone stock BB-storm until 1/15 when I upgraded to my INC.. by the afternoon of the 16th (after speending the better part of the beginning of the month reading all I can find on INC and ROMs and rooting etc..) I rooted mine.. by the time I went to bed I flashed two different roms and rooted my wifes Inc... This week I swaped my laptop over to running LinuxMint10 also have Eclispe and SDK installed on it and my Vista system and as of today I also have "Kitchen" installed on Linux system as well and even opened up SkyRaider 3.5 to see what all is in it (via Kitchen)..

With out the information from various guides both here and other places on the net I would be sitting my my new bonestock INC not learnin anything new or fun as well as wouldn't have gotten the bug again to check out Linux (been bout 8 years since looked at linux last)...

My thanks go out to everyone that helps guide the newbies as well as to those that take the time to sit down and write up the various actual guides on how to do things step by step with great instructions !!!!!!
